Whose got the more "Flair"

Recommended Posts

I think the Three way at WrestleMania XX and Benoit-Angle at the '03 Rumble are the only ***** matches in WWE history. The three way is the only ***** match Triple H has ever had and he had the least to do with it out of anyone in the match.

I used to think that the Mania 3-Way was ***** until I actually sat down and paid attention. Now I'd put it around the **** mark. Eddy/Brock smoked it, even with the Goldie run-in.

For me, the Austin/Bret series (SS96 and WM97) are two of the three best matches in company history, with Rock/Austin (WM01) being the other. After that, I'm thinking Eddie/Brock (NWO04), Eddie/JBL (JD04), Bret/Hennig (KOTR93), Bret/Bulldog (IYH 5 95), Bret/Owen (WM94) and Piper/Bret (WM92). That's nine matches. Angle/Benoit MAY round out the ten, though it has some stiff competition. I'd put it about on par with Mankind/Michaels (MG96), Rock/Jericho (NM01) and maybe Austin/Angle (SS01). But I'd need to see all of those matches again to form a real solid opinion. So, yes, maybe it is a top ten match afterall, but I wouldn't call it the best.

I agree with calling it both men's best match in the company. Angle/Austin (SS01) is closest for Angle, and maybe Rock/Benoit (FL00) for Chris.

There is no way Austin/Rock is the best match in the WWE with that finish.

Fuck that. That was one of the greatest stories ever told in a WWE ring, and that finish was just the ultimate act of corruption and falling out of grace.

Part of what makes a story so great is where it's told. This story was told in the wrong place and the match suffered because of it. I wouldn't use the term "falling out of grace" to signify Austin's alliance with Vince, Stone Cold not exactly being the most angelic guy in the first place.

But he was a guy that was true to himself, a working man, and Vince was the antithesis of that. I'd call it a falling from grace, since he became a shadow of what he was.

Meh.

Austin's motto was Don't Trust Anybody. Him turning heel isn't that far off from a character who is, at heart, a heel. The fans made the decison to turn him face. Now, if The Rock had been the one who Vince had handed the chair to.......in Texas......turning on Austin. Shit. THAT would've gotten nuclear heat.

They should have gone with Rock as heel. He was getting booed and jeered in the lead up to WM X7 anyway, and it would have made that reaction the 'right one'. Turning Austin, especially in his HOME STATE, was just a disaster.

The ending wasn't as good as it could've been. I'd rather have seen a one-shot K.O from the chair rather then a beatdown. The impact would've been more sudden and shocking rather then multiple chairshots. I know it was designed to put Rock over as tough but I didn't buy it.

I'd say the only 5 star claibur matches the WWE has had are Savage/Steamboat, Bret/Owen WM and Summerslam, Shawn/Razor WM and Summerslam, Shawn/Mankind, Bret Austin WM 13, Shawn/Taker HITC, Angle-Benoit Rumble 03, WM XX triple threat, and the recent Shawn/Angle WM match which I consider to be the third best WM match of all time behind Bret/Owen and Bret/Austin.

It was one of the best moments in WM history is what it was. ;)

What do Angle's five years of mediocrity count for?

Kurt Angle 2001-early 2003..best overall wrestler in North America. God if he wouldn't have had that neck injury, I say he was well on his way to surpassing Michaels of 94-97.

I'd say Shawn Michaels is this generation's Ric Flair. This year alone he has had a WWE PPV MOTYC against Angle and the Raw MOTY so far against Benjamin. And btw, the HHH-HBK match from the last Raw in '03 was not overrated at all. It was an EXCELLENT match that was Raw's match of the year. The amount of great and classic matches that this man has had in his career is remarkable. Not to mention the fact that he can play ANY role. Like someone mentioned before, his character changed so much from cocky heel, boyhood dream babyface, etc...and Michaels pulls it all off.

Michaels is a HORRIBLE face. Triple H is boring now and can never be a face again in his current character.

Angle's face work was ok, in my opinion. Of the three, he's easily the most Flair like.
