Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted May 23, 2002 Back in simpler times, when Hulk Hogan was feuding with Andre The Giant, I remember reading my most recent Masters Of The Universe magazine, and what was inside took me by surprise. No, it wasn't a preview of the latest He-Man figures. It was an ad for a movie, a movie I had been waiting for for 2 years previous...The Garbage Pail Kids Movie. The movie came and went into theaters, and my mom, being one of those "typical parents" who complained about the lewdness of the cards, refused to take me. Finally, the movie aired on cable, and though I watched it numerous times, was never able to tape it. Finally, in 1998, I located the ONE VIDEO STORE IN MY STATE that had the movie (at least I'm pretty sure it was, because I tried nearly everyone in the phone book, and nobody had it...some even laughed, those bastards). I was able to take it home and watch it, and made sure that I didn't return it to the store until I had my own personal copy (teehee). But here we are, 4 years later, and this movie still has not seen the light of day from cable TV, or even a DVD release. With the nostalgia craze running wild (no pun intended), I think it's time that this movie sees the light of day again.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted May 23, 2002 I remember collecting the Garbage Pail Kids cards when I was a young lad. I also remember the movie and thinking it was a great piece of cinema for a demented youngster such as I was. For nostalgic's sake I may very well track down a copy and rewatch it and guffaw alike a madman at it's genius. I must also at this time curse the blasted Cabbage Patch Kids makers for being the cause of the discontinuation of such a fine brand of cards that was The Garbage Pail Kids. I shall start a movement to introduce the GPKs soon to a new generation and future generations so that the world will be a better place. Down with the likes of Pokeman and Harry Potter and all will at last hail the resurgence of the GPKs.
Guest Report post Posted May 24, 2002 What a disturbingly cool movie. I was able to buy a used VHS copy a few years back. I hope it comes on DVD in the future.
