World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars Get Behind the Wheel as "WWE Crush Hour" Is Unveiled

First World Wrestling Entertainment Licensed Car Combat Game Announced For Every Next Generation Platform

CALABASAS HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 2002-- THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI - News) and JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAKK - News) today announced "WWE Crush Hour." The first ever car combat experience featuring World Wrestling Entertainment Superstars allows players to engage in battle across 12 intense levels littered with deadly traps and hazards. Developed by THQ subsidiary Pacific Coast Power & Light Co.®, "WWE Crush Hour" is the latest videogame based on the highly popular World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE: WWF - News) license and will be available early 2003 for the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system, Xbox video game system from Microsoft and Nintendo GameCube.

"We developed these fantasy vehicles by working closely with World Wrestling Entertainment to ensure true to character development and storyline," said Peter Dille, vice president, marketing, THQ. "If the Rock® is going to get behind the wheel of a sports car personalized especially for him, we want to make sure that all of his attitude and personality is accurately portrayed in the vehicle."

"THQ's goal with `WWE Crush Hour' is to extend the World Wrestling Entertainment license to the growing action genre while offering a new and unique gaming experience that appeals to wrestling fans and action gamers alike," said Don Traeger, president, Pacific Coast Power & Light Co. "`WWE Crush Hour' takes all of the attitude and drama of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand and blends it with intense vehicular combat to create a compelling gaming experience."

"World Wrestling Entertainment gamers will now have even more realism when the suped-up vehicles predominantly featured in programming make their videogame debut in `WWE Crush Hour,'" stated Nelo Lucich, director of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. "This action-packed title across all platforms will pair each Superstar with their signature personalized vehicle and will incorporate a brand new game play for the World Wrestling Entertainment video game line."

About "WWE Crush Hour"

"WWE Crush Hour" features more than 30 fantasy, personalized Superstar vehicles including Hollywood Hulk Hogan's sports car, Big Show's big rig, The Rock's luxury sports car and Stone Cold Steve Austin's jacked up monster truck. Players will be able to compete in multiple match types including ladder and hardcore matches modified for insane car combat. World Wrestling Entertainment fans can also annihilate opponents with multiple weapons customized for each vehicle or grab power-ups to really put the hurtin' on their foe. "WWE Crush Hour" utilizes unparalleled driving physics with the "Powerslide Advantage" allowing quick 180 degree turns, strafing attacks and pinpoint cornering. World Wrestling Entertainment's very own Jim Ross gives on-the-fly commentary and players will be able to taunt opposing drivers with signature phrases from their favorite Superstar.

Cars competing in a ladder match.  I'm actually interested to see this just to see if it's as bad as it sounds.  Can't wait to see Undertakers car no-sell Hogan again.

can you completely mangle HHH's car, but then have it a-ok a few seconds later?

If they have the Hurri-cycle on there, I'm buying that game.

"`WWE Crush Hour' takes all of the attitude and drama of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand and blends it with intense vehicular combat to create a compelling gaming experience."

Someone actually spoke the phrase, "intense vehicular combat."

Don Traeger ... let me remind you that your game is about professional wrestlers hopping in their cars and battling each other across 12 intense levels that are just littered with deadly traps and hazards.  Trying to make yourself sound all educated and respectable is pretty much a lost cause.

"World Wrestling Entertainment gamers will now have even more realism when the suped-up vehicles predominantly featured in programming make their videogame debut in `WWE Crush Hour,'" stated Nelo Lucich, director of interactive, JAKKS Pacific.

Guess wrestlers only appearing in wrestling games was too much of a stretch.  Soon we'll be seeing Maven™, Goldust™and Matt Hardy™ attempting to expose the horrifying secret of the corrupt MegaTech corporation by going undercover to infiltrate their labyrinthine headquarters.  C'mon, Nemo ... how do wrestlers killing each other with cars add more realism to anything?  Maybe in Dreamland, buddy, but not here.

Oh, well ... at least they'll be on my Gamecube now.  Can't say anything bad about that ... I mean, I've been waiting to control Hollywood Hulk Hogan's™ sports car ever since it was first predominantly featured on WWE programming.  I just hope they resign Gangrel™ so I get the chance to finally sit behind the wheel of his Chevy Impaler™.

Players will be able to compete in multiple match types including ladder and hardcore matches modified for insane car combat.

Looks like fighting cars with annihilative weapons isn't hardcore enough.

Then again ... annihilative weapons are not kendo sticks.

And the way I see it, the only way a ladder match can be modified for "insane car combat" is to not make it a ladder match.  Or at least not use the ladder, 'cause I don't know if it'd be able to hold under the massive weight of Big Show's™ big rig!

World Wrestling Entertainment fans can also annihilate opponents with multiple weapons customized for each vehicle or grab power-ups to really put the hurtin' on their foe.

Someone actually wrote the phrase, "put the hurtin' on their foe."

Oh, great - another Twisted Metal knockoff.  Hell, even the makers of TM can't even rip off themselves properly (e.g. TM: Small Brawl), why should the WWE think they should be able to?

Hogan should have his car from his Cartoon.

I think Taker's bike should have a sidecar for Paul Bearer.

What about the DX bus or a motorized shopping cart for Raven

Guest Redhawk
Posted

They can't have DX's bus, because as Michael Cole informed us: "AUSTIN 3:16 SAYS, 'I JUST WRECKED YOUR BUS!'"

They need to add a "Ho Train" to the game.

If we're going true-to-life, all of them should have rental cars.
