Favorite Old Man Flair Moment . . .

Recommended Posts

It's well documented since 1998ish or so (year can be argued), Flair has pretty much played a senile has-been who held World Championships seemingly eons ago. The kids watching today know him as the guy who spazzes out at a moment's notice and goes "Woooooo" a lot. While this makes most wrestling purists sick to their stomachs, Lord knows many others as well as myself have gotten a ton load of entertainment value out of his shtick. So, feel free to post your favorite Old Man Flair moments. Elbow dropping a beer can, handcuffing himself to the top rope, dancing at the mental hospital, they're all welcome here.

I'll get the ball rolling w/ a rant he did during a Hugh Morris w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Van Hammer hardcore match from Nitro in the summer of 1999. It can also be seen on BATB 1999 in the Steiner/Hammer build . . .

(Morrus is about to moonsault Hammer through a table while Hart holds him down . . . enter Flair marching down to the ring)

Flair: Whhoooaaaaaaa . . . Whoooaaaaaaa . . . Jimmy! Jimmy Hart!! Jimmy Hart!!! Stop the show! (turns to camera) What are you lookin at? (turns to fan) You keep your mouth shut toothless. (attention back to ring) There is to NEVER be another hardcore match in a WCW ring ever again! (Morrus gives Hammer a cheapshot) Hey, you knock that off!

Morrus: Flair! For 4 years, you never cared about me in the Dungeon of Doom. The First Family is comin' on strong . . .

Flair: WHO YOU TALKIN' TO?!?

Morrus: You may be the president, but get the hell out of my match!

Flair: NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!! No more hardcore!

Morrus: It's MY MATCH! (Meanwhile Hammer is up and is ready to clothesline Morrus/Hart w/ the table)

Flair: NO MORE HARDCORE! NO MORE HARDCORE!! You want hardcore?!?

Morrus: Yeah.

Flair: Fine, you can have it. (Morrus/Hart get clotheslined w/ said table and Hart tumbles out of the ring) There, ya got your hardcore. NO MORE HARDCORE! (Turns to Hart) JIMMY HART, YOU KNOW BETTER THAN THAT!!! (Turns to the same fan) Don't you backtalk me punk, I'll slap you right across the mouth! (Ref escorts Flair out of the ring area)

And in typical WCW fashion, Hammer proceedes to suplex Morrus through the table anyway.

"You're an overbearing asshole! You're obnoxious, overbearing - abuse of power! You... Abuse of power! Cut me off! Abuse of power! You suck!I hate your guts! You are a liar, you're a cheat, you're a scam! You are a no-good son-of-a-bitch! Fire me! I'm already fired! Fire me! I'm already fired!"

As HHH reveals his plot about having Batista almost ran over Flair's mouth gapes open like he is scared and about run and pack his bags before "Dave" gets there. However, he then begins to smile, beat his chest, strut, and tell HHH about how he is such a genious. Pure comedy gold.

Oh man, that was pure gold.

I remember during when Evolution interacted with Eugene alot. There were a couple times that were just, wow.

Two:

- Evolution are backstage congratulating Orton on a victory with manly chest slaps. Flair does one of his own, which Randy sells~!

- When he went absolutely bonkers after being eliminated by Batista, going as far as threatening to pop security guys and fans in the mouth.

Everytime the jacket gets thrown, which is every time he wears a suit.

The all-time classic:

Booker T and someone are fighting backstage when out of nowhere Ric Flair appears screaming, ranting and raving leading HHH in a forklift.

To give a more accurate pinpoint, that night Triple H fought RVD for the WWE Title in a Lumberjack Match, and used the forklift to blockade the face locker room (a trick The Rock used on DX in the summer of '98).

Kane ran in afterwards and beat down everyone walking, which was the week after Triple H accused him of being a murderer/rapist to build up No Mercy.

This would be my favorite WWE "old-man Flair" moment, only because of the randomness of it.

I love the whole gimmick. He's evolved Ric Flair, the charactor, into one of the more humorous guys in WWE, and he can still go when he needs to. His in ring abilities aren't even close to what they used to be but he makes up for it by playing a different role these days.

The build up to the Vince/Flair Streetfight from 02, when Flair elbow drops the microphone, just sheer brilliance....

Raw when flair missed the top rope as he got irish whipped by michaels. Didn't he like cut his nose or something. The noise he made was hilarious.

Also Flair's fake heart attack while in his Florida Gator boxers was pretty classic. I thought we'd see a little more than we bargained for, thank god we didn't.

This happened during a match, but I think it'd still count:

Flair's funky dance before putting Vince in the Figure Four at Royal Rumble 02.

Didn't THQ use that for Ric Flair in all the Smackdown games released after this PPV? The most electrifying dance in sports-entertainment!

In 1998, it could be argued that Ric Flair was one of the top five draws in the country. He was certainly the number two actual draw in WCW behind Goldberg following his return (which bumped the Nitro rating high enough to beat a RAW where Stone Cold was defending the WWF title, which was ultra rare).

I loved when on a Raw in 2003 I believe, HHH was wrestling Hurricane and Hurricane came down and put his mask on a little kid as he always does. Well when HHH made his way down, Flair found the fan and proclaimed "that's mine!" ripped the mask off the kid, then tried to wear it himself. When it didn't fit, he threw it on the ground and began stomping on it right in front of the kid.

Flair taking to Gene Snitsky and putting over the "IT WASN'T MY FAULT!" line, was awesome.

I had almost totally forgotten about that. GREAT moment courtesy of the Nature Boy.

Ric Flair TRULY puts energy into everything he does...lol.

The last time I saw that, well ONE OF MANY, was Royal Rumble 2005, when he was ULTRA giddy over the number choosing, and even more giddier when he noticed what number he got! I just found that funny for some reason.

Flair was gold in the musical chairs segment. While it was treated like a joke since the beginning of the segment, Flair gets all serious after 2 or 3 turns and had thrown his jacket off. He also began strutting behind Stacy only to push her, and went hysterical because he strutted when the music went off immediately after the last elimination.

And, whether it was sarcasm or not, mentionning Bagwell among all the legends of the NWA and WCW during the final Nitro was crazy too.
