1996 wcw/njpw tournament

Wrestleholics Video has a tape of September 1996 New Japan Wrestling. Several matches are for a tournament of WCW and New Japan wrestlers. Does anyone know what the tournament was for? I initialy thought it was the Crusierweight Title tournament but the tape has guys like Road Warrior Animal, Shinya Hashimoto, and Kensuke Sasaki in it.

Just a cross-promotional thing.  Maybe the winner got a title shot, I don't know.  It's the G1 Climax Special comm, from what I can glean.  The Liger/Benoit & Kosh/Hashimoto stuff looks nice, even if the rest sucks.
