Lion's den match

Recommended Posts

Guest Nevermortal

I was watching Summerslam '98 today and I thought the Lion's Den Match between Owen & Shamrock was awesome, and I wouldn't mind seeing it again, but who could use it? Shamrock had a legit reason, but do you think they could resurrect it for a feud today? If not, I'll always have my dream Lion's Den match - Shamrock vs. Angle.

*<3's Shamrock*

I think it's one of those matches catered to a certain wrestler, just like an Inferno Match is a Kane staple, Casket is a Taker one, etc...

I so want Shamrock back ... *sigh*

That match was good as a novelty and for what it was, but not much else. Take away Owen's greatness and you have a contrived gimick match with little room for creativity, or movement, for that matter. Maybe they could do it if the Benoit/Angle feud ever happens again, which is not very likely.

Ditto. IMO, I thought he was better as a heel as well.

Yella yea man 8), the kool thing about Shamrock is he could get over as anything. He was a very strong face, and was a hated heel too. Damnit .... out of the old dinosaurs Vince brought in, why couldn't be bring a younger one with actual name value AND talent? errrrrrr...

There's a great possibility that Shamrock will return... I just hope it's before Angle leaves to train for the Olympics because I would LOVE to see a match between the two

People tend to forget the bad things when discussing wrestlers who they want to see back in the WWF (lot of that going around lately...) and Shamrock is no exception. As an in-ring worker, he was never incredible, and was always being carreed by his fellow muscateers, Mankind and Rock. Despite winning King of the Ring, he never really got to the levle of popularity they seemed to expect of him, and was eventually given a heatless run as a heel in the corperation, the peak being a tag team title run along with the Big Bossman (who only got heel heat in the way X-Pac gets heel heat) and the debut of his "sister" Ryan (and we all know how THAT angle went) didn't serve to help matters.

In fact, the last thing of note he did before leaving was partake in a borring feud that managed to kill Chris Jericho's heat upon entering the promotion faster than any of the management wanted to.

And so on.

Yeah, I kinda got tired of Shamrock, too. But I wouldn't mind a Lesnar/Shamrock match, just once.

Hope y'all realize that Shamrock won't be in the WWE until:

1.) The Jarrett's new promotion falls apart

Or

2.) Vince buys his contract out.

But yeah... I'd love to see Shamrock vs. Angle... ANKLE LOCK WARS!

Noone is hiding away Shamrock's flaws, but he did have more good to him overall than bad, and he was a wwf creation, I think he'd have a better time being pushed.

While I don't agree at all about Shamrock having "more good than bad to him" I will agree that he's a WWF creation, and if they were willing to re-sign Goldust and actually push him, Shamrock has every bit as much of a chance.

As for Shamrock in an Iron Man Match - Ugg. I don't think the guy was ever confortable going twenty minutes, let alone an hour.

That wasn't Shamrcok's fault. He got put into a fued with heat-vacume Blackman. That reminds me......wasn't the Iron Circle match based on a real story from Shamrock?

For anyone that wants Shammy back the WWF was negotiating with him but only wanted to come back on a part time contract and the WWF didn't want to do it. If he becomes a big star in the Jarret fed they will buy him out though......

...just like an Inferno Match is a Kane staple...

Isn't Kane like 0-3 in those matches?

to Taker - April '98 (Unforgiven)

to Taker - March '99 (Radom Raw before WM where Taker burned a stuffed bear that made Vince break down and cry)

to HHH - September '99 (That night where HHH had to win 3 of 5 matches to be in the 6 man title match...He lost to Big Show in a Chokeslam Challenge, Lost to Mideon and Viscera in a caskat match, beat Kane in an inferno match, Mankind in a Boiler Room Brawl and Rock in a strap match)

I guess it's kind of like Mick Foley being known for Hell in a Cell matches even though he's never actually been victorious in one.

What were the stips a Lion's Den match? Not knowing anything about the match other than the name, it sounds like something Jericho would do...

The lion's den was basically a UFC rip-off. The cage was the same design of a Octagon. So, it was pretty much a Submission match in a Octagon.

Anyone remember the Dungeon match at Fully Loaded with these two? Here's my question...How did Owen and Ken keep from fighting if they were in the same house? and...did Helen make Chocolate chip cookies and milk for Owen and Ken after the match?
