Guest Report post Posted May 24, 2002 I'm talking WWE Year. Other wise, Flair's 1989, NWA year would blow most of these away. #1- Steve Austin (2001) #2 Triple H (2000) Tie #3 Bret Hart (1992) #3 Shawn Michaels (1996) #3 Kurt Angle (2001) #4 Randy Savage (1988) #5 Curt Hennig (1991)
Guest treble charged Report post Posted May 24, 2002 I'd put HHH from 2000 above Austin from 2001. HHH had ****+ matches with Foley, Rock, Benoit, and Jericho (maybe even more, I can't really remember) that year. Austin had a good 2001, but it doesn't quite match HHH's 2000. Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 25, 2002 let's see...this is all off the top of my head, by the way... austin 2001: january raw w/angle, wrestlemania, 5/21 raw, calgary raw, edmonton smackdown, summerslam, unforgiven, october raw, vengeance trips 2000 (haven't seen everything from this year, so i'll just include everything i have that i think is great): rumble, no way out, fully loaded, no mercy hbk 1996 (ditto): IYH with owen, wrestlemania, good friends better enemies, summerslam, mind games, survivor series bret 1992: house show cage match w/shawn, house show ladder match w/shawn, house show title win w/flair, summerslam, survivor series bret 1997: final four, wrestlemania, revenge of the taker, canadian stampede, summerslam, ground zero just as i thought...2001 austin wins. it's too bad that his streak probably won't be as memorable as shawn's, if only because so many of his great matches were on free tv. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Its a shame that Benoit had to have surgery last year. He was on pace to do some very special stuff. Jan. Ladder Match with Jericho Feb. 4 way for IC title Mar. vs. Angle Apr. vs. Angle MAy vs. Angle SD! vs. Austin TLC 3 Tag match vs. Austin and HHH 2/3 falls at Insurextion with Angle. And...was the Angle cage match that year too? VERY strong first half of the year.

And...was the Angle cage match that year too? VERY strong first half of the year. wow, i forgot about benoit. his streak of great matches (at least what i think are great matches) beats austin's. but i have some thoughts on that: benoit's streak was kind of a double-edged sword. he was god for 2 weeks in may and had he not been injured, he would've been the mvp of 2001 and possibly had the greatest year of any north american wrestler (yes, better than flair even). but the level of intensity he was wrestling at was just ridiculous. austin was getting time off basically through half the summer to lick his wounds. benoit didn't have that luxury. he just kept he got over by pure wrestling, so the wwf got him to wrestle at his top level every single time. with the current wwf style, his body was eventually going to catch up with him. you can't ask a guy to wrestle the majority of a tag match, wrestle in a TLC match the next night, wrestle the house shows, wrestle a 20-minute match the next monday & wrestle another 20-minute match the day after that and not expect his body to break down. i'd love to see another streak from benoit, but i also hope he learns his lesson from last year and tones it down.
