Guest jm29195 Report post Posted August 10, 2005 After being entertained and inspired by the excellent WWF rewriting history thread, I have decided to have a go at my own WCW version... I'm hoping to have it running from Starrcade 89, through to the 90's and beyond....anyway here's my first effort:- Starrcade 89 Atlanta, GA December 1989 This PPV follows the original’s Iron Man of the 90’s format- only the singles tournament is featured due to time constraints- changes I have made are that Steamboat is still with the company, having not had a contract dispute and walked out, The Skyscrapers were not injured at Clash 9 and are thus on the card, replacing the SST, the main event of Clash 9 was Sting/Flair vs Funk/Luger…. The four wrestlers in the Iron man tournament are Flair, Funk, Steamboat and Sting…. - The Rules: Competitors get 20 points for a pinfall or submission, 15 for a countout win, 10 for a DQ win, and 5 for a time-limit draw. Whoever has the most points after wrestling the other three people in the tournament wins. All matches are 20 minute time limits. - Sting beat Ricky Steamboat (10:39) following a superplex reversal ***1/2 - Doom beat The Skyscrapers (6:27) following interference by Women- Sid powerbombed Nitron following the decision ** - Ric Flair beat Terry Funk by submission (18:33) using the figure four ****1/2 - Brian Pillman beat Lex Luger for the US title (12:53) with a flying cross-body block- Luger destroyed Pillman with a chair after the bell **** - Ricky Steamboat and Terry Funk didn’t happen after Funk destroyed Steamboat’s leg with a chair, and the spinning toehold, Sting made the save and also took a beating from Funk. Funk is disqualified from the tournament and Steamboat gets 10 points off a DQ win, - The Steiners pinned the Road Warriors (18:49) to retain the tag straps after Rick powerslammed Hawk off Animal’s shoulders, countering the doomsday device *** - Ricky Steamboat and Ric Flair went to a time limit draw which went down to Steamboat not submitting to the figure four, despite being in the move for 5 minutes and already working hurt - Dr Death Steve Williams pinned The Great Muta (15:00) following a doctor bomb *** - Sting pinned Ric Flair (19:59) after reversing the figure four- the horsemen celebrate in the ring to close the show ***1/4 - Final points in the Iron Man Tournament Terry Funk- 0 points, Ricky Steamboat- 15 points, Ric Flair- 25 points, Sting- 40 points and the Iron Man of the 90’s! After the decision Ole and Arn Anderson run in to beatdown Sting but are seen off by the Steiner Bros. However Dr Death Steve Williams also runs down and reveals he is the new Fourth Horseman as he levels the new champion – and sheer weight of numbers overwhelms the tag champions leaving the horsemen standing triumphant and stealing the championship belt back as the PPV closes **** NB: I have decided not to ahead with a US Tag Title Tournament, as I feel that one tag title for the company at present is just fine.... Carnival 0 Report post Posted August 11, 2005 poop on that starcade ME! haha I like that this gets updated very fast. never post nitros and crap like that, just put up PPVs and give a little background, keeps things moving. keep up the good work. What happens when you reach 99 and guys like Jericho leave? Are you gonna book it so they actually leave or are you gonna use them properly and then they don't want to leave? I would suggest booking it as if they were leaving anyways, but it will get hard if you ever get to late 00 and the roster is pretty much crap.

I wanted to start using the NJPW connection sooner rather than later and figured using one of their top guys in a major part of Starrcade would keep NJPW sweet and leave them open to more talent swaps in the future......btw I'm also a major mark for NWA using tag teams as main event draws, maybe Flair/Fujinami won't be the main event? Guest Frank_Nabbit Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I did the NWA, WWF, and AWA, and Mid South/UWF from 1980 -1993(?) month by month super cards. i should dig out my note books and post those. They all played off each other with Free Agents and such. I think I did another AWA one where I based the booking around who Verne had in charge. That one fell to pieces once Eddie Gilbert got the book in 91 and had himself as World champ going over Stan Hansen.
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 NWA Starrcade 1990 December 1990 (3 1/2 hour long show) St. Louis, Missouri. - The Skyscrapers beat Doom (7:29) following a double chokeslam. A typical Skyscrapers match.*1/2 - Big Van Vader beat Brian Pillman (10:33) following 2 powerbombs and a chokeslam from the top rope. Pillman went through the match getting the piss beaten out of him by Vader but getting occasional hope spots, including along a long two count after he used Vader’s momentum to semi- powerbomb him off the top rope. Shortly afterwards Vader hit the Vaderbomb but Pillman kicked out. A visibly shocked Vader then pulled the barely conscious Pillman to his feet and hit the chain of finishing moves. Vader Raised the unconscious Pillman’s hand after the match in a show of respect.***1/2 - The Nasty Boys beat Kevin Sullivan/Cactus Jack (9:33) in a falls count anywhere match. Steamboat picked up the first fall after reversing the shining wizard into a roll up. Muta picked up the second after powering out of the double chickenwing and dropping Steamboat on his head. Muta clinched the match by reversing the original reversal that Steamboat had used to get the first fall. Both men shook hands after the match - A promo video by the Steiners aired wherein they challenged the winners of the tournament - Dr Death Steve Williams/Bam Bam Terry Gordy beat Arn Anderson/Barry Windham (12:29) Anderson initially expected Gordy to lay down for him, but was shown the error of his ways with a punch to the head. An even match which ended when the Skyscrapers ran down the ramp but stopped short of the ring, shocking Anderson and allowing Gordy to hit a piledriver for the win,*** - Johnny Ace/Stan Hansen beat the Nasty Boys (6:15) after Ace hit Saggs with a top rope ace crusher. Jim Ross said that it ‘could well be Johnny Ace’s lucky night.’*1/2 - Steve Williams/Terry Gordy beat the Skyscrapers (4:14) in a sprint of a power match, with both teams stiffing the shit out of each other, and hitting big moves throughout its very short duration. Carnival 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 I would have kept sting in the hunt, and have him get his rematch after getting screwed out of the title. Or would have had the winner of the Steamboat/Muta feud go on to get a title shot. I like the NJPW connection, but i wouldn't book a virtual uknown to the current WCW fans in the main event of the biggest PPV and expect people to want him to beat Flair. It would be different if NJPW guys were appearing on shows before this and the fans really took to Fujinami.

I would suggest booking it as if they were leaving anyways, but it will get hard if you ever get to late 00 and the roster is pretty much crap. hmmm I may have them leave at the times that they really did leave, only achieve more with them before they go... maybe a Jericho who won the US title at Starrcade 98 would be more likely to return to WCW in early 2000 after becoming dellusioned by having to job to Chyna repeatedly in late 99..... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jericho couldn't come back until either 2001 or 2002, has he signed a two or three year deal. This has been interesting to read, but the booking hasn't been very realistic or logical in places, and I'd take issue with these points: A Texas Death match would never be given away on free tv, especially on the same show as a falls count anywhere match. The back-to-back-to-back World tag title changes would never have happened. One short term title reign might happen, but not two. The Road Warriors losing a Chicago Street Fight would never happen. They really didn't like doing jobs as it is, but there is zero chance they would have agreed to lose a Chicago Street Fight. Similar deal in regards to the Skyscrapers losing to the Andersons. No way Sid does a job without being protected a lot more than that. His ego wouldn't allow him to lose off of just a lowblow. He'd have thrown a huge fit, and demanded more. If Zenk is not a heel, then there never would be a babyface v babyface title match. Bam Bam would never job on tv, over working in Japan. He'd lose by countout or DQ, but he'd never agree to lose via pinfall, even if it was a fluke loss. Sting using the Scorpion Death Drop. I can see why you did it, but it wouldn't have happened in 1990. Muta going 57 minutes would never be ****3/4. Muto, yes, but not Muta. The Hansen debut on Luger would never happen like that, and he absolutely would not have used a tope suicida. Cactus/Sullivan v Nasties? Again, I can see why you did it, but it just reeks of booking stuff from the future for no reason other than because you can. Bam Bam wouldn't job on tv, and he absolutely wouldn't job on PPV. With the guys in from Japan, like BBB and Hansen, they would never job clean, and the best you would be able to get out of them is a highly disputed finish. like with the Hansen v Luger Texas Lariat match at Starrcade 1990. Johnny Ace using the Ace Crusher? Pass. He didn't use that until Japan, and again it's that booking future stuff now just because you can. Like I said, it's been interesting to read, but there have been too many booking decisions that have been unrealistic or illogical for me to really get into it. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 Ok cheers for the constructive criticism, especially HTQ, just out of interest what is/was the move that Hansen used to move, I'm pretty sure it was the diving headbutt through the ropes that Benoit uses but I've probably got the name wrong in tope suicida... I'll take what you've said on board and use it towards booking in 91 (never done this before so you'll have to expect one or two glitches!) cheers James
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 12, 2005 It was a diving headbutt/lariat like move, but he wouldn't have done it in the US. He didn't have to. All he had to do was brawl away, so he had no need to pull out the big stuff.

Again Pillman took a lot of punishment from the bigger man, but this time managed to pull off the victory.** - Vader was shown looking on from the backstage area - The Great Muta beat Barry Windham (11:52) after a moonsault*** - Sid beat Arn Anderson (4:23) following a powerbomb. After the match the Skyscrapers challenged Windham and Anderson to a match at Superbrawl, if they lost, then they would never team again, but if they won then they would get five minutes with Ole Anderson and a tyre iron.1/2* - An interview aired with The Road Warriors, Hawk challenged Ace and Hansen to a match at Superbrawl to prove that their defeat at Starrcade was just a fluke, and that Animal would also show this in the next match. - Johnny Ace w/Hansen beat Road Warrior Animal w/Hawk (5:45) with the Ace Crusher. Ace held his own through the match and got the win by countering a shoulder tackle into the crusher. - The Steiner Bros beat Steve Williams and Terry Gordy (15:00) after Scott Steiner frankensteined Gordy. Jericholic82 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 What happens when you reach 99 and guys like Jericho leave? Are you gonna book it so they actually leave or are you gonna use them properly and then they don't want to leave? I would suggest booking it as if they were leaving anyways, but it will get hard if you ever get to late 00 and the roster is pretty much crap. hmmm I may have them leave at the times that they really did leave, only achieve more with them before they go... maybe a Jericho who won the US title at Starrcade 98 would be more likely to return to WCW in early 2000 after becoming dellusioned by having to job to Chyna repeatedly in late 99..... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There have been face vs face title matches before. heel pillman beat zenk in a lightweight title match at wrestlewar 92 with both of them faces. But I will admit he is relying on moves that people didnt use then like sting using the scorpion deathdrop (he didnt do that until he was crow sting) and bigelow using greetings from asbury park. but since this is fantasy booking, we shouldnt be too harsh on him. in any event its been a great read and you showed some brilliant ideas IMO. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 Notes taken from last week in January 1991 Wrestling Obsever Newsletter Rhodes/Rhodes heading back to WCW? After what many saw as an unsatifactory run in the WWF, it is almost certain that Dusty and Dustin Rhodes will be returning to the NWA. Talks, headed by chief booker Jim Ross, have already taken place with the onle opposition so far being from reigning heavyweight champion Ric Flair. If everything is sorted out, expect the pair to return as soon as the Superbrawl PPV Doubles Champs defecting? In a shocking move, WCW Tag champions The Nasty Boys, have entered negotiations with the WWF about entering for Wrestlemania 7. It seems that the Nasty Boys were working on a short term contract and have been offered a considerable raise and push to jump ship. It is unknown as to what WCW's response will be for this but expect the champs to at least honour their upcoming ppv booking. Scott Steiner to recieve major long term push? There has been considerable interest from both Jim Ross and Ric Flair , in having the ultra talented Scott Steiner work an extended program Ric Flair. It is unknown if this will result in Steiner winning the belt, and Steiner himself is undecided as to whether he will give up his tag role with brother Rick. His decision, it is said, comes down to how Rick is treated as a singles player if Scott is pushed to the moon. More NJPW Talent Inbound Both NWA and NJPW officials were very happy as to how the Japanese participation at Starrcade went so expect more NJPW wrestlers over during the Summer months, whilst NJPW has expressed a strong interest in luring the already popular Gordy/Williams team over for a few months. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 If anyone could answer these queries for me I'd be very grateful:- When did Bigelow start using 'Greetings from Ansbury Park' and what was his finisher before then, a moonsault? Has Keiji Mutoh ever wrestled as himself outside of Japan? Did Ricky Steamboat have a regualr finsihing manouver? When did Steve Austin first enter WCW, I belive it was around 1990, but that he wasn't used much although he was the TV Champ- does this belt exist around the period I am booking and if not, when and how did it come into existance? To clear up the Johnny Ace thing with the Ace Crusher, I am using a move that he made famous to make Ace a star in much the same way that DDP used it in 96/97- the difference being that Ace originated the move, him using it a bit earlier doesn't change that much but I thought it would be a nice touch to justify the push I'm giving him, rather than just giving him a made up move (as I am with Pillman) cheers James
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2005 Bigelow started using the GfAP in ECW in 1997. I don't believe Muto as ever wrestled as himself outside of Japan, but I might be wrong on that. Steamboat's finisher was usually a flying bodypress off the top rope. Autin debuted in WCW in June of 1991, and won the TV title almost right away. The TV title was around in this time period.
