Guest Report post Posted May 18, 2002 I know that it never happened, but was it supposed to at Wrestle Mania 4? I was a big fan of The Million Dollar Man, even at 12 years old, because I was sick of Hogan always winning. I thought this well before I discovered the polictics. Did Hogan use clout to stop DiBiase from gaining the title?
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted May 18, 2002 Did Hogan use clout to stop DiBiase from gaining the title? No. DiBiase was promised the title at WM4, but it wasn't Hogan's fault this time. On SNME, the same night Andre won the belt, Savage was supposed to win the I-C belt back form HTM. HTM refused to job the title, even saying that he would show up on NWA TV with the belt. So Vince let HTM keep the title, and let Savage win the WM4 tournament instead. DiBiase I think was to get a shot at Savage at SummerSlam, but it was changed to the Megapowers-Megabucks match that we got, and THAT may or may not have been because of Hogan. Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Seeing that Hogan had an issue with them two (andre/dibiase) for screwing him out of the title at the M.Event & WM4, that's why the match was made. And 2nd. If if is his fault, I doubt it. I personally believe he didn't give a rats ass who was champion at WMV, as long as he was going to win it. Final point, remember how NOT ME over Dibiase was about a year later? Damn ,they gave Zues a push and not Dibiase in 1989, that's some sorry ass shit. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Ted's career kind of died after jobbing at Wrestlemania 4 and again at Summerslam 88. He was never put into a proper program with Savage after he won the title. If I was the bookerman back then I would have given Savage a face run with the title until Wrestlemania 5 where he successfully defends the title against DiBiase. After that the mega powers explode and Hogan/Savage is signed for Wrestlemania 5, live from the Skydome.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 He was never put into a proper program with Savage after he won the title. He and Savage had an extensive feud all over the country. Unfortunately, since there wasn't as much TV time in the 80's as there is now, the feud was never really publicized. It was more of a house show thing. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Exactly. He wasn't put into a proper program with Savage that would have given him a lot of TV time. Instead, my feeling is that Hogan wanted the title back after Savage's popularity skyrocketed. He conned, talked, or did whatever to make Vince put the title back on him at Wrestlemania 5. the wwe pulled off the angle in a year but my two year plan would have seen savage stay champ for two years before finally dropping the belt to hogan in a face vs. face match at wrestlemania 6. Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted May 22, 2002 2 Year title reign woulda been very....odd. I mean, it's kinda hard to keep them both face when they have to break up forcing a feud. (like matt was the default heel whenthe hardyz kinda split last year). As long as we didn't see a ME with Andre or a tournament, I was cool with it.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Think about it though. If Savage had held the title for two years after WM4 then he would be too busy defending his title to team with Hogan. Hogan could have spent the next 2 years feuding with fat guys and winning while savage could have had some decent feuds over the title.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 I think it would have been a change if Dibiase was the WWF Champion, because it would have been weird to see the crowds reaction if he won it and when he was over would he land up becoming a face. Thanks.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted May 22, 2002 It would have been cool for him to get the title and I would have loved to have seen the reaction of all fans at Wrestlemania 4 if he had walked out with the belt.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Yeah, that's what I mean I mean imagine being there and all of a sudden Dibiase leaves as the WWF Champion and the show goes off the air, that would have been such a shocker. Thanks.
Guest RetroRob215 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 I agree with Drury. The 80's were always about the "good guy" going over. No one would know how to react if DiBiase won.
Guest Drury37 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 It's nice to see someone agreeing with me tonight,Dames7 told me that my rants aren't very good at all.So it is nice to see someone agreeing with me and I do wonder how people would react to Dibiase winning the WWF Title? Thanks.
Guest alfdogg Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Depending on what city he won the title in, there could have been riots.

Guest Drury37 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Depending on what city he won the title in, there could have been riots. Yeah,I could picture there being riots in Atlantic City.I am sure that people would have been throwing trash into the ring if Dibiase won and that would have been crazy.Maybe if he would have became WWF Champion,Virgil would have became a face and win the WWF Title!!! Thanks.
Guest franchise632 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 The 80's were always about the "good guy" going over. No one would know how to react if DiBiase won. Except for the 18 months where the Honky Tonk Man went over everynight with is IC title reign. Although I would agree that for a until just recently the heel never left Wrestlemania with the World Heavyweight title.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Only 1 or 2 times before 1996 has a heel winning the final match on the card (NOT NECISCARILY THE MAIN FUCKIN EVENT)
Guest Report post Posted May 23, 2002 You know, when Andre handed Dibiasse the title after The Main Event, he wasn't stripped until the next weekend on TV. There is a tape of the arena card the next night (I think in NJ) where Dibiasse teamed with Andre I believe and went against Hogan and Bigelow. Ted had the belt and was announced as the champion. Guest Risk Report post Posted May 23, 2002 I wouldn't call Matt a breaking up the Hardys a "heel" turn.

Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Hence I said Default heel, because he dumped Lita for about 2 weeks and cheated to pin her on Raw.

Guest converge241 Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Damn ,they gave Zues a push and not Dibiase in 1989, that's some sorry ass shit. speaking of Zeus and aborted main events, WM6 was almost Hogan - Zeus. How scary is that?

Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 31, 2002 Dibiase as a heel champ could've gotten massive heat. People talk about how over HTM was with the IC title. I'm sure if Dibiase had the WWF title he would've had HTM's heat 3-fold.
