Carnival 0 Report post Posted April 23, 2005 What version of windows? Try pinging things...see what you can ping. start...run..type"cmd"(if windows XP) "command" (if other windows)(do not type quotes) type "ping 166.102.165.202" or type "ping www.tacobell.com" if that works you can access internet If it's just some pages not working. Try pinging those sites by name. Maybe reset TCP/IP or Winsocks (if windows XP service pack 2) type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" to reset TCP/IP in Win XP type "netsh winsock reset" to reset winsocks in Win XP sp 2 Otherwise if it's an older version of windows you'll have to have the install cd to reset either TCP/IP or winsocks. Guest Crux Report post Posted April 24, 2005 I have the internet--its just certain sites that just wont work. I pinged: www.hilarie-burton.com www.pagesixsixsix.com www.stufflikethatthere.com And they all timed out/didnt work. These sites have been working for other people and not me. I also tried the 'netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt' command, and that didnt seem to help either. I dont know what else to do. I really appreciate you replying, though. Carnival 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2005 I take it you don't have service pack 2 installed on your XP. cuz resetting the winsocks usually works for cases like this. resetting the winsocks with out SP2 requires the CD. If there is any way that you could get the IP's of the sites you are trying to access, try to ping those sites by the IP. If you can ping by IP but not name it's probably a DNS issue and you can type that sites IP in your browser and it should come up. You'd have to contact your ISP for their DNS #'s Other things it could be....Maybe that site has some sort of heafty flash or something none of your browsers support. Or if you are running behind any firewalls try turning those off. Try to turn off any anti-anything programs you are running and trying. Many programs have firewalls in them that you may not realize. Well i do tech support for a living, so i'm trying. but usually if people are not getting certain pages...it's either winsocks, firewalls, or some other computer issue. Also make sure your friends going to those sites are getting updated versions and they aren't pulling that site from the cache.
Guest Crux Report post Posted April 25, 2005 I really appreciate you helping. I never could get the Service Pack 2 Update...in fact, the entire Windows Update page never works for me. All I get is 'Checking for the latest version of the Windows Update software...' Then nothing. So w/e updates Windows has had for the past...I dont know, 8 months? I havent gotten. I recently uninstalled Norton since it was expired and installed Avast in its place (it found 30 viruses that I put quaratined Still nothing, though). Ive tried it w/ different browsers--Mozilla/IE/MSN. None of them work. And now I cannot access my own site--online or ftp. And now I dont even know if it's legit down or just my comp.
