Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 14, 2002 This is the rumored fall out from E3. It is all but officially announced that Microsoft will drop the price of an X Box from 299 to 199 in the US. Reports also have indicated that Sony would likely follow with a similar price cut from 299 to 199, although some people have indicated that it will not take place at E3 but possibly late in the Summer. Also, Nintendo has been quoted as stating that if either of the other two consoles matched their initial 199 launch price that they would drop the price of the Gamecube, as much as 50 dollars from 199 to 149. I think we know who is losing the Console battle, but of course Microsoft has enough money to give X Boxes away for free if they wanted to.

Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I hear Halo is coming to the pc. there went any reason I had to buy one of those at whatever price.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted May 14, 2002 DOA 3, UFC, Tony Hawk 3 are the reasons to wait for me. I'll most likey get the PS2, since I has several PSX games.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 14, 2002 GTA3, FFX, and MSG2 were enough reason for me to buy a PS2 (acronyms R us!). Resident Evil convinced my brother that a Gamecube was in order. However, I doubt that anything short of a mandate from God would get us to buy an XBox.
Guest Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I hear Halo is coming to the pc. there went any reason I had to buy one of those at whatever price. I could never get into playing games on the PC. I only buy the Blizzard games and thats it. I stick with consoles all the way. Maybe if XBox is still selling slow theyll eventually drop the price to ten dollars to make one last grab at the crown. That seems to be the only thing that could put sales higher than the GC and PS2 though.

Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 14, 2002 yep, PS2 dropped to 199 effective immediatly. they jumped the gun on the XBox announcement and the USA today article about it seemed to take the impression that XBox is going to suffer for this. Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted May 15, 2002 yep, PS2 dropped to 199 effective immediatly. they jumped the gun on the XBox announcement and the USA today article about it seemed to take the impression that XBox is going to suffer for this. in my opinion the X-box is already suffering. I work at a wal-mart and during the holidays, people were buying X-box's left and right. now we hardly sell any of them, but PS2's move really well, and a lot of customers have said they may buy one if the price is dropped
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 15, 2002 The figures that I've seen are something like 10 mil PS2s have moved. 1.8 Xboxs and 1.5 GCs. The difference is that Xbox sales have decreased and Nintendo sales have increased. That being a side effect of Nintendo having upcoming titles like: Mania, Mario, Star Fox, Metroid, Res. Evil, Zelda, and they also just signed with Square again... I'd expect to see Nintendo not cut GC prices yet to see how it all plays out. They just (today) cut the prices of their controllers to follow Sony. But they don't have to move on the system until they see what happens to sales. XBox has to follow right away. I'd expect to see Nintendo cut 50 bucks off the price when sales suffer...
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted May 15, 2002 Gamecube could stand to stay at $199 until their new internet adapters start selling in August for 34.95 (broadband and dialup) and then just include one of those in with new consoles for $199. I figure maybe at most now a $20 price cut from Nintendo is probably all that is needed. Or they could go old school and include a game (MARIO SUNSHINE?) for $199. The way I see it, Nintendo is in the Driver's seat and continuing to go forward, considering all the new games that should be announced at E3 and out by the end of this year, free 1rst party internet game play (Games from Nintendo a la MARIO KART 4) and a pretty good slice of 3rd party games as well. Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 PS2 has already dropped in price here in Canada ($299 from $399), and I noticed quite a few GC games have also dropped. Super Monkey Ball dropped from $75 to $50. Cel Damage dropped from $75 to $35. There were some others as well, I'd say about 7 titles dropped to $50 or less. Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 Well Monkey Ball as been out almost a year now. Cel Damage wasn't really that good. Game like Madden 2002 is down to about 25-30 bucks because 2003 is coming in like 2 months.

Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 super monkey ball rules. I agree. I just can't wait till there are more games so they will start dropping the prices to like 19.99. Luckily Nintendo is gonna have one hell of a summer and christmas. Mario, Mania, Metroid, Star Fox. Of course while I wait I have my Game Boy Advance and that is the best 70 bucks you can spend. I picked up Super Mario World for like 25 bucks ( which rocks), Fire Pro Wrestling for like 15, and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival for like 20. I'm gonna wait on Castlevania for the new one to come out and then get the older one super cheap.
Guest Report post Posted May 16, 2002 Well Monkey Ball as been out almost a year now. It came out in November. That's barely 7 months.
