I'm curious to see what everybody's local scene, culturally, is planning for the day after the election. Case in point: most pubs/bars here in Toronto have "Obama Victory" parties scheduled for Wednesday if he wins but I have yet to see any for McCain. I guess voting demographic locally plays a big part but I just don't see huge celebrations anywhere in our country if McCain pulls it off.

I have looked at the other candidates. I don’t see any of them that have the fire in the belly. I don’t see any of them that actually believe in you, who actually is you, except Sarah Palin. So I’m going to pull the lever for John McCain and let the Lord sort it out. I want somebody that just, whose compass points north. Even though all these candidates think their compass points north, it doesn’t. It’s pointing east and some places it’s pointing south. In Barack Obama it is pointing south. I think the whole "Socialist" cry from the Campaign of McCain is just a cry of desperation. If all Obama is doing is looking to restore tax rates to what they were before Bush slashed them on the wealthy, basically to restore them to what they were under Clinton then I really don't see the problem. Last time I checked Rich people who owned businesses were doing just fine in the 1990s.

 

I think the McCain campaign is just stuck on the "spreading the wealth" comment and using it out of context, because they don't follow it up by actually explaining what Obama says he plans to do. Instead they just start to going into hyper overdrive about soclalism and the like.

 

If McCain were ahead in the polls, I doubt we would have ever heard the word "Socialism" from his campaign. It's desperation, plain and simple.

Can we stop assuming that all rich people are automatically "Hard working, and have earned their way to the top"? What about the families that made their wealth generations ago and just keep passing the money down? I'm willing to bet there's quite a few people who have inherited their wealth and don't do much of anything for themselves. Once you have the wealth it's pretty damn hard to lose it all unless you're complete morons...Of which there are plenty.

 

Not to mention, that people born into wealthy families have ridiculous advantages over the middle class guy busting his balls to try and get there. They don't have to worry about paying for Higher Education and are usually sent to schools systems that also have large advantages over most poorer cities...like private schools and such. It's much easier for a wealthy kid to make something of himself then a poor one.

Well yeah, of course rich kids have massive advantages over poor ones. They start out with an infinitely better lifestyle and superior education and all that stuff, so naturally they have a much better chance at doing something special than some kid from the ghetto. That's why I sigh at the rightist "pull yourself up by your bootstraps!" rhetoric, since it ignores this. I do think it's important to have social welfare programs, as long as the inevitable abuse of said programs can be kept to a minimum.

That miniscule section of society isn't even affected by income tax, though. An inheritence doesn't count as salary, it falls under an entirely different set of rules.

Even though that is the fucking dumbest bullshit ever, people fall in line to lick her cunt. There's a reason that we tend to elect Ivy League-educated persons to the highest offices in the land: because we trust that their intelligence will prevent them from doing insane. Obviously, there have been serious betrayals in this sense, but could you imagine regular, unqualified schlemiels running this country?

I went to vote today. There were many, many, many people there, but the lines went fast. I'd say that I got out of there in about 10-15 minutes. I was also pleased to see some young voters in the library also.

Took about two hours here, it really made no sense why it was taking so long. After checking in, it was a long wait before your name was called out to receive your ballot. God knows how long the wait would be on election date then.
