Guest fouronthefloor77 Posted February 13, 2002 Report Posted February 13, 2002 How many people have seen old tapes of GCW?In my opinion this is what a wrestling program should be.GCW is the shit in my opioion because watching old tapes of it really made me appreciate WRESTLING again,It didn't have 20-minute rambling promos, instead it had quick and to the point two-minute promos,It didn't have five minutes of entrances and a two minute match,It instead started by introducing the wrestlers already in the ring and well worked 5-10 minute matches.Gordon Solie was so good at getting the angles over with the audience,he actually added a bit of believability to the show.GCW has the distinction of being the first nationally telivised cable wrestling show.
Guest yunro Posted February 22, 2002 Report Posted February 22, 2002 I remember when we first got cable and being able to see Georgia Championship Wrestling, soon to be World Championship Wrestling. Great old school stuff, Tommy Rich, Buzz Sawyer, Mr. Wrestling II. And my apologies to Jim Ross, but Gordon Solie was the greatest announcer of all time. When you listened to him you felt you were watching a real sport, and he got the angles over without being over the top.
Guest gwf0704 Posted February 22, 2002 Report Posted February 22, 2002 I totally agree that GCW was the best with great buildup to matches at the Omni and IMO the best wrestling announcer ever. I would learn more about wrestling moves listening to Solie and it seemed that he was generally interested in what was going on in the ring. But the best part was that he was impartial calling a match and never took sides during an interview and, best of all, didnt have to resort to hysterical screaming all throughout the matches.
Guest Sykotic2002 Posted March 2, 2002 Report Posted March 2, 2002 Gordon Solie did a great job when announcing when the Freebirds piledrove Ted Dibiase on the floor. He was very calm and made you believe that Dibiase would never walk again. Also loved the angle when Muraco attacked Gordon and Piper saved him and turned face.
