SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 Except their so-called comedies really suck and will never attract much of an audience. Yeah, too bad you're entirely fucking wrong. UPN Monday Night Line-Up 114. girlfriends upn $1,000,000 118. half & half upn $816,432 123. one on one upn $729,312 Wow! The 114th, 118th, and 123rd most popular shows on TV huh? Yeah, I was so wrong about them not attracting an audience with if they're the 114th, 118th, and 123rd most popular shows on TV! Great logic there, Socrates. Next time try proving smoking is good for you by showing pictures of cancer-infected lungs. Audience isn't worth shit if you're advertising rates are low. UPN for years has been (and possibly still is) a money-losing network. If they want to stay in business, even as the number six show, they have to make money. Your counter-argument only reinforces my point, which was: Their so-called comedies really suck and will never attract much of an audience. Thanks for playing, though. areacode212 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 Wow! The 114th, 118th, and 123rd most popular shows on TV huh? What Placebo posted was a ranking of how much income each show pulls in, not popularity. And yeah, take a look: Girlfriends (a half-hour show) brings in over half of what 2-hour Smackdown brings in, plus there's potential $$ from syndication, etc. Their Thursday night slot is an area for growth and possibly greater ad revenue, and they're unlikely to find that with Smackdown sitting there. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 What Placebo tried to do was attack my assessment of UPN's popularity by changing the subject to comparative cash-flow. See this quote? Except their so-called comedies really suck and will never attract much of an audience. Did I fucking say a goddamn word about dollar figures? No. I said THEIR SHOWS SUCK AND WILL NEVER DRAW MUCH OF AN AUDIENCE. Keeping the 123rd most popular show on your goddamn schedule instead of replacing it with something potentially better is not a good way to grow your shitty network. The only thin UPN is doing here is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Their ship is sinking, and moving the same crappy shows to a different night isn't going to stop that from happening. Guest crownofthorns13 Report post Posted May 21, 2005 Here in the Boston market (and I'm pretty sure in NY too) UPN airs baseball every Friday night during the season (roughly 25 times per year). That means that SD will be pre-empted in at least those two markets HALF THE YEAR. I would think that UPN has similar baseball deals around the country as well. zyn081 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2005 If UPN want to get shot of SD and Vince doesnt like this, couldnt they just end the deal early? And if WWE goes to WGN, would that mean that TNA would have to start negotiating with Spike TV?
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Some news: Viacom to split into 2 companies: The CBS company, to be called CBS Corp., will be run by Moonves. It also will hold Infinity Broadcasting, the second- largest U.S. radio broadcaster after Clear Channel Communications Inc.; the Paramount Television production studio; and the Simon & Schuster book publishing house. Freston will run the MTV Networks company, to be called Viacom Inc., which also will hold the Paramount Pictures movie studio and some of the company' cable networks such as Nickelodeon and BET. The division may be worth about $43 billion, about one-third more than its current value, Soleil Securities Corp. analyst Laura Martin said in a March research report. Dont know if this will have any impact on things or not. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=100...=top_world_news
