Guest wildpegasus Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 Yeah, so has anyone ever noticed that any audio you will ever hear from a vidoe game while watching a film, commerical, TV show - real life or animated will always be either Donkey Kong or Pac-Man? Every single time. I myself think it's a pretty cool trait and was once again reminded of this while catching up on the LOST Tv show a couple of hours ago. In that the charactor Walt is playing a sking game yet the audio is distinctly Donkey Kong and than Pac-Man. Does anyone know WHY this is? Is it now a law?
Anya Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 It's an easy way to show that they're playing a video game. Most modern games don't sound any different than a TV show.
Slayer Posted May 30, 2005 Report Posted May 30, 2005 I remember thinking the same thing when I still watched prime time TV in the 90's and they did that with every video game, so I'd say Anya's argument doesn't really hold in that case, since almost-movie games didn't come out for a good while after I quit watching I think it's because the older sound effects are practically public domain, or at least fairly cheap, whereas if you wanted to use, say, the classic Mario theme (doo-doo do doo-doo doo! doo...) you'd probably have to pay a good sum to Nintendo That is kind of funny if they are still using Atari sound effects though, which, while causing flashbacks in us older people, probably leave kiddies of today scratching their heads and saying "wtf d00d"
