Guest Report post Posted May 21, 2002 Steve Austin Pushed For Program With Guerrero Steve Austin apparently pushed for the program with Eddie Guerrero that got started on RAW last night. After working in some very average feuds lately, Austin wanted to be in the ring with the guy he thought was the best worker on RAW, that being Guerrero. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted May 21, 2002 This is pretty good news. A feud with Guerrero could bring back some of the 2001 Austin that ruled the world, rather than the lazy, unmotivated "DTA Austin" rehash. That Austin pushed for the feud is good news (if it's true) because it means he won't half-ass it despite it not being the top feud on the show (although who knows, it may be since the only other stuff is nWo and (apparently) Taker-RVD). Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted May 21, 2002 If more of the names did this more often how much better would WWE be these days? It wouldn't suprise me if Austin would be willing to lay down for Guerrero once or twice. HHH won't even stoop to jobbing to established wrestlers like Y2J. Hopefully this sets a trend and Vince takes notice.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 21, 2002 how can austin wrestle a program with guerrero if flair banned him from the ring? if the report is true, it's great to know austin still cares about his craft so much. it'll be a sad day when he retires. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted May 21, 2002 I would say the Rock started this "trend" (if it can be called that) a long time ago by doing semi-clean jobs to guys like RVD and Rhyno on a regular basis, and being the first main event guy to feud with and/or lose title matches to upper-midcard guys (Jericho and Angle both won their first titles off of the Rock, Rock was Benoit's first WWF main event feud, Rock had to drag Test and Billy Gunn around at various points, etc.). Guest caboose Report post Posted May 21, 2002 Finally, someone(Eddie) who can carry Austin's ass to a good match.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted May 21, 2002 I'm liking the sound of an Austin/Guerrero feud. This could hopefully lead to some good matches between them and a fresh program for Austin.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted May 21, 2002 Yeah, the prospects sound great but keep them the fuck away from a karaoke bar. If Austin does end the bad match streak, it would be with Eddie. If the matches come off as mediocre then Austin's crippled ass needs to retire.

Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted May 22, 2002 how can austin wrestle a program with guerrero if flair banned him from the ring? They probably won't wrestle each other until KOTR, and nothing is barring Austin from doing run-ins. All they really have to do is let Austin cost Eddy the IC title, cut a few promos on each other, set up a match, perhaps shoot a few vignettes of Eddy hitting on Debra, etc. If there's any upside to this brand extension, it would have to be the return and imminent push of Eddy Guerrero. Guest Risk Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Why would Eddy hit on Debra? He's married and has a daughter.

I say make it FOR the IC title. Even if Austin wins it and carries it for 2-3 months I personally think it would help the title and the people who are floating in that area. Guest papacita Report post Posted May 22, 2002 I'm almost afraid to say this because everytime I openly speculate on an angle, they go the opposite direction, but what I think they're gonna do is have Austin ask Flair for a match with Eddie, and have Flair keep denying it cuz he's benched. And hopefully, this will all lead to an INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH at the PPV.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Finally, someone(Eddie) who can carry Austin's ass to a good match. oh yeah...that austin, his useless ass can't have a good match unless someone carries him...
Guest Mystery Eskimo Report post Posted May 22, 2002 For Eddy to feud with Austin, he'd presumably have to lose the IC title, as thats below Austin. I hope he *dosn't* lose it to RVD, so he can carry on going after the Taker. So who could Eddy lose it to? Benoit probably wouldn't be back in time, so if Eddy has to lose it to a face, I have an awful picture of Mark Henry or someone getting it. This is all just random musing. They'll probably forget about Austin-Eddy and have Austin-Nash or something.
Guest papacita Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Unrelated note: I'm watching the last Smackdown before invasion...if they let Heyman cut more promos like that, maybe that angle wouldn't have done so badly. Anyway, people can say that the I-C Title is beneath Austin, but I really think they need to keep the belt on Eddie because for one, we have too many title changes as it is, and right now he's in a good position to elevate the title. And what better way to elevate the title than by having Austin compete for it? Especially if Eddie successfully retains the title (can't see him doing it clean, though). And if they're worried about people thinking that the belt is below Austin, then maybe they could have Flair sign him to that match as a punishment. Hell, both Warrior and Bret went for the I-C Title in 96-97 and it didn't hurt them any. I can't see why Austin can't do the same.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 22, 2002 You're right, It did not hurt Warrior and Hart. Also, Ric Flair after winning 13 world titles...in 1996, Fueded with the U.S Title for about 3 months and that did not hurt him. Austin can't be hurt by a lesser title...The only thing that can hurt Austin's personality is if he makes a radical character change...wait. Never mind. NOTHING CAN HURT HIM. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted May 22, 2002 I echo Choken's sentiments. It won't hurt Austin at all because he's not going to squash Eddy, especially after asking for this feud, so it should be like Hart and Flair, not like Hunter's shitty reign last year where he squashed both Jericho and Jeff Hardy. I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to this and with the "Canadian Mafia" looking like it's going to reform and NOT get dropped after a week this time, I wish I could get Smackdown at a decent hour instead of Saturday nights at midnight. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Well if Austin asked for the program then he obviously doesn't feel that he is "too good" for the IC title. So if Austin has no problem with it why are others going on about it being a step down. We all would like to see the IC get elevated and made semi important again yet some of us say that no one big should be bothered by wrestling over the belt. And if this is true it means Austin is going to work hard which would help the title even more. Also what would you rather Austin do? Enter another fued with Undertaker that won't go anywhere? Have him fued with Nash over nothing? The only other good thing Austin could do is fued with Flair but the evil owner vs. Austin thing is tired. Also as much as i love Flair i really rather not see him in a wrestling fued. I'd like to see Flair vs. Austin in a match but not in a wrestling fued. The best option for Austin currently is fueding with Eddy over the IC title. It will help the belt alot and can give us some good Austin matches again. Austin can go back to main eventing at anytime he wanted so nothing he does will hurt his role.
Guest Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Why would Eddy hit on Debra? He's married and has a daughter. Eddie's character is not married. Also if this happened we might have a repeat of the Undertaker/DDP feud. DDP is aslo married and he stalked the Undertaker's wife. That's also the same reason that Vince is having an affair with Stacy Keiber.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted May 22, 2002 "That's also the same reason that Vince is having an affair with Stacy Keiber." No it's not, because everyone knows Vince is married, both in real life and in the storylines. That particular example is just part of Vince's horny old man gimmick. As for the IC title, here's how I see it. Austin is feuding with Guerrero, so if the IC title is involved, it doesn't really hurt anything. Suppose the title wasn't there, the feud would be the same. I guess one could consider it a step down if they feud OVER the title, but it seems it's just going to be an Austin "you pissed me off" grudge feud. So at the end of the day, the title won't really hurt the feud or the wrestlers involved, where they might be able to help it. All that being said, I expect Austin to cost Guerrero the title to someone on RAW to build up their feud. (if I had to guess, probably RVD or Bubba Ray Dudley or someone like that).
