AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 (edited) Game Informer seems to be making me try to like them. (While I'm on the Bloodrayne tangent, the BR movie has a release date...Jan 6!) Two Thrones is their current Game of the Month, they did a retro-review on Super Turrican, and they actually have some interesting previews. However, the Two Thrones review itself is terrible. It's like a preview of the game with a concluding opinion tacked on. It contains absolutely no useful insight into the game at all that you couldn't gleam from the previews/gameplay footage. Scores: 9.25 for the main, 2nd opinion was 9.0. A Gamestop clerk hooked me up with the PoP neo-trilogy sampler soundtrack--very cool. As long as the series is in competent hands, I hope it lives on. Battles of Prince of Persia looks dreadfully uninteresting, though. I wish I had a gaming-quality cell phone to play the mobile TT. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2005 S D's new sig: Say hello to E3 2004 Prince of Persia 2 booth babe, Candice Michelle. If only I had known the contest she would be participating in a few months later, I probably would have kidnapped her. I would have preferred that poster over the final cover. Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Finished this game a few hours ago and it was amazing. The ending lacked some closure and there were a few kinks but overall a fine ending to the SoT trilogy. Kudos Ubisoft.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 Dark Prince has grown on me a lot...although I hate parts where you scan the terrain and see nothing...and die from lack of time because you didn't run up the wall and chain-swing in the right place. I saw the game up at Gamestop for $29.99 (curiously not at EB though, so I guess it's just GS, which also knocked down SVR2k5 to $39.99 for 3 days only), so come on and get it already if you haven't. Anya 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 I like the speed kills. Stealth kills are satisfying in every game. The combat still feels glitchy though, like there is no sense of collision or impact.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 The combat is basically a more polished Warrior Within. Only without as ridiculous an amount of it, and the stealth kills give you a chance to avoid it. However, you're basically forced to stealth kill around sand gates. If you don't, infinite enemies pour out of the gate until you die. Although if you can stealth kill all but one or two, you could off the last few in free-form and be safe as long as you're quick. Thankfully there's less combat on narrow platforms, where a wrong move could send you plummeting to your death (which, while rewindable, was a pain in the BUTT in WW). Renegade 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 Stealth kills are completely pointless and are pretty rare in the final stretch of the game since you get a one hit kill weapon.
Anya 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Just finished it. Thought it was great, my favorite in the series. If I knew it was going to be this good I would have got it earlier. Honestly I wasn't that hyped to play it going in. I'm very happy they went back to the linear progression instead of backtracking like in WW. Games don't need to be long just for the sake of being long. Constantly entering a whole new era is much better in a game like this. Is this really the end of the series? Renegade 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 They are going to make more, but it's the end of the sands of time trilogy.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Where'd ya hear? I've heard nothing about that so far from Ubi. Hopefully that means more awesome platformers and not something with the name slapped on it (Battles of PoP doesn't really interest me, for instance). Anya 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 What is Battles of POP? The graphics in TT are so odd looking, like there is no sense of depth or layering. Their clothes are like part of the skin. Farah looked espacially bad. The Prince's hair was from a PSX era game.
J. Hungerford Smith 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 (edited) I just beat it, this was probably ranked #2 on my list of the 3 behind Sands of Time. I did like the boss battles and their difficulty but the one against the sword and axe twins was almost too hard, I think you literally just have to get lucky in order to beat them (it seemed that the sword twin would just hit you from anywhere he was standing, even all the way across the platform where the battle took place). I'm kind of annoyed though because once I beat the game, after the ending scene it got locked up on a black screen and I wasn't able to save the game thus I have to go back and beat the last battles again before I am able to view the video gallery. Oh, and I don't know if this has been discussed in the thread or not, but it might be a spoiler, so I'll give it the spoiler tag: There is no alternate ending this time, so it's not necessary to get all 6 life upgrades, but they are very helpful because the Vizier battle might take a lot of your life away. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 Sword/Axe guy are cake. You attack sword guy until axe guy swings, gets his ax stuck in the ground, then you attack him. The last chariot sequence was far harder. Said one-hit kill weapon is awesome, by that point in the game, you've stealth-killed enough anyway. The cinema that accompanied is very cool (especially the shots DP gets in).
Anya 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 That second chariot race really got frustrating. I had to like memorize it.
J. Hungerford Smith 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2006 Yeah, it was nice to get the sword and just be able to kill everybody with one swing, but I liked using the dagger tail much better. Something about being able to just whip the crap out of people was just very enjoyable
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2006 Hey, edit that J. Spoilerford. And mashing Y to just chop 3-4 enemies to bits with ease, and using the daggertail to swing across huge gaps was great. That is a bitchin' sword, though.
