The top 5 scariest themes

Recommended Posts

What are your top 5 themes? They don't have to be in order.

Mine are in no particular order:

1. Friday the 13th - that breathing stuff would be freaky if you were by yourself in a dark spot.

2. Unsolved Mysteries - It just freaked me out.

3. Haunted History - Same as above.

4. Tales From The Crypt - Always did it to me as a kid

5. Jaws -  As a kid the Jaws movies were scary as hell.

Unsolved Mysteries should be numbers 1 through 4. I still won't watch that show by myself at night. Even if the cases are 15 years old, that music and Robert Stack's voice can make insurance con men scarier than any serial killer.

Twilight Zone would be No. 5

Halloween's theme was simple yet classic and haunting.

Unsolved mystery's theme did frighten me alot as a child as I believed in aliens and ghosts and the theme would get lodged in my head and make me thinks of those things.

The main title theme from Suspiria. It just sounds so damn evil. Another Argento film with an awesome opening theme is Inferno (composed and performed by Keith Emerson :)). Very simple, but so incredibly haunting. I don't remember the name of the piece, Ave Satani or something along those lines, from the Omen is another one of my favorites. And John Carpenter's score for the Fog is really creepy as well (I don't remember if it had a real theme though). The theme from Alien is great too, as it so perfectly contrasts the rest of the film.

Halloween, Psycho and the Exorcist. These three themes are all extremely closely associated with their movies, and I dont know if that makes them less or more scary, I guess it depends on your opinion of the movies, but they are scary themes.

Philip Glass' main title theme from Candyman with the organ, and also the later Candyman theme with the piano are very dreamy sounding and creepy.

Its been a long time since Ive watched the show, but I remember Tales from the Dark Side having a scary theme.

Man... I used to watch Unsolved Mysteries at night and I couldn't even walk down the hall to my room because I was so scared. One time, they had a case that wasn't solved about some killer from Mississippi and since I'm from Alabama, I was scared so bad that I couldn't sleep well for a month.

My runner-up would be the Tales From the Crypt theme. I used to always fast forward past the opening because when the Keeper sprang up out of his casket, I would almost shit myself even if I could see it coming.

I agree on Suspiria, that was a great opening track.

Halloween also has a great, memorable score. Friday the 13th as well. The Evil Dead had a pretty creepy soundtrack.

Don't have a top five but if I did numero uno would be Zombies, that would be fucked up killing my own family and friends to keep them from eating me.
