Your ROH MOTY

Recommended Posts

Out of the few DVDs I've seen thus far, I'd have to go with CM Punk vs. Jimmy Rave. Everything that can be said about this match has already been said. I really did want Jimmy Rave to die. ****1/4 abouts, maybe more.

Then again, I have DBD II coming in a week so Aries/Punk might top that.

(I also saw a Aries/Josh Prohibition match this year that was ****)

CM Punk vs. Austin Aries (6/18)

CM Punk's best babyface performance in Ring of Honor, probably the best babyface performance ever in ROH. It sucks that WWE signed him just as he was peaking.

I've only seen up to May. Now that that's out of the way, I'd say Aries vs. Gibson from 4/16 was the best ROH match I've seen this year, with Punk/Spanky vs. Lethal/Joe a close second. Ironically, neither of those matches would crack ROH's top 5 from 2004.

From what I've seen this year, it's the 4-Way at the last Dayton show. I was there live, which may add to my loving of the match so much. But still, the drama, the action, and the super Tiger Bomb put it over the top for me.

Danielson/Spanky is high on my list as well. I also really enjoyed Homicide/Aries.

I thought Dragon has the much better match with Aries over the May Doubleshot midwest weekend. The Gibson match was decient, but I didn't think it was great.

Mine would have to be Punk vs Rave in the cage from Chicago

Having seen up to Manhattan Mayhem, Samoa Joe vs Jay Lethal stands out as the best match i've seen out of ROH 2005 so far. Rave/Punk from one of the 3rd Anniversary shows would probably be runner-up, so given my enjoyment of that match and my tastes in wrestling i'm quite sure Rave/Punk in the cage will top my list whenever i get around to seeing it.

My top five would include these matches though I really am not sure on an order:

- Austin Aries vs. Bryan Danielson - 5/14

- CM Punk vs. Jimmy Rave (Steel Cage) - 5/14

- Austin Aries vs. CM Punk - 6/18

- Roderick Strong vs. CM Punk - 7/9

Before this afternoon, I would have put the Lethal/Joe Pure Title match from 5/7 in my top five. However, I just watched the Rave vs. Styles Street Fight from 7/23 in Philly and it is really great. One of the better Styles matches I've seen. They just work a great intense brawl with almost no silly "weapon spots" that seem to be the norm in most street fights these days. Good punching from both guys, good bumps, and a lot of intensity.

If I had to chose one match, I'd probably say Strong vs. Punk (7/9) is my favorite ROH match of 2005 so far, although Aries vs. Punk is right there.

Punk had a really great 2005.....

Yeah, I just watched this Jack Evans v. Alex Shelley from TAC Pt. 3 and I thought it was an absolutely tremendous match for less than 15 minutes.

The match itself had a really good flow to it. However, Jack takes absolutely every sick bump imaginable including some sort of botched 630 where he lands headfirst on a chair after the match. And that's what I'll remember it for.

***1/2. One of my top five ROH matches of the year.

Having seen everything up to and including Death Before Dishonor III, Samoa Joe vs James Gibson is EASILY my Match of the Year thus far.

Really? I was disappointed by the match. It was really good, but not quite what I expected from those two...

I beg the differ. Punk/Delirious for 60 minites totally tops it.

I'm posotive that ANY of tonights THREE GBH4 main events will be the Match of the Year.
