Guest Brian Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I'm going to be doing one of these every so often so that people who aren't watching can figure out what tapes they want to get and watch instead. These week I watched the last two, heavily hyped matches of the ROH first show. Eddie Guerrero did a great job with Super Crazy. The whole story behind the match was awesome as they totally played up the "Super Crazy is not in his league" thing until the end. Ending was awesome because Eddie thought that Super Crazy was going to hit an armdrag out of the tilt-a-whirl, but caught with a head-drag and a roll-up. Eddie was heads up like that in the match, like rolling through on a missed frog splash. Eddie is awesome. Only real problem with the match is it needed more time (much too short for where they were headed), and Super Crazy's early arm-drags (which set up the end~! were a little sloppy. Somewhere between ***1/2 and **** The three-way is the best match I've seen this year. The sequences were golden, there was never too much of the monotony of this gimmick, plus there was a ton of cool three guy spots. I feel sorry for Daniels and the kicks. Anyways, oh man was this good. Never really a dull moment. Needed a few minutes to build a finish (preferabbly where Daniels gets knocked out of the ring because of what he did later), but it was still real, real good. Daniels is my hero, dick heel until the end. ****1/4 to ****3/4, MOTYC
Guest notJames Report post Posted May 14, 2002 Well, on a whim I got that god-awful Japanese Hardcore Wrestling II PPV a couple of weeks ago. It's only saving grace was the 6-woman tag team cage match, but what a doozy. A lot of the moves were kinda sloppy, but the action was non-stop, and the lady faces all bled! (I never saw that before.) Lots of swank "off the top of the cage" moves, like a dropkick from the smallest of the competitors, and a double stomp from the top of the cage to the mat that looked absolutely brutal. I still don't see how that could have been faked, and I really don't want to know. And the heels all had metal chairs that were colour-coordinated with their outfits! Yeah, I know, but it was still pretty cool.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted May 14, 2002 Well, good to know that Eddy was able to get real good stuff out of Crazy, who has never been super impressive to me. Speaking of which, I kinda like Daniels but his style seems too spot oriented to me, and I have trouble buying a three-way as a legit MOTYC since they rarely have any flow, but I guess it's possible this one could prove me wrong. You had the six-women cage match, the M Pro six man tag, and Tomokai Honma in a death match, it couldn't have been THAT bad. Well, then again, it was against John Zandig, so anything is possible. The MPro match wasn't as good as I thought, mostly because two of the three heels were wrestling injured (Togo and Gedo, I think). It just seemed too slow and disjointed at times. Maybe I just set the bar too high, seeing as how it was MPro and all. And the Honma match had some brutal looking stuff, but I guess I've just outgrown the hardcore style. Too much sloppiness and spots for spots sake. Don't even get me started on that thumbtack match...
