What is the story with Zero-One? I know that Hashimoto was supposed to retire and started it as his own promotion.  Hashimoto just worked the last Dome show, NOAH guys have worked for Zero-One, Misawa just worked the last Dome show, Zero-One has guys like Frye, Takaiwa, and Ohtani who used to be in New Japan.

 

Is Zero-One just a branch of New Japan like RAW and Smackdown! in WWE or is it an actual promotion?

The whole point of Zero-One is to work a inter-promotional series with New Japan, at the moment they're just killing time and forming a decent roster until the series kicks into gear for real.
