Saturday 23rd April 2005

Ryan Hall, Chingford, London

Battle Of The Two Greatest Technical Wrestlers In British Wrestling

The Ryan Hall in Chingford, North-East London, has become practically the only venue in the North of London to see British wrestling on a regular basis, since the start of events there in March 2004. Now in April 2005, a total of five events have already taken place, with the sixth set to take place on Saturday 23rd April.

Past events in Chingford, London have been exciting times, with the likes of Johnny Kidd, "Wildcat" Robbie Brookside, "Wonderkid" Jonny Storm, "Misfit" Jorge Castano, Sammy Ray, "Flying" Phil Powers and plenty more, all proving the point that British wrestling is the best wrestling in the entire world.

This time round, the main event set for the show is perhaps one of the most significant bouts in RBW history, with the former British Middleweight Champion here in RBW and unarguably one of the country's top technical wrestlers, Johnny Kidd, meets one wrestler who is probably the only wrestler that Kidd can be compared with in the country, the decorated seven-time British Lightweight Champion, three-time European Lightweight Champion, former British Welterweight Champion (earlier version of the current one) and above all, the former World Lightweight Champion, London's very own Steve Grey.

The two are set to take place in what is likely to go down as being one of the top bouts to ever grace the RBW ring ever.

Also confirmed for the event is the international star, the UK Kid, who is one of the select few wrestlers who has managed to have a successful career both in Great Britain as well as abroad. The UK Kid began his career in the UK, turning pro at 16. At the age of just 18, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he trained and graduated at the wrestling training school of famous American wrestler, WWE superstar, Shawn Michaels.

For the following years, the UK Kid wrestled extensively for over seventeen promotions in the USA, whilst sometimes returning to the UK to compete over here for various tours. At the age of 20, the UK Kid became a trainer himself in America, and around the same time, worked alongside some of the biggest names in American independent wrestling.

"Flying" Phil Powers vs Riccardo Young

Having just defeated Andy Boy Simmonz in Exeter, Devon, the always-controversial Phil Powers returns to Chingford for the first time since he aided "The Gift" Ross Jordan to defeat Sammy Ray for the British Welterweight Championship back in July last year.

Powers is looking to climb the ladder of success in RBW, with only one loss against him this far.

His opponent, Riccardo Young of Project Future, is undoubtedly considered an underdog in this, with Young taking on his most experienced opponent to date, since his recent contests with "Misfit" Jorge Castano. The Project Future tag team are making their mark on the British wrestling scene, and a win for Young would do wonders for the team's competitive reputation.

Professor Ikeda vs Bobby Hostile

The masked mystery wrestler, Professor Ikeda is due to make his second RBW appearance, since making short work of Jules Redman in Exeter, Devon recently. Ikeda has recently been competing around the country, and has been revealed recently to be the next big masked star, guided by Lloyd Ryan, former manager of the legendary Kendo Nagasaki.

Similar to his Project Future tag team partner Riccardo Young, Bobby Hostile has a tough challenge on his hands, and with only quickness and agility on his side, it will be interesting to see if he can overcome Ikeda's slow and methodical style of wrestling.

UK Kid vs Sammy Ray

Also on the bill is a match moved from our recent event in Exeter, Devon, with the UK Kid and Sammy Ray finally clashing in the ring.

The UK Kid is one of the select few wrestlers who has managed to have a successful career both in Great Britain as well as abroad.

The opponent for the UK Kid is none other than Sammy Ray, making his first appearance in Chingford since last July, where he was defeated for the British Welterweight Championship in unforgettable circumstances, caused by "Flying" Phil Powers.

The British Heavyweight Championship Tournament continues this month, with the tournament narrowing down, closer to the point where a new Champion is crowned.

One change to the tournament is that "The Gift" Ross Jordan's place in the British Heavyweight Championship Tournament has been cancelled due to his recent departure after losing the British Welterweight Championship in February. 1 - Johnny Kidd (advanced to semi-finals).

2 - J.C Thunder (advanced to quarter-finals).
