Raven vs. lawler

Recommended Posts

Guest Redhawk

When Raven first came out and started ripping Lawler a new one, I thought: "This could lead to Lawler finally getting out of the commentator position." I mean, when you think about it, Lawler -- the supposed heel announcer -- hadn't made a heelish statement all night. He agreed with JR about EVERYTHING, from Undertaker cheating to Stone Cold being a God. It was all set up: Get an actual heel in Raven next to JR, and Lawler can go to Smackdown. Or hell, make it a 3-man booth like WCW.

Then I remembered that they were in Memphis. And you saw what happened next. Looking back, I would have been okay with the Raven/Lawler situation turning into a short feud, but a ONE NIGHT feud? Jesus.

And if you're wondering about the countout finish, here's the reason: Lawler couldn't do the piledriver, because they're not supposed to do them anymore. And as we saw from his 6-inch dropkick, he wasn't coming off the top rope with the fistdrop anytime soon. Hence the countout. My question: Why even book that crap in the first place?

Simple.  Lawler is an idiot, his fans are idiots, and he always goes over in his hometown.  He's an egomaniacal leecher.

Lawler never came off the top with the fistdrop, he always does it from the 2nd turnbuckle.  And yeah, he can still do it, he does the move all the time at indy shows around here.  And he's not an idiot; Jerry Lawler is a very smart man.  He's made millions of dollars in a highly competitive and unstable industry, and managed to keep himself in the spotlight on an international level despite having limited ring skills at his age.  (And yes, Lawler used to be able to get up and GO in his youth.)

That being said, the instant Raven sat down I saw where the angle was going, they do something similar every time they're in Memphis.  And yeah, the finish sucked.  I mean come on, do we really need to do a lame countout to protect f'n RAVEN?  Just let King pin him and get it over with.

I really don't think they wouldn't have allowed Lawler to do his piledriver, because he's used it quite a few times since they placed the ban on it around 2000.

As for Raven and Lawler...before you start complaining, I say you should wait until the next show to see where it's going, cuz tonight I got the vibe that this little program they started tonight was only the beginning. If I'm wrong, I want McMahon shot...or stoned.

What about the people who don't give a fuck about Lawler being in his hometown? What about the people that don't give a damn about Lawler period? I wasn't even paying attention to RAW, but I figured out that they were in Tennessee when Lawler was booked into a match. If they want to do that shit with the cameras off, great. However, the rest of the people who don't live in Memphis and don't consider Lawler a hometown hero shoudln't be subjected to seeing him get time on the mic as well as in the ring. Isn't it odd that everytime Lawler is in Memphis, he has to fight someone and win? I don't get into fighst whenever I go to NY. Whose intelligence are they trying  to insult? The people who don't turn the channel during that shit? It's one thing for Raven to come to the announcer's table and make ture statements, it's another to brush those statements off and have Lawle go over because he's in his hometown. Plain and simple, Lawler sucks. Get his screaming ass the hell offof the tv. While I was admiriing the asses of Trish and Jacqueline, I don't need Lawler yelling about the shit every time he gets the impulse to. There was a pretty good match going on in there, but Lawler wants to scream at the top of his lungs like some kind of asshole. Somebody needs to test his ass for drugs instead of testing his son. Fuck Jerry Lawler and the horse he rode ino on. They are both similar. They are old, have served their purpose and aren't what they used to be; they're broken. Shot both of them.

Ok, this has been two days of WWE booking the wrong ass finishes over and over. HHH over Jericho, Regal over D-Lo, Taker over Hogan, ,Eddie over RVD. If the dinosaur Lawler went over the severely underutilized talent Raven, one of my all time favorites, I would stop watching for good. Oh wait, I already did.

You know it's sad, when, ECW's silent but violent Taz, is a better commentator than someone.  Lawler should feel shame.  Raven was right, he WAS a legend, he WAS the Flair of Memphis, now, he's a shell of a man who let some stupid CUNT run his life.

I don't think the wise-cracking, cliché-using, no-point-making Tazzzzzzzz is any better than Lawler. His jokes are terrible, he hardly calls moves anymore, and more and more he agrees with Cole. It's like a younger but equally pathetic version of JR and Lawler. Sure he doesn't go on and on about "puppies" and such, which is a plus, but he sure likes to call them big guys "studs". Hmmmm...

Methinks the Fed needs to do more than just replace its old wrestlers...

Putting him in a match is one thing, but why why why why why why WHY put him over Raven? It doesn't matter how far down the card he is, NOBODY should buy Lawler going over Raven, or anybody else in the WCWFe

And every single thing Raven said was true, and it's about time sombody called Lawler on that, especially Raven.

Why?  Who is Raven, what has he done in the WW(F)E to warrant protecting him?  Let's face it, Raven hasn't done anything great or important since 1998.  Yeah, he used to be great, but so what?  Lawler used to feud with Bret Hart, who was bigger and better than Raven could ever hope to be.  And 90% of WW(F)E's fans don't know, remember, or care.

Yes, but Raven is still a wrestler, while Lawler hasn't wrestled any since the Tazz feud (correct me if I'm wrong about that). And Raven has held more titles in WCWFe (even though they were Hardcore titles), and WCWFe tends to forget things that didn't happen there, and even some things that did. So once again, no matter how far down the card he is, Lawler shouldn't be going over Raven, or anybody else. If you must have him on commentary, then have him commentate, not wrestle.

EDIT: And yes, Raven may have not done anything great or important since 1998, but if you're going to make that argument against him, what important or great thing was Lawler doing in 1998, 99, 2000, 01, or this year?

And so what if he feuded with Bret Hart? Feuding with someone good doesn't make that person good.

I'll have to say I also despise the idea of Raven having to put Lawler over because they're in Memphis. Couldn't they do Lawler/Stasiak in a dark match or something? I'm sure it would've gotten an equal pop without making anyone look bad(Stasiak makes himself look bad). My reasoning is simple: I like Raven, I don't like Lawler.

And just to point out, Bret got stuck with a lot of crappy feuds. He's feuded with Pierre Oulette(decent wrestler, crap feud), with Hakushi(very good wrestler, but the feud had no point), and Isaac Yankem(no comment).
