Guest Report post Posted May 22, 2002 The RVD situation is starting to become the "fed that cried wolf", though, because they've given RVD two "non-win" wins over the World Champion (one in a non-title match against Austin and one in a total Dusty finish with UT) and, eventually, the excitement of seeing RVD win is going to wane, just 'cause nobody will expect it to go longer than a week. Didn't RVD beat Angle when he was champion last September also?
Guest Report post Posted May 22, 2002 I think this week's RAW was really good. Good storyline movement and some sense was even brough into play.. I have a degree in television production, so I am always a bit picky about that.. and the WWE doesn't usually let me down... but that karaoke segment! Geez.... First of all, I'm pretty sure that it wasn't live, if it was then maybe it's excusable... but if they did it live than it was a waste of money to do it live. Based on the assumption it was pre-taped, they should have A) CUT IT - it was TOO LONG! Waay too long! and B) Done something about the sound - it was terrible, all muddy. You couldn't hear what was going on. Also, how are Austin and Geurerro going to fight if Austin has been "benched" by Flair And am I the only one that laughed when Jim Ross says "You've heard it said before, anything can happen in the WWE!"? I had never heard anyone say it before (about WWF, yes, but WWE, no.) Also, isn't it weird to say "the WWE" I mean "The World Wrestling Federation" works, but "The World Wrestling Entertainment" doesn't. Yeah I know it's nitpicky. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 22, 2002 And I hate to rain on the Chono parade, but when he was brought into the nWo-era WCW, he essentially just walked around, stiffed some people, and looked out of place. Yeah, cuz that's what Chono does when he's unmotivated, pissed off, or doesn't care. It's one of his "tells" that his match is going to suck when he stiffs someone right away. But believe me, he's just like Austin that, when motivated, he can GO, and I think he's got enough of a "look" and charisma to get by his so-so English skills. He's one of the few puro stars who I think could make it big in a NA Sports Entertainment environment.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted May 22, 2002 Oh yeah, for an era that is totally dumped on the early 90s had a bunch of great wrestling. Many of my favorite matches ever come from 1991-93. Seems like bps made a comment on the Raw thread about "RVD getting a title feud, doing good on the mic, etc....what is this? ECW?" Actually he never got near the world title on ECW, and frankly I think it killed the company. In the WWF he got a non title win over Austin, a non title win over Angle, a DQ win over the Rock (when Rock had WCW title), a DQ Dusty Finish win over Jericho (when Jericho had the undisputed), and now this goofy Dusty Finish thing with the Taker. Frankly, if all they are going to do with RVD is make him a main event job bitch, I wish they had just left the IC title on him. I think the fans will buy him as a credible world champ since he has beaten a lot of guys.
Guest Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Guys the reason there bad ratings is because there is no publicty around wrestling. The only ads they show for it are on TNN and face it, nobody watches TNN. Don't blame it on RVD because wrestling is just not as popular as it once was. The only reason it had big ratings in 1998-2001 was because of publicity and the casual fans so this and thought it was cool.

World champions who RVD has beaten while they held the title: Chris Jericho...both the RAW DQ and he pinned him in a tag match on smackdown. Taker...Flair restarted match Kurt Angle...to get Austin a title shot Steve Austin...the time Austin was going to beat up the "next guy through the door" it was RVD...and he was pinned non-title I think that takes care of the WWE title... but he also pinned the Rock when he was WCW champion...non title of course. My ECW comment was more along the lines of his getting mike time and an angle.

But RVD never WANTED the ECW World Title (weird, I know)... he was fine with the TV Title. Plus, when a person holds a title for 28 months, they get sort of attatched to it. I forgot where I heard/read this, but I'll try to find it to get confirmation for ya.

Plus if he's stiffing people becasue he's in a bad mood he's a dickhead.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted May 23, 2002 The whole thing with RVD liking his TV title really hurt ECW big time. He was perceived as the best guy in ECW yet didn't have the world title, thus it killed the heat of whoever was the world champ. It slightly hurt Taz's heat I think and I know it hurt Mike Awesome and Justin Credible. And really, he held the TV title for 2 years then got hurt and vacated the title, thus no one got the insane rub from beating him.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 23, 2002 getting hurt and not being able to drop the title isn't really his fault...is it? When he got back he jobbed to Rhyno (the current tv champion) on ppv...that was the best he could do as far as any kind of "rub".
