New Virtua Fighter and HotD to appear on

Recommended Posts

...no home consoles. Arcade-exclusive.

Stolen from insidepulse...who stole it from the Magic Box

Perhaps as a reaction to a hurting arcade market in Japan, Sega has announced that they currently have no plans to bring House of the Dead 4 or Virtua Fighter 5 to any consoles. Both games run on the brand new Lindbergh system. The Lindbergh arcade system powered by Imagination Technologies' high-end PowerVR graphic processor which is not based on any next generation system. Shocking news that probably hurts those of us in the US most where the arcade scene has been all but dead for years now. Hopefully Sega will reconsider.

I think VF4 did alright in sales, although I still see tons of those VF4 Evos unsold everywhere. Although it seems PS2 owners were more interested in the Tekken series (which still isn't as popular as it once was), and X-Box owners are mostly satisfied with DoA (on a related note, 1up confirms DoA4 for the XB 360 launch. Shocking).

So one of the last decent Sega development teams slips into irrelevence...

Even though Sonic Team owed more to Sega Technical Institute than Naka would like to admit (arguably the two best Sonic games, Sonic 2 and 3/Knuckles were mostly their work), Sonic Rush hopefully will be good. I'd like Shadow the Hedgehog to be dragged out back and shot, though.

It will be ironic if the new HotD movie is direct-to-DVD, as it should be.

Sega is so dumb. Although I don't think Magic Box is a very good source so I'm not worried yet.

If true, it'll at least be nice not to have to hear all the posers go on about VF anymore.

I'd expect Japan to see it, because this side of the Pacific the new VFs have gotten lukewarm receptions, but seems weird it won't even be on Japanese home consoles.

Since I mentioned it above--

DOA4 slated for Xbox 360 launch in Japan

Temco's anticipated fighting game is scheduled to ship alongside Microsoft's next-generation console across the Pacific; Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2 now official.

In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, Tecmo executive and Team Ninja chief Tomonobu Itagaki revealed that Dead or Alive 4 is scheduled to be a launch title for the Xbox 360 and will likely ship later this year in Japan. However, he did not specify a territory, leaving the possibility open that it could be a launch title in Japan but not the US and/or Europe. As of press time, American Tecmo and Microsoft reps could not confirm that the game would launch alongside the 360 in the US.

In his interview with Famitsu, Itagaki leaked a few new details about Dead or Alive 4. The main character in DOA4 will be the opera singer Helena, who has now become the head of the evil DOATEC organization that Kasumi and the other ninjas fought against in the previous installments. Itagaki also revealed that the new blond fighter Elliot is a disciple of Gen-Fu, the elderly Chinese master who has been appearing in the DOA series since its original release. However, it isn't known whether Gen-Fu will be appearing in DOA4, since he stopped fighting after DOA3.

DOA4 will feature more than 20 characters, including both new and old fighters. Itagaki also revealed that the developers are taking a bold step and changing many moves of the old characters, such as taking out existing moves to make room for new attacks.

"The fighting styles of the characters won't change without changing around their main moves. It's a real risk. This isn't something that's small as adjustments to the game’s balance," commented Itagaki. "Up until now, we were chained to the series' existing framework. But time had passed, and by the period that we were working on Beach Volleyball, we felt that it [the framework] didn't matter any more. We will be pursuing [to create] a game that plays more like a Dead or Alive rather than a game that plays like a fighting game."

Itagaki also revealed that DOA4 will feature a new "slow shutter" engine that purposely blurs the characters to make their actions look natural when they move at extremely high speeds. "This kind of effect isn't possible with current consoles. By blurring the characters, we can express movements that can't be shown at a frame rate of 60 frames per second," said Itagaki.

DoA3 is one of the top selling Japanese X-Box titles to date (it may be the top one even). I'd expect XBV to have done well, too. Of course, a top selling X-Box title in Japan means squat, but that seems to indicate they'd be foolish to not put it out right at the start.

And, hey, they're doing Xtreme Beach Volleyball 2 afterall, Anya. :)

We will be pursuing [to create] a game that plays more like a Dead or Alive rather than a game that plays like a fighting game.

What the heck does that mean? 30% more fanservice?

Now Famitsu is saying the same thing, about them not being on console. A shame, I really want to play HOTD4.

DOA 4 looks lame. It looks like an Xbox 1 game and that series is getting old. I think IU played DOAU for about 5 minutes.

It's kind of weird that Sega won't release VF5 on consoles given how well VF4 did. Even in the US it sold the 400K to be a greatest hit, which is pretty good for a fighter recently. That's too bad, I always like playing good fighters, and there'll be no way to play VF5 now since it sure as hell won't show up in US arcades.

If true, it'll at least be nice not to have to hear all the posers go on about VF anymore.

Heh who knows, they might still go on about it and it's amazing 'depth'. People still talk about how awesome Tobal 2 was, and I'm sure most of them never played it.

Yeah, I don't know how the US community could survive this. They'd almost have to get a group together to pool money and buy the arcade.
