Legit undisputed title contenders

Recommended Posts

Guest WildPegasusXXII

I was thinking about all the fuss that's been going around about the Undisputed title lately, and want to make a list of who should be contending for it, and who doesnt need it anymore.

Doesn't Need it:

Hogan (not over now, but even if he was, he's above it)

Nash (wouldnt do anything for him although he'll probably get it for a month or so)

Austin (maybe one more reign if that)

HHH (see Austin)

Undertaker (unless it ushers in the return of the old character and a retirement run, he doesn't need it)

Contenders:

Rocky (being away all the time will kill his heat, maybe he should hold it once or twice more)

Jericho (funny, the "transitional" champion has the longest reign)

Kurt Angle (he could use a good reign or two, but he's apparently outtie in a bit for the olympics)

Benoit (give him till the Rumble to get back into things, and he could be a legit Rumble winner)

Edge (He needs a bit more, but his upcoming feud with HHH oughta put him on the path)

Other

Giant

Booker T

Kane

RVD

(all need some more time and something else that I cant put my finger on before theyre ready)

I think Val Venis with a new name should be given a chance. I think he has the look, mic skills and ability to be a credible uppercard guy and even a heavyweigt champ down the line.

If Booker T turns on the NWO and with that momentum got past the comedy bits he has had with Golddust I definitely think he deserves to be in the main-event picture but as a face.

Hopefully post-Summerslam Hogan, Undertaker and Nash will all have retired and younger guys taken their places. Austin might have a year in him or should have a farewell match at Wrestlemania 19, he should work on elevating guys in the meantime, maybe one last title run. HHH is still young and although he isn't my favorite he should still contend for the title down the line but now he should help elevate guys like Edge.

Scratch Angle from that list, Pegasus. He's busy with Maven.

Why even bother with it? Besides,

SPOILER

it seems like Maven easily took care of Angle and Christian by himself. Looks like the fued is continuing with SOMEONE (Angle or Christian) and the opening promo suggests angle.

Dustin needs a cool nickname.  Like..."The American Nightmare" as opposed to "The American Dream."  Of course, that may get a bunch of 9-11 hate-mail.  He just needs to get rid of the gay shtick, it's not as effective when his daughter is on TV.  He's a good wrestler though, a helluva lot better than Dutha Rose!

He just needs to find a gimmick that is just him, and not his father.  Personally, I'd like to see Booker and Dust as a Hollywood Blondes-esque team.  Booker did say he looked "stunning" in G-Dust's wig.  Maybe he could dye his hair blonde...*snicker*  Anyways...the team has great potential.

I like the Booker/Goldust team too.  They have great chemistry together and both are excellent workers.  I like Goldust's gimmick because he is playing a very bizarre dude, only with a little more humor this time.

Back to topic here..I totally agree with the Val Venis statement..he was a good IC champ, and theres nothing wrong with him to keep him in the undercard. They need to make him INTENSE...hehe. Heres my list of credible world title guys

Venis

Angle

Booker

Jericho

Benoit

RVD

I'd like to see them go with Angle for a while this year.

Jericho has been hurt considerably lately...so he needs to be rebuilt.

I'd love to see the title around Benoits waste but would also like them to wait until he is completely back into form.

Booker is on the path to recovery now IMO.

RVD seems to be right there to me.

Edge has to turn heel to freshen up interest in him before a run near the top IMO.  I mean...yeah he beat Angle and will likely face HHH soon...but it's still just same old Edge who looked horrid against Regal.  Turn him before the push continues to make us forget.

I like Venis.  I'd like to see him get a long run with one of the singles belts...but they aren't on Smackdown.  Seriously though...a few months of an IC title reign would go a long way to establish him as a serious future prospect.  I like what he brings to the table more than most.

Eddy may come out of the Austin feud looking like gold...so here's hoping that Benoit gets the belt right when guys like Guerrero, Jericho, Angle, Booker and RVD are getting to the top.

Cause that would FUCKING RULE.

I've got a question here Mr. Moderator man. Do you think Edge turning would help HHH get over as a top notch face at all or do you think it is hopeless for Hunter?

I think something that would really get Edge over, be it as a face or, in my preference, a heel is his old gimmick of Silent But Violent. Coming out of the crowd, not talking on the mic, etc.

I thikn that HHH has been drawing good to great face pops lately...and his form has greatly improved also.

I think HHH looks good now and is over...and if they were just now putting the belt on him for the first time...it wouldn't bother me.

But what bothers me is how Jericho never goes over.

I could stand seeing Angle win the title in a three-way over Hogan and UT next week, and hold the title til atleast Summerslam, maybe even Survivor Series.  He's the most over heel they have... too bad he's leaving for the Olympics..

nobody should be 'above' the title.  when you're not busy trying to build someone's credibility with the title, that title should be around the waist of the company's most credible man: that way the title actually MEANS something when you put it on someone who needs it.

the active guys that could credibly hold the title now seem to be: austin, trips, angle, jericho.

undertaker seems pretty iffy to me.

hogan's too god damn old.  no way in hell he really could've beaten triple h or jericho.

rvd just wouldn't sit right with me.  if they plan on giving him the title anytime soon, he needs to be in at least 2 high-profile feuds with main-event guys.

edge wouldn't sit right with me either.  angle's doing an excellent job of gradually bringing him up to ME credibility, but he isn't there yet.  he needs at least one more big feud to really get him over.

booker t would be a joke right now as a champion.  this guy hasn't done anything but comedy angles since he lost the wcw title in august.  they need to change his image completely for him to be even taken seriously, much less be a contender for the title.

He would have three already if the WWE didn't cut them off.

1.  Austin. The feud throughout the latter part of Invasion that never saw a true blow off because the Main Event of No Mercy involved Angle too.

2.  Jericho.  The feud for Jericho after winning the undisputed title...it saw RVD get the better of him at every turn...and then it got cut off before the blow off win for Jericho.

3.  Taker.  He's faced Taker many times...and if they continue the storyline on Raw...its a feud.

On January 7, I should point out.

Correction: he needs a good feud, something Edge isn't capable of. he's screwed.

1. He was called the American Nightmare in WCW when he was heel before it closed

2. When is his daughter on tv?

3. Who the fuck is Dutha Rose?

RVD: Eventually, but it would be a bit too soon to put the title on him right now IMO. I say let him get his I-C Title back from Eddie before putting him in the World Title scene.

Edge: He's got potential, but he needs to develop a character first. I could definitely see the title on him sometime down the line.

HHH: He's over again, so why not.

Jericho: He's at a point right now where he could do a lot of good for the title. Get him a Horsemen-like stable and get thetitle on him and it could make for some great TV.

Austin: As long as he's saying "What?", keep him away from the title.

Taker: I like Taker but honestly I don't see him at World Title level right now. The heel turn hasn't done a thing for me, and it just seems like something's missing from him these days. Maybe he should make a return to the darkside, I dunno.

Booker: I like Book, but I really don't know what to say about him. He hasn't been a believable World Title contender since SummerSlam.

Hogan: He failed. Screw him!

Val: He has potential, but he's a long way from the Undisputed Title.

Chyna: RE-SIGN HER AND PUT THE BELT ON HER NOW!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry.

Out of everybody mentioned, I say the best bet is with HHH or Jericho...or the Rock if he decides to give up on acting.

If the Undertaker returned to the darkside I don't think it would go over well. I remember his last heel run with the belt when he was still darkside. The crowd was apathetic. If Chyna ever got to be Champ it would be almost as bad as Stephanie. If she did though they could bring in Joey Buttafuco (sp?) to win the belt.

Hmm...Booker T with blond hair and Dustin Rhodes. Tag team name: "The Naturals".

Back on topic, all I have to say is get the strap off Taker and put it on Jericho, HHH...*somebody* that can still work a decent match!

And if Eddy can come out of his program with Austin looking like a viable contender, then so be it.

I dunno. I still considered myself a mark back then, and Undertaker's reign seemed a little weak to me simplt because he was with McMahon. Something about a Corporate Dead Man is hard to get into.

Buttafuco...SHE GOT ROBBED!!!! THAT FIGHT WAS FIXED!!!! FIXED!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with everyone who's said that RVD needs a month or two in the main event scene before getting the belt.  Giving him the title on Monday would have been the absolute definition of hotshot booking and would have failed miserably.  In retrospect, I think Jericho's title reign would have gone better had they let him establish his sneaky heel character for a few more months in the main event.  And that's the key.  There's no need to rush into anything.

What are you talking about?  HHH was coming back... the man DEMANDS he gets things rushed.  Rushed, I tell ya!

I totally agree... Jericho should have held the title for AT LEAST 2-3 more months.

HHH as champ again?  He's over.  His ring performance is better.  But, I personally think his promos are still lacking.
