Campaign 2008

You're trying to pass off speculation as fact.

And something tells me that when the Government buys into the banks, they won't be cashing out anytime soon.

I rest my case.

did you read the link? The decision of the feds to buy into smaller banks is imminent. Its going happen, not a question of if but when.

You missed my use of the term "LEADING DOWN THE PATH TO".

And I don't think it's "leading down the path", you retard. Acting like this is the first step to a socialist takeover (Which you're implying) is fucking moronic, since this is obviously a temporary measure and people are pissed off as it is with the entire situation. The only reason they let this go was due to how horrifyingly bad it would be if the company went under.

And something tells me that when the Government buys into the banks, they won't be cashing out anytime soon.

Funny, I thought Glenn Beck did all your thinking.

It's quite hilarious that after the last eight years of the Bush doctrine in place, when someone had the nerve to scream out "Facist" they are labeled a kook, yet as soon as there is a good chance a democrat is going to win the next election these same people are screaming "Socialist, Communist" from every open window of the nuthouse.

It goes both ways, you can't call someone a fool for doing one thing and then basically doing the same thing towards the other side.

If you want to point to the Bailout plan as evidence of Socialism then you can't with any common sense blame one party over the other, as the majorities of both parties support it, while a small number of each party oppose it. So you aren't really going to find any answers in this by running to one party over the other.

The biggest opposition is really coming from the far left like Nader as well as the more traditional conservatives.

I really dunno why I decided to even comment on things in those youtube clips had to say.....

Oh and just to end any discussion of the BULLSHIT A.C.O.R.N. "scandal" the right-wing is peddling in another last-ditch effort to cause voter suppression.....

Yes, the source is biased, but before you waste your breath telling me that, please present something to dissprove it.

There have been members of ACORN who have plead guilty and gone to jail for committing voter fraud. And its not just one or two random rogue people either, so it seems like an issue they have. If they aren't encouraging it, they at least aren't doing much to stop it from happening.

But hey, its low income discrimination to say ACORN is committing voter fraud.

and here..

Washington Post

The submitted voter cards included addresses and names that do not exist in Nevada, duplicate registrations, names culled from telephone books and names of Dallas Cowboys players, an investigator for the Secretary of State alleged in his affidavit for a search warrant.

One ex-employee of ACORN reached by the state investigator told him she began making up names for her forms on days when it was too hot to work outside. ACORN canvassers are paid by the hour. Ex-employees also said they were expected to collect 20 complete forms a shift or risk probation and termination, the investigator said in his affidavit.

that sounds like a situation ripe for fraud and abuse...

"It is very difficult to ascribe any other motive to the activities of ACORN other than to swamp the system with registrations cards" that range from illegible to being drawn from names from telephone listings or other public directories, said RNC Chief Counsel Sean Cairncross. Cairncross spoke Tuesday during a telephone press conference on another ACORN voter drive in northwest Indiana that local news accounts report is under review by elections officers.

The ACORN drives, he said, "point to a lack of control in this organization" and "a willingness to go out and do this relentlessly."

Please, Mr. Hardy Boy, how did you break the case in the "Mystery of the Bad Nut", when so many others apparently haven't? What's your proof?

Doubtless you've heard the smears by now: that ACORN is committing "voter fraud," on behalf of Obama, in hotly contested swing states. The media have been all too happy to pass that garbage on, without bothering to note that, in fact, the organization attempts to authenticate every registration form its workers submit and by law they must turn in every form to election officials --- even if they find a registration to be fraudulent when they call the phone number submitted on the form, or if the forms are otherwise suspect or incomplete.

Nice job there, Sherlock.

Yeah, the site isn't all that honest. Looking at the Freep Article, ACORN isn't portrayed nearly as bad. And as noted above, they legally have to turn in all voter registrations, even flagging them and telling them beforehand. Plus, the website also has the wrong number of falsely registered people (They say 2,000 out of 5,000 were legal, but in the article only about 1,500 are fraudulent). Another fun thing is the New Mexico one, which the case was apparently dropped due to lack of evidence.

Do you ever fucking fact check your sources, Marvin?

Hell, one of the prosecutors in the Washington case outright said that it wasn't an attempt to influence an election, but just to get paid. And again, I point to the fact that they attempt to confirm all applications and flag bad ones. The problem is that, by law, they legally have to hand them all in, even if they know they are bad.

I've never thought of ACORN having a specific party affiliation. I've just thought of them as being a negative presence in the U.S. election scene. If there's anything that we can't afford in a country that already has zero confidence in our political figures, it's a fraudulent election. If they're indeed required by law to submit 'bad' registrations, then let's change the law and move on with our lives. This is the kind of B.S. that detracts from campaigns, rather than focusing on actual policy ideals.

But let's be honest, Nightwing. If it appeared that ACORN was registering fake voters in a primarily Republican manner, you would be yelling about it with righteous indignation.

"I'm not sure what she brings to the ticket other than she's a woman and a conservative," said Faye Palin

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/r...can_race/2008...

Funny story (well, sorta): I live in Minneapolis, which has a pretty even split of liberals and conservatives - in my social circles, at least. So, I'm used to negative talk about Palin. However, I went to Nashville last weekend for a wedding. At the bachelor party, which was occurring at a sports bar at the same time as the VP debate (which they were showing on some of the TVs), I called Palin a "right wing idiot." I've never had a group of guys argue SO hard with me to the contrary. I had forgotten I was in the South, which is a very different atmosphere.

One other thing: is it just me, or does every supporter of Palin (male or otherwise) seem to mention her attractiveness as a reason for liking her?

If there are fake registrations being turned in (for whatever reason), isn't it the county clerk/secretary of state's responsibility to make sure that these people aren't able to vote?

When minors purchase alcohol, businesses are the ones that get in trouble (losing liquor licenses, etc.). Is that a fair comparison?

They obviously have some organizational problems, this can't be denied. More accountability towards false applications is needed, along with a better system to make sure they actually go out and get good applications is needed.

But the fact of the matter is, the "fraud" being decried here isn't done deliberately by the organization, and they seem to be picking it out themselves beforehand. They have to turn in all applications, no matter what is on them, by law. They aren't mentioning that these applications weren't just handed on, but were flagged for possible voter fraud beforehand. Republicans and idiots like Marvin are overstating something that isn't nearly as big a problem as they are making it out to be in an attempt to make this a "fraudulent election".

But let's be honest, Nightwing. If it appeared that ACORN was registering fake voters in a primarily Republican manner, you would be yelling about it with righteous indignation.

No, I'd likely attack the Dems, too. Look at my posts earlier in the thread, and you'll see I did my fair share of defending John McCain. This is obviously a weak ploy using people's lack of knowledge of the electoral system to try and illegitimate a candidate, which is absolute bullshit. It's the same as the Michael Moore "Bush wasn't really elected" sort of bullshit.

It deserves righteous indignation because it's manipulating what you were talking about: confidence in the electoral process. That hurts everyone for little gain in the long-term.

I hardly think the number one threat to this country right now are either the socialists (all 7 of them) or the Democratic Party.

<raises eyebrow> So you are admitting that socialists and the Democratic Party are, indeed, threats to America?

Thank you.

Trying too hard, Marn.

--------------------------------------------

How did I feel about Sen. McCain stating “You probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this.”

Well Senator, I actually did. I like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent person. I have a bachelor degree in Political Science from Tennessee State, so I try to keep myself up to date with current affairs. I have a Master degree in Legal Studies from Southern Illinois University, a few years in law school, and I am currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration from the University of Memphis. In defense of the Senator from Arizona I would say he is an older guy, and may have made an underestimation of my age. Honest mistake. However, it could be because I am a young African-American male. Whatever the case may be it was somewhat condescending regardless of my age to make an assumption regarding whether I was knowledgeable about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

From MSNBC.

You know what really scares me as I re-watched the debate and the sound-bites afterward. Obama and McCain were nominated basically as a referendum on Iraq and the war against radical Islam. The government issue was the last thing on anyone's plate at the time and now look where we are. Do either one of them have a real good plan that's going to work and get us out of this mess? I'm not convinced. Maybe it's because I'm so angry at both of them I'm ready to just throw them all out and start over, but neither one of them make me feel like they're going to solve this. Especially Obama, his "I'm not raising taxes on 95% of you" could be his version of "Read My Lips."

And as far as I'm concerned, Bush seems to be just biding enough time to get out of office and let someone else slide in. Then if the market next summer or so just goes in the toilet totally then we can blame Obama or McCain. And before anyone says we'll blame Bush, most people will just point to whoever is running the show and tell them we don't care and what are you going to do about it now.

Inside the crowd at a John McCain rally is a weird and frightening place to be. As expected, he chose not to provide a single actual example of any of his "plans."

I wouldn't say that.

Both Obama and McCain have plans for Iraq which are readily available. Me and my friends at the NY Times prefer Obama's, but it's up to you to decide whichever one you think is better.

If the market tanks in the next year, Bush will be compared to Hoover for the rest of US history.

Does anyone do the vote by mail thing? I signed up for it when I registered in California since I don't have a car. I received my ballot yesterday.

I'm able to mail it in anytime between now and November 4th, or I can deliver it to a polling place on election day (defeats the purpose, eh?) or to a "vote mobile" at a variety of public libraries.

I'm certain I'm voting for Obama, but I haven't lived here too long and I still need to learn more when it comes to candidates for local office.

I'm trying to refer to the economy with that statement. I know both have said they have plans for Iraq, but I don't know if they have plans for the mess regarding the economy. Sorry that I wasn't more specific.

It entirely depends on how far we go into next year before we see an economy in the tank. During the Great Depression, the warning signs were evident during Coolidge's administration but nothing happened until Hoover took over. Unfair or not, Obama or McCain will be tarnished if they don't respond to that and help get us out of that jam if that happens.
