Audio/video out of sync

Recently I downloaded a video file but when I played it the audio and video were out on sync (basically the audio played too early). Does anyone know what's causing this problem and how I can fix it?

How out of synch was it? The video may've just been captured out of synch with the audio. It may not be your player's fault. It kinda depends.

I'd say that it was just a few seconds out of synch. If I had to estimate, I'd say about five seconds. Is there any way to fix it?

It could be a problem with your codecs , try installing FFDShow* first.

If it's a problem with the video file itself you can fix it with Avi-Mux** if it's an avi. Open the program, drag your video file into the box-->click on file--->generate data source--->enter desired delay of audio stream--->start

Thanks for the links. I greatly appreciate it. Hopefully one of these programs will fix the problem.

I've recently had trouble with another AVI that is out of sync. Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I'd just post my problem in this one.

Anyway, the file is an AVI, and ffdshow doesn't solve my problem (which it usually does). It also doesn't seem to work with Avi-Mux. Does anyone know of anything I could do or any programs I could download to solve this problem?
