Guest bravesfan Report post Posted May 20, 2002 Maybe this should go into the "Fantasy Booking" section, whatever, I don't really care. Several posters, including "moi", are displaying their displeasure at the roadblock pushes of several wrestlers (Jericho, Booker, Angle)... let's try to put a stop to this with the next PPV. IMO, the KOTR tournament should be revamped to include several of the Main Eventers, ala the years when the Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Owen Hart and Ahmed Johnson (all lower-tier ME'ers) were in the qualifying matches, or even won it. So how about including a stipulation that the winner of the KOTR move on to Fully Loaded to challenge the champ? No more #1 contender singles match, but a tournament where ANYONE (well, the bookers will decide that) could take it, raising the fans' ire, cemented by great Flair or McMahon promos on the past KOTR champs. Not only will the actual tournament gain some needed credibility back (still hurting with a past of King Mabel and King Billy Gunn), we could raise some mis-treated mid-carders (Edge, Booker, Goldust, RVD, Eddie, D'lo, Regal and Brock) up to a higher level, helping out the struggling Main Event pools in both brands. Sure, this will be dependent on how the HIGH-AND-MIGHTY Main Eventers take it (UT, HHH, etc.), because their status or heat could be affected by this new type of tourney, but with risk comes reward...a refreshing TV product. Secondly, this could also lead to some great returns and great buildups.... Ex: RVD wins his match against , but gets "injured" in the process by an interfering Eddie Guerrero, ala 1-2-3 Kid in 1994 KOTR. RVD returns the favor, so the Eddie/RVD fued rolls on to the blow-off match at Summerslam in a gimmick match (ladder would be best). In the meantime, RVD's next round opponent, let's say Kurt Angle, boasts about the fact that he supposedly "injured RVD in the backstage and left him crippled", keeps on boasting until a replacement is announced by Linda McMahon....enter Chris Benoit. They go at it for 15-20 minutes, Angle prevails by outside interference, but Benoit returns to a great reaction from the crowd. Further interference by Benoit later in the PPV can bring him into the Main Event even faster... Just a few thoughts. Any comments or further ideas?
Guest Report post Posted May 20, 2002 How about this idea... they do the old fashioned, wrestle 4 times in one night to win style tournament... maybe throw in a tag title, I-C title and World Title match between rounds to add a little more to the PPV, I don't know, but anyway... why not break away from the old formula a little bit... and have Smackdown and Raw each send 3 contenders.. then in the first round have it be Smackdown vs RAW, but instead of having a mid-carder win, give the win to Chris Jericho... who, after wininng 4 matches can become the King, Chris Jericho... this would give him a little bit of credibility again and if he can win without cheating it might give him the ability to do more than be the Y2Jobber... the final match could be an epic encounter between him and RVD, and even if it was decided with a little bit of Benoit interference, it would let Jericho chase the title while Benoit fought RVD. Tag matches on TV between the Canadian Chrises and RVD & HHH (who will have the title by KOTR at the latest, I bet) would elevate RVD by puttign him in main event programs more frequently and when their respective teams break up we could see Triple H try to hold RVD under the glass ceiling, while Jericho and Benoit feud over the title in the most athletic main events since Hart - Michaels... it might even be nice to see a 3 or 4 month series where they trade the title back and forth once or twice to really keep them neck and neck - it could be a time where the title changes hands a lot but actually means something.. because both men would fight hard just for the honor of holding the 20 pounds of tin... each match decided by a split second, making the matches as competitive as olympic sprinting... Guest Brian Report post Posted May 20, 2002 Three times in one night is seven matches, which is too much to expect anything good out of. The best tournaments are with four guys coming in. KOTR is almost always a big dissapointment.
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted May 20, 2002 They should make it more prestigous by having more upper card wrestlers (who can actually put on an entertaining) match entering. I mean, Crash got to the semi finals in 2000 for christs sake. I'd have the final 8 as Booker, RVD, Angle, Benoit, Edge, Brock, Storm and Eddy, with a face Booker winning it. Guest Risk Report post Posted May 20, 2002 My ideas: Have eight wrestlers, IC level wrestlers, eight from each brand. The wrestlers I would choose are... Rob Van Dam Eddie Guerrero Brock Lesnar Raven Bubba Ray Dudley Booker T Goldust Deacon Bautista Rico Reverend D-Von Lance Storm Randy Orton Bob Holly Christian Val Venis
Guest Report post Posted May 20, 2002 you know what might be a cool way to elevate a guy unexpectedly? have someone who makes it into the tournament get injured and stage a battle royal at the beginning of the PPV to fill the spot - someone like, say, lance storm could win... and make it all the way to the finals.. doesn't have to win the whole thing, just upset someone, and he's got a little credibility. Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 20, 2002 There's some solid ideas here but do any of you think the WWF..er..E will do the right thing. The tournament will suck shit and the winner will have absolutely no heat. The next day, we'll say how happy we are whoever won it but be upset about terrible booking. I have no faith in the WWE. Get well, Benoit!
Guest Ozymandias Report post Posted May 20, 2002 Hogan v. Austin NEEDS to headline this show. There's no fucking way the Orange Goblin (not HHH) will last 'til Summerslam.
Guest Report post Posted May 20, 2002 I-have-an-idea.... In-the-main-event...... "Hollywood"Hulk-Hogan-Vs-The-Butcher. Sounds-good-right? I-mean,-Hogan-Vs-Taker-was-such-a-BLOCKBUSTER-main-event. (Sarcasm)
Guest Ozymandias Report post Posted May 20, 2002 Better yet, how about after the tournament Hogan and the Butcher fight TOGETHER against all 8 KotR Tournament members in a 3 level cage. It ends with Ed Leslie pinning RVD. WHATCHA' GONNA DO??!!
Guest Report post Posted May 20, 2002 I ended up getting so detailed with my plan that it really has to go in the "fantasy booking" forum. So look for it there, or something. Basically the same idea as many of you are coming up with. Use big names in the tournament to make it legit. Make the first round matches be all epic or classic sounding...so just imagine how much better the semis and finals are going to be, mr ppv buyer!
Guest bcu1979 Report post Posted May 20, 2002 I predict there will be another one of those thrilling TRIPLE MAIN EVENTS that the WWF loves to have to make sure Triple H, Austin and Undertaker all stay happy. It looks like it will be Triple H/Taker, Austin/Flair and Hogan/Vince. Does this look familiar or what? It's a good thing they had this split so they could elevate all those young guys into main event slots. I predict yet another Angle/Edge match because they don't have anything else for either of them to do. I predict Chris Jericho won't even have a match on the card. But he'll get to come to the ring and cut a promo about how unfair this is. Triple H will then come out to the ring do his roid rage pose and Jericho will run away scared. Oh, you wanted positive thoughts. Sorry but I just don't see anyone perched on that next level this year to make a big splash in KOTR. They still haven't elevated the people who were ready for the next level two years ago. RVD is the only guy who's popular enough to make something of the win and I don't see him winning. He's not a "WWE guy." It would be too much too soon for Brock Lesnar. I guess they could start pushing Test again for a couple weeks and Michael Cole can talk about how he's the MVP of the Alliance....err......Brand Extension.
