Heels and faces 2k2

Recommended Posts

Over the years, the true aspects of "heels" and "babyfaces" have been diminished.  They have taken a more "theatrical" role.  Being interpreted as "good guys" and "bad guys."  Originally a heel was a constant Rulebreaker, while a face was a straight shooter who didn't cheat much.  I think it is time to start using the old definition with new names.

Here are the new names that should be made, IMO:

Scrupulous-A wrestler who only cheats 25% of the time.

Tweener-Only cheats 50%.  Only cheats if he needs to.

Rulebreaker-Cheats 75% of the time.  Has no regard for any rules.

These "alignments" DON'T determine if you are a "fan favorite" or not.  Any one of these classes can have fans or not.

Thoughts?  Opinions?  Ideas?

So, according to you, everybody should cheat at least 25% of the time? I'm a little tired of this ridiculous notion that any heel-face divide is counterproductive. There are no organisations anywhere in the United States that have ever done this. Why? Because it wouldn't work. Granted, it'd be different, but why change something that is working. There needs to be a clean line between faces and heels, with a slight shade of grey creeping in sometimes. Otherwise, the fans are completely indifferent to what's happening in the ring. And don't say ECW did it, because there was a heel-face divide there too, it just wasn't as pronounced as other feds. I just don't think that an idea like this would be beneficial, to the organisation or to the wrestlers themselves.

ECW did it.  It doesn't matter, really, "heels" and "faces" aren't even real concepts.  Look at the Hardy Girlz.  They cheat all the time and no one cares.  Seems boring having "good guy" vs "bad guy."  Too boring.  I'd like to see "person" vs "person."

*Sigh* ECW did it? I don't know if that was sarcasm, so I'll assume you were serious. Would you say that RVD's 'Mr. Monday Night' persona was a heel? Damn right it was. When the WWF 'invaded' for a short time with Lawler and Cornette, were they heels? Yep. The Network were heels. Taz was supposed to be the heel in his feud with Sabu, but he became popular because of his gimmick. The thing is, ECW was just the same as WCW and the WWF when it came to 'heels' and 'faces', Heyman just knew what buttons to press with the fans. As for person vs. person...I agree, but you need something more than that unless you want complete apathy from the fans.

People got heel and face HEAT but weren't heels and faces.  They would get positive and negative heat, depending on differant factors.  The only REAL "heels" were the Dudley Boyz, the Impact Players, and maybe the Network.  They TRIED to piss fans off, the others simply had characters who liked and dislike certain things.

Fans COULD cheer to characters they relate to.  They could boo someone if they knew someone they didn't like acted like the character.

My alignments shouldn't be gospel, but I think they are a good rough estimate.

Heels and Faces wrestle differently, no?  The face gets the momentous comeback while the Heel says 'this town sucks'.

Austin is always regarded as the anti-face, but really, that should have only applied to him during his transitioning period (Up to WM 13). After that he wrestled as a face, he acted as a face.  When he flips off the crowd it used to be a sign of disrespect, now it's a sign of appreciation...

It doesn't matter how much attitude the Wwf had, it was always about Good vs. Evil.  Good = Who the fans cheered.  Evil = Who the fans booed.  The Wwf worked their storylines and matches around that.  Never once did they say 'Well, Austin acts like a heel so he should wrestle like one' when he was a face.  Face Austin has always wrestled as a face.

I think there should be more depth into the characters.  I cannot remember the last character in the Wwf who had layers.  Wrestling is an art.  Storyline writing is too.
