PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2005 New PWG press release!: PWG Rocks You With "Guitarmageddon" on June 11! By Silverback, PWG Staff Writer Emigrant Gap, CA - Much like the famous inventor Archimedes, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) commissioner "SoCal" Valerie Wyndham shouted "Eureka!" after the conclusion of the last PWG event, because the line up for June had more or less booked itself. While Ms. Wyndham doesn't know anything about Archimedes nor his famous phrase, and was actually referencing a mildly successful children's program from the late 1980's, the sentiment remains the same. After a period of relative calm within the PWG ranks, tensions had reached their breaking point, and the shocking betrayal of Super Dragon finally seemed to turn everything on its head. PWG Champion AJ Styles, after fighting Christopher Daniels to a 60 minute draw, told Ms. Wyndham that since the Fallen Angel hasn't proven he can beat AJ in PWG, he's not getting a rematch, and that she should nominate someone new to challenge for the title. Luckily the new commissioner was prepared for this, and shocked AJ, the locker room, and the fans with her announcement that former WWE Superstar James Gibson would be next in line for a shot at the title! Styles said he's prepared to face anyone who wants a shot at him and the belt, no matter who they are or where they've been. Except for Christopher Daniels, for now at least! This was fine by Christopher Daniels, since he looks at the events of May 13th not as a failure to win the PWG Championship, but at a successful defense of the TNA X-Division Championship. Confident that since Styles couldn't beat him, no one else could, Daniels also told SoCal Val that he wants someone new to defend the title against, and she quickly granted that wish. After turning more than a couple heads in the last few months, and his impressive victory last month, El Generico was nominated to be the next challenger for the X-Division title! Incensed, Daniels demanded someone else get the shot, but Val said the decision was final, and that the belt would be on the line when the Generic Luchadore faces the Fallen Angel at "Guitarmageddon!" Speaking of the X-Division Championship, a man who previously challenged for the title at PWG's "All Star Weekend" will be making his return to Southern California when Alex Shelley meets Joey Ryan at "Guitarmageddon!" Shelley was unsuccessful in defeating Christopher Daniels for his title, but impressed SoCal Val enough to be asked back to compete in PWG, and will have no less of a test on his hands as he faces Joey Ryan. While Joey was at ringside with Arrogance last month, he was conspicuously absent from in ring competition, which some have said could have been to shake off some ring rust since coming back from injury. Joey maintains that this is not true, he was merely using some discretion since earlier that week he got a fairly severe ice cream headache, and under doctor's orders, was unable to set foot in the ring. Joey Ryan would be able to silence his critics with a victory on June 11, but his focus should be on Alex Shelley, not the nay sayers in the crowd! While the 60 minute time limit draw was an impressive display of professional wrestling, the biggest news to come out of "Jason Takes PWG" was the revelation that Excalibur was behind the plot to bring down Super Dragon, and that "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen was under the mask of the second Super Dragon! Excalibur claimed that their team, SBS, and PWG as a whole, was too focused on Super Dragon and feeding his ego, rather than loyalty to the team, the other individuals involved in PWG, and elevating them to positions of prominence in the world of professional wrestling. Because of this, Excalibur revealed, he had concocted the Doppelgänger Dragon plot as a to means right the perceived wrongs against him, and getting back at Dragon didn't hurt either. To execute his plan, Excalibur allied himself with a man who he says has limitless potential, a man who, once out from under the oppressive thumb of Super Dragon, will flourish and reach unimaginable heights in the world of professional wrestling, and man whose very nickname speaks of his talent, Kevin Steen. Teaming together as "the true" SBS, Excalibur and Steen have made it clear that they are out to destroy Super Dragon, and anyone standing in their way would be considered an enemy and dealt with harshly. This puts the third member of the original SBS, Disco Machine, in a very precarious position to say the least. Excalibur has extended the offer to Disco to join with he and Steen, while Dragon has pointed out on multiple occasions that he has never betrayed anyone so viciously, while Excalibur has. Either way, Excalibur & Kevin Steen will collide with Super Dragon & Disco Machine! What will happen, true believers? Could this rift amongst former partners tear PWG asunder? Be there on June 11 at "Guitarmageddon!" to find out for yourself! Also at "Guitarmageddon!," Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre) may actually show up, and finally face the Aerial Express (Quicksilver & Scorpio Sky,) who feel that the Luchas have been dodging them, and that a victory of them would refocus AXP's attention on the PWG Tag Team Championship. Speaking of the tag titles, Arrogance (Chris Bosh & Scott Lost) have made it clear that they feel there is no more sufficient competition left for them in PWG, and that they are in talks with the Fox Network to orchestrate some sort of "American Idol" type show for the tag team titles. While Fox executives have not responded, and Fox lawyers have sent a cease & desist order to Arrogance, the champions assure us that they have something special in mind for June 11th! Plus Human Tornado, Davey Richards, Hook Bomberry, Top Gun Talwar, and more! Fans who may have missed some of the PWG action, or those who just want to relive some of their favorite moments in PWG history may be interested to know that five new DVD's will soon be available, and the Wacky Fun Time Summer Special is going on over at http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com! I really expect big things out of Steen/Excalibur Vs. SD/Disco and Alex Shelley Vs. Joey Ryan. I'll have a big boring in depth preview of this show up a week before the show.... so look out for that..... or not.
PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2005 UNOFFICAL “PWG: Guitarmageddon! Preview” by Paul Newberry w/ Jay “Don’t call me Danny” Doring “The object, Truth, or the satisfaction of the intellect, and the object, Passion, or the excitement of the heart, are, although attainable, to a certain extent, in poetry, far more readily attainable in prose” – Edgar Allan Poe HELLO! And welcome back to another (unofficial) PWG Preview! We were gone last month.... but I'm proud to say that after a huge outpouring of cards, e-mails, singing telegrams and letters, begging like homeless people in front of Save-on Drugs for the return of this column... It's back! (Ok well, actually I only got one letter... and even that had the wrong address on it... but that sounds better than "no one really gave a damn" right?) Although writing this (unofficial) preview is going to tough for me, as due to a transportation issue, I will be forced to miss this show! Making it amazingly (or sadly, depending your perspective) only the 2nd PWG show I've ever missed! So in this column I will be telling you about what a great show I am probably going to miss! That should be a blast…. Anyway, helping me out once again, will be the man you would be hard-pressed to figure out anything positive he's contributed to this board or any others he happens to post on (beside this I guess) www.ParadiseCityNinjas.bravehost.com 's own Jay Doring! {crickets} SO... have anything to say, Jay? Jay: Howdy everybody... Hmmm perhaps I should have made that; "do you have anything interesting to say" Ok, enough idle chit chat (that you people probably skipped past anyway….) Now let's begin.... the countdown..... to.... Guitarmageddon! In today's music, with hip hop, DJ turntable rigs, sampler synths, keyboards, and drum machines quickly becoming the standard…. the good old fashion rock-guitar has been left to whither and die on the vine of abandonment and neglect. So how far will the once mighty guitar’s legacy decline go? And how long will it take to bottom out? Nobody seems to know for sure, but Pro Wrestling Guerrilla for one, is not content on leaving the next generation of music lovers with nothing but recycled, digitally-sampled techno-grooves, quasi-synth rhythms, pseudo-songs of violence-laden gangsta-rap, acid pop, and soulless slush, As on June 11th, 2005 AD… PWG will resurrect the soul of guitar rock as they proudly present GUITARMAGEDDON! Live at the Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC! No. 1 Contenders Match: The Aerial Express (Scorpio Sky & Quicksilver) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre) previously on "As the Guerrilla turns": At PWG's Use Your Illusion 4. The AXP received their first crack at the PWG Tag titles… but ran into a “slight” bump on the road to the titles. As after an incredible match, Babi Slymm saw fit to interfere and after a miscommunication ended up spearing his own stable mate Chris Bosh! Scorpio Sky went for the cover and it looked like he had the match won. As Referee Hernandez crawled over… but instead of counting the fall, called for the disqualification due to Slymm’s interference! The AXP had been robbed the tag team titles, and Arrogance had lived to fight another day. Undaunted, The Express kept on rolling as they fought their way back to another title shot defeating Kevin Steen/El Generico, and The Havana Pitbulls along the way. At "All Nude Revue" The AXP received their 2nd shot at the titles and again came up short, as Arrogance’s sly craftiness once again enabled them to escape with the titles as they used the ropes for leverage to once again steal one from The AXP. The anger of being cheated out of the titles once again, caused Scorpio Sky to explode (Yes, literally explode!) as he attacked Referee Patrick Hernandez, and vented his anger by throwing chairs into the ring. After this defeat the Aerial Express were once again at a crossroads. But it’s hard to keep a good team down. AXP returned to the title hunt at “Jason Takes PWG” and were victorious over Hook Bomberry/Top Gun Talwar and The Ballard Brothers in a 3-way dance. With the momentum back on their side, The AXP are primed and ready for another crack at the titles they were twice unjustly robbed of . But first… at PWG’s “Guitarmageddon" in order to receive their third shot at the titles and the chance at redemption against Arrogance, they must first get past another team hungry for the gold (and perhaps Tacos) the high flying duo of Los Luchas! (Who are 2-0 in recent PWG meetings against AXP members) It all goes down on June 11th! BE THERE! Past history? : 12-22-02 in RevPro, 6-28-03 in AWS (as part of a 3-way with The X-Foundation) and 10-25-03 in AWS. As well as numerous other related meetings, including Scorpio Sky/Human Tornado Vs. Los Luchas –Ernest Memorial, AXP/Tornado Vs. Los Luchas/Generico – All Star Weekend Night Two, among others… PWG Records: Quicksilver is 10-11, Scorpio Sky is 9-11, 6-3 as a duo Phoenix Star is 4-5 and Zokre is 3-6, 1-2 as a duo My Thoughts: As the famous German "father of natural healing," Sebastian Kneipp, would say….”it is suited for old people, for it warms the stomach." No that's not it... What I mean to say is that, while I haven’t actually seen any of their previous two on two tag team meetings (I’ve really been meaning to buy that Best of The AXP DVD honestly.. but well sometimes in the life you have to make that choice… the ivory backscratcher or a wrestling DVD) but from all published reports, they’ve all been remarkable bouts. However though, I have seen their other meetings in PWG, which were excellent! (is that detail or what?) Really just knowing the style of both these teams, makes it quite simple to envision all the potential this match up has. So expect a fun high flying spectacle here…. Kind of like one of those Martial arts movies where Asians start they start flying around for no explained reason. Ok well maybe… replace flying Asians with flying masked wrestlers, and you’ll get the point.. So unlike LeVar Burton, take my word for it! This one just may steal the show… and your heart! My pick for “sleeper match of the night” My Prediction: The AXP move on to their record 3rd PWG Tag Title shot Match without a catchy subtitle Alex Shelley vs. Joey Ryan The CURSE of Joey Ryan: According to the extremely credible national publication “The Weekly World News” curses are everywhere around us, from the Chicago Cubs losing every year for not letting a Billy Goat attend a game, to Michael Jackson paying 150 grand to put a "voodoo curse" on Steven Spielberg for not letting his Billy Goat attend the more walkie-talkie friendly re-release of “ET”. While in PWG exists perhaps the only curse in recorded history not involving a Billy Goat… this of course being the CURSE OF JOEY RYAN. Think about it, where ever Joey has gone in PWG…. severe misfortune and just plain ole’ bad luck has been sure to follow him like a myspace rat. Some recent examples include: The Next Show: In a Ladder Match with Scott Lost, Joey Ryan had won the match, after he scaled the ladder and captured the tag titles! Only to find the referee had been knocked out! Which gave the First Family the opportunity to interject….and in turn robbed Joey of the PWG Tag Team titles. Use Your Illusion 3: Joey Ryan Vs. Samoa Joe. Joey looks to have the biggest match of his life going his way... until a distraction from Super Dragon costs him the match. Convinced yet? It gets better… Use Your Illusion 4: Joey Ryan went toe to toe with Super Dragon in a grueling Iron Man match. The contest is tied at 3 falls a piece when Joey Ryan destroys Super Dragon with a DUFF DROP to the floor (a move he's beaten him with before) And just when he rolls him back into the ring for the sure pinfall and the biggest win of his life.... the time limit expires! In classic Joey fashion, he ends up losing the match and suffering a serious injury in sudden death overtime. Curse you say? Ernest P. Worrell Memorial: Joey's big return match after 6 months on the shelf! He's just about to finish off Chris Bosh with a chair and let out some repressed rage... when Frankie Kazarian snatches it from his hand! Giving Bosh time to recover and wrap the chair around Joey's head. Costing him his big return match, the tag titles, long awaited retribution and just plain knocking him so silly he thought Hilary Duff’s “Raise your voice” was a good movie... All Star Weekend Night Two: In another high profile match, Joey Ryan after putting up a great fight... fell to Petey Williams. Once again snatching defeat from the mouth of victory. With all this bad luck... it is any wonder that Joey Ryan refused to wrestle on PWG’s Friday The 13th show? Is this startling series of eerie revelations just a coincidence? And what can be done to break this curse? Well in Joey’s case… he needs to finally score that big win. And June 11th at PWG’s “"Guitarmageddon" he’ll have the opportunity to “reverse the curse” as he’ll face another major talent in the name of “The Next” Alex Shelley (fresh off a WWE tryout) who will be looking add a victory over Joey Ryan to his already impressive resume. Will Joey Ryan finally score the big victory and halt his downward spiral? Or will this be yet another setback to be added to Joey’s growing list of PWG misfortunes? Find out June 11th! Past History: First time ever meeting. PWG Records: Alex Shelley is 1-1 overall, Joey Ryan is 10-16 overall Jay Doring's thoughts: Another first-ever meeting on this card may prove to be a lot more heated than expected. At first glance, Alex Shelley and Joey Ryan are strikingly similar competitors. They both started in the business at relatively young ages, gaining notoriety in their home territories. They've both had multiple classic matches with what many people consider their "signature" opponents (Jimmy Jacobs in Shelley's case and Super Dragon in Ryan's.) As former PWG star CM Punk would point out, both of their names are first names, and both last names can be girl's names (hey, I knew a girl named Ryan). Finally, they are both quite popular with the ladies (in Joey's case, both living and dead.) However, Alex Shelley and Joey Ryan differ on one key point, a point that may fuel Joey's newfound dark side rage. Alex Shelley, because of his tremendous ability, has been able to ply his trade all over the world. He's competed for IWA-MS, CZW, ROH,TNA, wrestled for two promotions in Japan and earned a regular spot on Zero-One MAX's' ever-expanding gaijin roster (which now includes my girlfriend's Aunt Ellie, Scott Baio and the cat from "Stuart Little.") Joey Ryan, on the other hand, has one measly CZW show on his high-profile resume outside SoCal (where he fell to the mighty JIMMY RAVE~! BOOK HIM PWG~!) Watching his Border City doppelganger earn such acclaim while he toils on the perpetually sunny, celebrity-filled, bikini-clad shores of Southern California must really eat Joey up something fierce. "Nice guy" Joey would have shrugged and said "oh well," and had an Eskimo pie, but this is new, angry Joey, and in this battle between two "Technical Wizards," expect Joey Ryan to pull out all sorts of mean and nasty shit (no, not Paris Hilton. BA-ZING~!) In order to pick up a key victory in his renewed drive to the PWG Championship. My Prediction: I have to say Joey Ryan takes this one, as he's been winless since August of 2004.... Ouch… TNA X-Division Championship Match: Christopher Daniels © vs. El Generico Now it's time for the first… and perhaps last installment of Jay Doring's "WHY THEY'RE FIGHTING" Since I'm a noted pro wrestling INSIDER JOURNALIST~! (Just ask Nick Mondo's girlfriend's mom's friend from the hair salon- I gots the hookups, yo), I have been able to uncover *exclusive insight* into why these two men have been matched up by the esteemed Pro Wrestling Guerrilla matchmaking squad. It's all because El Generico's good friend and translator Stevie McFly. You see... McFly like his famous um, surname-sake (MARTY!) is also the owner of a time machine! While on one of his jaunts across the continuum (trying to stop Futurama from getting cancelled by Fox) he discovered that Christopher Daniels' rental car in Japan was going to be blown up by the infamous Yakuza if he retained the IWGP junior tag team titles with American Dragon (he turned down their suggestion of changing his gimmick to "Sushi Man."). So he charged up his Flux Capacitor (on loan from Frankie Kazarian) and McFly convinced Simon Inoki (who in the future, is Emperor of Japan and a close friend of President Dusty Rhodes) to put the belts back on Jado and Gedo. Infuriated, and unwilling to believe a cockamamie "time machine" story, Daniels hopes to torture Generico sufficiently to provide information on his continent-wide manhunt for the man known only as Stevie McFly. Umm ok Jay… thanks for that drunken rant… now get me a Whiskey Sour! (Know what? I don’t drink myself but the idea of a WHISKEY SOUR has always been appealing to me. I’m assuming it’s a whiskey that is also sour. What a world… what’s next? Corn that is also a nut? What would they call it? Corn nuts? Ha ha. Lousy hippies.... damn am I sure I don't drink?) Past History: They of course met as a part of a 4-way dance at PWG's Ernest Memorial. And I want to say at least once in Canada in a either a tag match or pie eating contest.... PWG Records: Christopher Daniels is 8-7-1 overall and 7-4-1 as a single, El Generico is 3-4, 2-3 as a single Jay Doring's thoughts: There a certain magical moments in pro wrestling, and one of them is when you witness a grappler blossom, like the dainty lotus or the expanding chest of apre-pubescent girl, into a member of the elite. He just GETS IT, like Luke Skywalker figuring out the intricacies of the Force in Return of the Jedi. It happened with Paul London in 2002 and Chris Hero in 2003. 2004 belonged to El Generico. The ascension of Generico to such a lofty plane of in-ring skill astounds me to this day, as I have a hard time believing he's the same guy as the skinny yar...youngling (man, wasn't Revenge of the Sith great?) who had two of the worst matches I've ever seen at IWS Know Your Enemies 2003. Generico's rapid improvement first became apparent in the 2003 Canadian Match of the Year, a three-way with Kevin Steen and Pierre Carl Oulette, that those gosh darn Canucks still talk about reverently to this day. Then, he invaded CZW and stole the spotlight from new golden boy Sexxxy Eddy with a balls-out spectacular performance in the High Stakes IWS 4way. Better and better matches followed: the EWR 3way at Under-rated where he hung every step of the way with AJ Styles. The SoCal vs. Canada tag match at Cage of Death 6 that stole the show. Taking Super Dragon to the limit everywhere from California to Philadelphia to Germany to England (one of which I had the pleasure of witnessing front and center- Super Dragon/Stevie Douglas vs. Aviv Maayan/Generico at IPW-UK). As well as winning EWR’s “Elite Eight” tournament to officially claim the right as Canada's best cruiserweight. El Generico is one of the few wrestlers in North America who I can honestly say is not capable of having anything less than a great match right now. If he manages to snare the X-Division title from Christopher Daniels, it'll catapult him to cable TV and PPV glory, and cement him as one of the best talents on the continent. However, taking the title might prove impossible, considering whose waist it's around. Christopher Daniels, since winning the X-Division title, has been unbeatable anywhere in the world. He defended it successfully against Styles, the current PWG and NWA WORLD champion, in England. He beat Shocker, the biggest star in Mexico, at TNA Hard Justice. He defended it TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW at PWG All-Star Weekend, against Chris Hero and Alex Shelley, two guys who are as tough as they come. Daniels is one of wrestling's true "ice men", a grappler who truly believes he is the best in the world, with the track record to back it up. Daniels has the undeniable mental and experience edge on Generico, and that's why he'll retain on June 11th. As for the match's quality? Generico, as stated earlier, is on the hot streak of a lifetime, and Daniels, while it's the new kewl thing in the "look at me I'm SMART!" inhaler-reliant net geek world to bash him to death, is one of the most consistently great performers in the industry, and I have a feeling this contest will share Match of the Night honors with the main event. Prediction: Christopher Daniels retains his title. Now, just to test if anyone actually reads this far, It's time for another "WHO THE HELL WOULD KNOW THAT?" PWG trivia question! You ready? This month’s question: What was the only PWG match ever to be presented OUT OF ORDER (It’s LIVE order that is) on a PWG DVD? GRUDGE MATCH~! Excalibur and Kevin Steen vs. Super Dragon and Disco Machine Seeing double... Dragons: The 2nd Super Dragon saga Our story begins at PWG’s Uncanny X-Mas…. Super Dragon was basking in the glory of his first title defense. And just when he thought his night was over… he was attacked from out of nowhere… by… Super Dragon? This “Doppledragon” took SD by surprise and stuck him with his own Super Natural Driver… and left as suddenly as he appeared. The next month at “Card Subject To Change” was strangely Doppledragon free. And the threat seemed to have passed… Until PWG’s strangely clothed “All Nude Revue” where after Super Dragon scored one of the biggest victories of his life over Samoa Joe. Super Dragon 2nd was right there to rain on his parade as he took down the wounded Super Dragon with his own curb stomp (Trademark 2005 Simon Dean, All rights reserved) before Disco Machine rushed in to Dragon’s rescue. Just when or where would he materialize next? The next month the 2nd Super Dragon’s head games were taken to a whole other level (especially in hind sight) as Excalibur and what he thought was Super Dragon went to the ring to address his situation with Disco Machine (who had suspended him from the previous event) When the SD in the ring, revealed himself to be the imposter as he took out Excalibur! The real Super Dragon and Disco Machine raced to the aid of their fallen ally… as the 2nd Super Dragon made his escape back into the realm of myth, speculation and Star Wars fans. This fake Super Dragon had done something many had tried but few had ever accomplished… he had not also succeeded in terrorizing Super Dragon… but had actually gotten underneath his skin. Perhaps just the anticipation of an attack was enough to throw Super Dragon off his game, as he fell to a wicked spinning lariat from AJ Styles to lose the PWG title he held so dear at “All Star Weekend Night 2” With nothing more to left lose, Super Dragon wanted nothing else but revenge on this imposter. And at “Jason Takes PWG” he was set to finish this once and for all. The rumors were abounding…Just who was behind these attacks? And how? And where? Was it Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with the Revolver? Or did Miss Scarlet commit the crime in the Library with the Candlestick? We didn’t have long to find out… As at “Jason Takes PWG” after months of rumors, intrigue, speculation and other dramatic sounding terms this was finally coming to a head.... Super Dragon and his mouth piece Excalibur hit the ring. Excalibur went on to explain that Super Dragon had challenged this imposter to not just any match… but the ultimate PWG match… GUERRILLA WARFARE! And ordered who ever was behind these attacks to reveal themselves… right now… And just as Super Dragon was set to meet his tormentor… Excalibur leveled him from behind with a mighty chair shot… and then planted him with a Tiger Driver 98. Super Dragon’s own best friend, Excalibur had revealed himself as the master mind behind the 2nd Super Dragon! Then in classic Bond villain fashion, Excalibur explained his sinister scheme and how he was tired of being given short shrift in PWG, while Super Dragon’s ego had been turning PWG into “PWSD” And all of a sudden everything made sense… afterall who would know how to get beneath SD’s skin better then his own best friend? Then the match had begun with a bang, as Excalibur cracked a chair over the cranium of Super Dragon with sickening velocity… but that was only the beginning. As what followed was perhaps the most violent match in PWG to date, weaving a tapestry of violence, which as far as we know, is still obit in somewhere right now over Montego Bay, Jamaica. The now former friends were flat out murdering each other with a myriad of sickening chair and ladder strikes (Including an inhuman Curb Stomp with EX’s head inside the ladder!) but no one matter what the other tied… they couldn’t put the other away. Dragon in particular had emptied his arsenal on Excalibur, including the Psycho Driver… which amazingly Excalibur kicked out of! It’d take something special to end this war… so SD went with what worked for him in past guerrilla warfare’s… he placed EX’s head in a set up chair and came off the top… crushing EX’s skull with a double stomp… as Gorilla Monsoon would say “it was all over but the shouting” Just then the dreaded DOPPLEDRAGON enters the ring and takes out Super Dragon. And then removes his mask to reveal… (drum roll….) KEVIN STEEN! (what an asshole!) Suddenly… even more of the puzzle pieces began to fit! They were determined to destroy Super Dragon once and for all, as Excalibur and Steen propped up a table in the corner… and EX just obliterates Super Dragon with a Tiger Driver 98 though the table, which gets the pinfall. But before Steen and Excalibur could finish the job, DISCO MACHINE ran in and chased them away… But had the damage had already been done? Now on June 11th, at Guitarmageddon… this war rages on as Kevin Steen and Excalibur will meet Super Dragon and Disco Machine, only this time minus the sneak attacks and the element of surprise… and plus one seriously pissed off Super Dragon! Will Steen and Excalibur succeed in finally taking out Super Dragon for good? Or will the Dragon’s wrath prove a bitter pill to swallow? Past History: Excalibur/Disco Machine/Super Dragon have a long and storied past that I don't have enough time to cover here. Super Dragon and Kevin Steen have met 4 times: Super Dragon/Excalibur vs. Kevin Steen/El Generico - CZW Cage of Death 6 Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen - PWG Ernest P. Worrell Memorial Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen vs. El Generico - PWG All Star Weekend Night 1 Super Dragon vs. Kevin Steen vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. B-Boy - CZW Best of the Best 5 PWG Records: Kevin Steen is 3-5 overall, Excalibur is 9-12 overall, Disco Machine is 7-14 overall and Super Dragon is 24-8 overall My Thoughts: If there is one match I'm sad I won't be able to see... it's this one. As there is nothing like a pissed off Super Dragon! Whenever SD loses in PWG… he comes back like a mushroom-cloud-layin' motherfucker, more pissed off and determined than ever! He’s superfly T.N.T, he’s the GUNS OF THE NAVARONE… but he’s been unstoppable in his "pissed off" phase. And damn, he does he ever work well with Excalibur, who he routinely murders on a matchly basis (I swear he died at least 7 times in that unbelievable Guerrilla Warfare match) And Kevin Steen, who Dragon has already produced 4 memorable matches and 2 children with. They have never failed to deliever yet, if you like your action intense... you've come to the right place. Plus Excalibur and Disco Machine have a good in ring chemistry too. I remember watching their WPW Best of the West match live and “saying damn this some good shit!” Of course it ended right that very second… but it was real a fine piece of Pro-wrestling (even though it went like 5 seconds) Plus, what about Disco Machine? Is there a chance he could turn on Dragon join up with Kevin Steen and Excalibur? And what about Scarecrow's brain? So many questions, so little answers. In closing, I'll say... with all due respect to AJ Styles and James Gibson (who will also tear up in there no doubt) this is the match to watch on June 11th. {Insert HYPE cliche saying here} Prediction: Kevin Steen/Excalibur take it. PWG Championship AJ Styles © vs. James Gibson Last Time: James Gibson: At All Star Weekend Night 1, after surviving the effects of a 40 rotation airplane spin was able to small package American Dragon and score a major victory in his PWG debut. AJ Styles fresh off doing the impossible at PWG’s All Star Weekend (where he defeated the two "unbeatable" forces in PWG, Samoa Joe and Super Dragon) went title for title with long time rival Christopher Daniels at "Jason Takes PWG" With so much on the line, and neither man wanting to make a costly error… they engaged in a game of human chess or was it “Human Monopoly”? (I forget which) for the full 60 minute time limit. AJ Styles wanting to be a fighting champion, challenged Daniels to go 5 more minutes… But the cowardly/wise/tired/smart Christopher Daniels declined the offer, stating that the fans didn’t deserve 5 more minutes of Christopher Daniels (or 5 more minutes that annoying drunk “Gatorade” fan screaming “Let’s go AJ!”) Although the match was ruled a draw, AJ took home the moral victory and the admiration of the fans. So now on June 11th, as PWG' presents "Guitarmageddon!" AJ Styles in the grand tradition of PWG champions past, will have to face the only the very top competitors the scene has to offer, this time around he’ll have to face Former WWE Crusier-weight Champion James Gibson for the first time ever! If he hopes to walk into PWG’s Historic 2nd anniversary shows with the gold. Past History: To my knowledge they've only met one time in the past... which was in waning days of WCW. 2/14/01 edition of WCW Thunder to be exact, when AIR RAID (AJ Styles/Air Paris) took on Jamie Knoble (James Gibson) and Evan Karagias. PWG Records: AJ Styles is 4-2-1 overall (4-0-1 in one on one matches) James Gibson is 1-0 (with a victory over American Dragon) Jay Doring's Thoughts: Not to sound like a shill or anything (Editors Note: Because we all know these things are never shills, Wink Wink nudge nudge…) but PWG really is the super-duper number-one-and-the-BEST promotion ever sometimes. When Jamie Noble hit the independent scene following his release from WWE, the two "dream matches" all independent fans wanted was Noble vs. American Dragon, and Noble vs. AJ Styles. Well, PWG has not only given its fans the AmDrag match at All Star Weekend, but they are delivering the FIRST-EVER singles contest between the "Phenomenal One" and the "Redneck Messiah" for its SoCal loyalists. AJ Styles is considered the gold standard for independent wrestling, and with good reason - in addition to being a 3-time TNA X-Division champion and 3-time NWA World Champion, he's held the top titles in multiple high-level Indies (Wildside, IWA-MS and now PWG) as well as 2 of ROH's 3 major championships. Noble on the other hand, has the big-time experience, taking on the biggest stars on the planet in both WWE and WCW. The one time AJ WAS in the big-time, he was beaten by Noble in a tag match, which might give the man now known as James Gibson a psychologically advantage. Match-wise, the styles of these two men may be a perfect fit. AJ is known to the masses for his work in the X-Division, but he's proven that he's a top talent on the mat as well, evidenced by his PWG match with Rocky Romero and his ROH match with American Dragon, among others. AJ will be more than capable of hanging with Gibson's brutal submission work. There is one final angle to this match I don't think many have considered. James Gibson has made no secret of the fact that he wants to make it back to WWE as soon as possible. In addition to being PWG champion, AJ Styles is also the NWA World champion, the top titleholder of the closest rival promotion. It may accelerate his return to the big-time if he can deal AJ a humiliating defeat and steal one of his belts. I'm also sure if offered the right price, PWG would gladly fork over that match footage to Vince, for it to be looped over and over again before every Jamie Noble match. I really can't make a prediction here, so I'll just go on a coin flip...AJ My Prediction: AJ Styles retains and moves on to PWG's 2nd Anniversary with the gold. Plus! The hottest team in wrestling right now, ARROGANCE: Scott Lost (18-9) & Chris Bosh (13-10) defend the Tag Team Championship! And appearances from Human Tornado! The PWG return of "Mr. Intensity" Davey Richards! Top Gun Talwar! Hook Bomberry! And more!!!!!! Please visit http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/news/ for official show details and fun! FINAL THOUGHTS: Wow what an excellent card... but if there is only one reason to attend this show.... it's that I won't be! I have the 4th worst luck on the planet (Behind only Charlie Brown, Kevin Costner and Ziggy) Consider this... the last time I missed PWG live was the first three matches at Free Admission (Just Kidding) and guess what? They turned up without sound on the DVD! Pretty shitty luck eh? So it wouldn't surprise me a bit if this turns out to be the greatest PWG live event of all time! Maybe Oprah will give everyone in attendance a new car just to taunt me! Or maybe PWG will deem this event "too awesome for human eyes" and not release it at all! So make sure to attend... won't you? Jay's final thoughts: Hey man, so what you miss one show. You live in SoCal, land of 40 Indy shows a week... where I live, “Magic Bean town" Ring of Honor runs in a urine-soaked hell hole once every 4 months and the other "touring" Indy thinks it's fun to put pedophilia jokes on their web show (don't get me started on local Indies- there's only so much Maverick Wild I can take!) I'd kill for PWG every month! (In fact I have... but hush that.) Newberry: First of all watch your mouth… why say “urine-soaked hell hole” when you could have just as easily said “pee-pee soaked heck hole” You’re a sick man, Danny. Jay: GAAAAWWWWDAMMIT, DON'T CALL ME DANNY! I'M THIS CLOSE TO RAPING YOU! Newberry: Yeah sure… you say that same thing to Jimmy Rave, I’ll bet. For the rest of you, who are not interested in raping Jimmy Rave, do remember to check out http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/merch/ and pick up the latest releases from PWG! Including: All Nude Revue: One of PWG's strongest efforts to date, that features the rematch six months in making as Super Dragon collides with Samoa Joe! Arrogance attempts to hang on to the gold against The Aerial Express! Kevin Steen Vs. Christopher Daniels, A wild 8 man tag, The PWG debuts of Alex Shelley and Roderick Strong and much more! Ernest P. Worrell Memorial: Hey Vern! Chris Hero meets Christopher Daniels for the first time ever! Kevin Steen vs. Jonny Storm! Frankie Kazarian’s PWG farewell…. And more! more! (did I mention more? BECAUSE THERE IS MORE!) Jason Takes PWG: It's Title vs. Title, as PWG Champion AJ Styles squares off with TNA X-Division champion, Christopher Daniels... who will walk out with the gold? Witness the shocking betrayal as Excalibur and Super Dragon take PWG violence to a whole other level as they engage in GUERRILLA WARFARE! Kevin Steen meets the debuting Sexxxy Eddy, Arrogance defend the PWG tag titles and the right to bare arms against Disco Machine and the returning Mr. Excitement!, You'll be brought to your knees... with hilarity as The Human Tornado takes on El Generico! It’s Cuba vs. Japan as Ricky Reyes meets the returning NOSAWA! A 3-way tag team dance, At long last the mystery of 2nd SUPER DRAGON is revealed and mor... actually that's it I think. It’s the hottest new trend around! It’s called “giving PWG money so they can keep producing these amazing shows and keeping suckas in line” so do it! Well, we've come to the end. Thank you for reading! I mean that! You… the guy in the “Makin’ Bacon” shirt reading this and saying “This jerk has too much time on his hands” THANK YOU! Also Thanks to Jay Doring for helping me out, and to IndyInsider.com for letting this be posted on their main page. See you next time for the PWG- 2 Legit 2 Quit (or whatever they decide to call their anniversary double shot next month, I personally like that name) preview. Guest BrokenWings Report post Posted June 9, 2005 I don't follow PWG nearly as closely as I should, but goddamn that was a good writeup, fellas. The whole Steen/Excalibur/Dragon angle sounds like gold, I love how it was drawn out over months. Because of this thread I'll be going out of my way to get my hands on that Guerilla Warfare match. Thank you, guys. Generico/Daniels should rock the house, as well. I wonder what kind of one-on-one chemistry they're going to have. This one could steal the show. And of course, everyone is more than excited for Styles/Gibson. There's not much which can be said that hasn't already, but I'm interested in how they mesh. I'm also wondering what kind of match will play out, and whether Styles will take to the air if he can't out grapple Gibson. Looks like a can't miss show. PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 Quick results: Arrogance beat Top Gun Talwar and Hook Bomberry to retain the tag titles Puma over Davey Richards and Human Tornado in an elimination 3-way. After he was eliminated Richards returned to the ring and UNMASKED PUMA! Joey Ryan pinned Alex Shelley after a roll up w/the ropes (excellent match) AXP over Los Luchas to earn a title shot, Arrogance came out afterward and made their match title month "Masks Vs. Titles" AJ Styles over Gibson after the Styles Clash (really good match) to retain the PWG and NWA World Titles/ Joey Ryan called out Mr. Excitement, and a match was made for next month. Chris Daniels over El Generico to retain the X-Division title Excalibur/Steen over Disco and SD after Disco turned on SD, and joined up with Steen/EX as the new SBS. Human Tornado and El Generico run in to save Super Dragon. A 6 man is made for next month. According to the flyer, the following will appear next month for the 2 year Double Shot: AJ Styles, Arrogance, Chris Sabin, Chris Daniels, Davey Richards, Disco Machine, El Generico, Excalibur, Hook Bomberry, Human Tornado, Joey Ryan, Kevin Steen, Petey Williams, LOS LUCHAS, AXP, Puma, Ricky Reyes, Super Dragon, Top Gun Talwar and "MUCH MUCH MORE" VERY SOLID show. Very tough to name a MOTN as everything was top notch, but Ryan-Shelley (which some guy in the crowd slept thru) AJ Vs. Gibson and The ME were my favs.
