Guest Report post Posted May 14, 2002 No disrespect to SW fans, as I was a huge fan when I was a little kid. I remember having all the toys and whatnot. But for some reason, I can't stand Star Wars anymore. I think this all started when the hype for Episode 1 started a few years ago. I find it more and more annoying as the days go by. Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by so many fanatics here in Toronto. Or is it because George Lucas overlooks so many plot-holes and continuity errors that he should be booking for Vince McMahon? I don't know. But am I the only one on here who isn't going to see this movie? I've never even seen Episode I. ;p
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I've hated Star Wars with a passion since I was 7 years old and I was forced to watch that junk.
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I don't like it either. For two reasons, number one is the absolute piece of trash waste for life human beings who wait in line for months at a time. People in Seattle I think started waiting January 1st. They don't deserve the air they breathe. And number two, my friends are all pretty big fans and all they keep saying is how it's a million times better than Lord of the Rings. I loved Lord of the Rings and have read the books many times and to say Star Wars is better, considering Star Wars is BASED on the Lord of the Rings. That just makes me so mad. Guest Ripper Report post Posted May 14, 2002 I just don't care. I can't say I don't like them because I haven't seen a entire one of any of them yet. I have seen parts of alot of them, I have the general ideam of the thing and know what happens in the movies...it just doesn't seem that intresting to me. Guest Report post Posted May 14, 2002 You're not alone. I always disliked the movies, and thought the entire series was massively overrated. I can't even sit through a full movie without getting extremely bored.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I'm not a fan either. I have seen each of the Star Wars movies once and didn't really like any of them, although I would call the original much more superior than the films that followed.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 15, 2002 Although I'm not a huge Star Wars hater, I will admit that the series on the whole is overrated (then again, isn't everything?). The films do get steadily better as the series moves on though, with episode one being... well, episode one (The Phantom Menace), episodes two and three probably being throw-aways, episode four (A New Hope) being standard (and fairly boring to me after multiple viewings) sci-fi/space opera fare, episode five (The Empire Strikes Back) showing signs of character development but being very slow at parts, and episode six (Return of the Jedi) being the best film of the lot, able to successfully accomodate elements of sci-fi/fantasy, character development, plot, and action. Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I like the first 3, but the prequels are stupid.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I really like the first 3, but Episode I left me unsatisfied. Yet I'm still going into Episode II with an open mind. Hopefully I will love it because otherwise I wasted $8 for a ticket when I could've rented it for $3. That's what I did with Episode I, I rented it instead of watching it on the big screen. Either way, Episode II won't come close to Spiderman.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 15, 2002 Of course, you're not. I'm sure other people hate the it or dislike it, too. "Different folks, different storks." Ep. 1 was alright, but I from what I know of Ep. II (I know everything of it) it'll be an improvement. This coming from a huge SW fan, too.
Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I am a big start wars fan but episode one sucked. During my first first viewing the in the theatre, I fell asleep. That had only happened twice to me, one on episode 1, and the other on mortal kombat 2. Anyway 1 sucked but 2 looks alot better --Rob
Guest Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I was forced to watch the three original Star Wars as a child. I thought those were tolerable, but when I rented Episode 1, I couldn't sit through the whole thing. It was too fake (there was already a thread on special fx) and Jar Jar ANNOYED THE HELL OUT OF ME! Is he coming back on this next one? I think he should've been killed off or something. So there's my two cents.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted May 15, 2002 While I don't hate Star Wars, I'm a much bigger fan of the books, which have created more interesting characters and have made the existing ones much more interesting. Still, even Terry Brooks couldn't make Jar-Jar tolerable.
Guest Black Lushus Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I actually found Return Of The Jedi a tad on the boring side at most points, Luke's battle with Darth Vader was about the only part that kept my attention, whereas Empire, of course, had me locked in the whole way...I guess I can compare Episode One to ROTJ as only the actual Jedi battles really did anything for me...although I must admit Star Wars on DVD really gives you a new perspective on it all, so here's hoping the other ones come out soon, though knowing George Lucas he won't release them on DVD until EPisode 3 is out on DVD 4 years from now... Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 15, 2002 Just think of it this way. If he waits he won't be focused on making the new movies and will be able to give more focus to the DVD release of the original 3. Which in turns gives us much better DVDs then we'd get now while he's focused on bigger projects. I think it's worth the wait to get good DVD versions of the original 3 other then get a rushed and half assed DVD release.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 15, 2002 The originial three aren't terrible. The original Star Wars is good, and the other two are ok. I don't have an interest in seeing the new movies because I already no what the final outcome will be.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I loved the original three films when I was a kid, then I went through a phase when I wasn't particularly fond of either of the films, apart from maybe the Empire Strikes Back. But now a tv channel here in Sweden has been showing the films as Espisode two is about to open. First was Episode 1, which was actually better than I expected (though, to be fair, I expected abhoring crap), though silly and terribly uneven, but I thought it was surprisingly decent. Though I haven't gotten to Return of the Jedi yet (it isn't on until Sunday), I've finally come full circle (almost) and began appreciating the films again (though I still find them to be a tad overrated). This has actually gotten me pretty pumped up about seeing Episode 2, so I'm going to the premiere tomorrow. I'm also interested in what I'll think of Return of the Jedi, because last time I watched it I trashed the film pretty badly, so I'm pretty interested in seeing what I'll think of it now. Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 15, 2002 I was never a big Star Wars guy for some reason. Most people my age grew up on that shit, but I never really got into it. I didn't see Star Wars in its entirety until 1993 when I watched it in class. I don't think I have seen the Empire Strikes Back in its entirety yet and I saw Return of the Jedi in its entirety for the first time last fall. I just saw Episode 1 in its entirety this past weekend and I was underwhelmed. I think the best thing from the whole Star Wars series was the music, but the new music seems to lack that special something the old music had. I think I might check out Episode 2 this weekend though.
Guest Report post Posted May 16, 2002 fiI'm not a die hard Star Wars fan per se, but I did enjoy the movies. Episode I I enjoyed merely because it was the beginning. Episode IV was alright with it being released in 1977, it was good for its time (although the special edition version kicks ass!) Episode V is by far the BEST of the orginal if not all of the Star Wars movies. Good storytelling, better special effects and the classic "Luke, I am your father." line that is one of pop cultures classic lines. Episode VI was okay. The beginning was hot but towards the whole Eworks scene were sort of boring. I liked the fight between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker although their fight in Empire was better and we finally got to see what Vader looks like without the mask. I liked the Star Wars movies and can't wait to see Episode II but I wouldn't call myself a die-hard Star Wars fan. I mean those people who eat, sleep, and drink Star Wars. Those who challenge people to Star Wars trivia. Those who would die happy if the entire saga was finished during their lifetime. Those who can remeber every line, from every scene, from every Star Wars. Those who talk about Star Wars all the time. I don't do that for Star Wars....I do that for wrestling. Wrestling fan first, Star Wars fan second! In Conclusion, I just can't wait until 2005 to see Episode III and I believe that one will make the most money as people who aren't even Star Wars fans just a little bit are going to see it to find out how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader and started this popular culture phenemeon. Guest Report post Posted May 16, 2002 My theory on the Star Wars movies is that in the original three, people tended to like them best in order from first to last, and in the newest three people will probably end up liking them with Episode I being last, you know reversed and stuff(huh, huh, huh) Shut up Butthead! Screw you Beavis!(*smack*)
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted May 16, 2002 I LOVED the first three movies as a little kid. I collected the trading cards, the action figures (supposedly, my ROTJ Luke Skywalker w/blue lightsaber is worth a lot...too bad I took it out of the blister pack and, y'know, *played* with it). But after seeing the shitty Phantom Menace, and reading all the material about Episode II, I really couldn't give two shits about seeing it.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted May 16, 2002 The movies are alright. Ep. 1 wasn't offensively bad, but I dont plan on watching it any time soon. The fans don't bother me, although there aren't any freaks around here.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted May 16, 2002 I'm not a big follower of Star Wars (i'm not some crazy guy waiting for two weeks for a stupid ticket), but I do have all of the Star Wars movies. A New Hope is probably the best Star Wars out. Empire Strikes back was probably the best special effects and music, and storyline at best, but had long boring parts though. Return of the Jedi: Ewoks killed it. Phantom Menance: Jar Jar...who ever thought of him, should have been shot.

I've never even seen Ep I and I can't stand Jar Jar from everything I've seen in trailers and snippets. The only amusing thing that ever came out of Jar Jar is actually contained within the 'Requiem For A Dream' DVD. In one of the "extra features" there's a scene with Marlon Wayans doing some of his 'Requiem' lines in a Jar Jar voice. It's actually really hilarious.
