The ultimate nfl draft

Recommended Posts

Guest El Satanico

Well ok as any football fan knows this is currently the time that very little happens during. I was bored and saw this at another message board and i wanted to get some wider opinions.

Ok lets say that every NFL suddenly released all of their players. And your team had it's choice of 10 players and they got to pick their 10 before every other team. So starting from scratch with every current NFL in the pool what 10 players would you pick and you can give your reasons if you want to. Remember i'm not talking fantasy football where you go for guys that will earn you the most points. This is talking about who you'd choose for a real life team who you must build from scratch.

1. Edgerrin James: It was close between him and Marshall Faulk but i choose him because he's close to the same level as Faulk but younger.

2. Peyton Manning: With Edgerrin you don't need a running QB just need a good passing one.

3. Orlando Pace: Every team needs a good line and he's one of the best tackles and has no history of injury.

4. Jonathon Ogden: Also one of the best tackles and would give the team great offensive line bookend and you could put just about any guards and center between them and have a good line.

5. Jevon Kearse: Hasn't been as spectacular as his rookie season but he's been double and triple teamed ever since. Still he's a solid young DE who will only get better.

6. John Abraham: Another good & solid young DE who will only get better.

7. Brian Urlacher: He may not be THE best LB right now but he will be. He's one of the top LBs right now and he is still improving and will be a monster for years to come and he keeps with my youth movement. With him cleaning up anything in the middle all the team needs is a few OLBs that are capable of pass coverage and that can help on run stopping or pass rushing when needed.

8. Corey Simon: The pass rushing DT to go with the two DE's and Urlacher. Like te DEs Simon is another solid young player who's best playing years are still ahead of him. With Kearse, Simon, Abraham and Urlacher all the team would need is two decent olbs and a decent space eating run stopping DT to have an impressive defensive front seven.

9. Champ Bailey: You need a "shut down" type CB. So with my whole youth movement it was between him and Charles Woodson my decision comes down to Woodson's big toe. This whole toe injury thing that's all over NFL and NBA is a bigger problem then most fans realize.

10. Tony Gonzalez: QB needs a go to guy and TE is the thinnest reciever position as far as talent goes. He also provides two needs in one package. He has the hands for being a go to guy and he is athletic enough to stretch the field. Him being on the team would make it easier to go after WRs who aren't widely popular or proven.

No particular order

1.  Champ Bailey

2.  Charles Woodson (if toe isn't a big problem) if it is Quentin Jammer

3.  Woodson/ Chris McAllister

4.  Brian Dawkins

5.  Roy Williams

Reason- There will be no passing game against me for the next 10 years

6.  Urlacher

7.  Corey Simon

Reason- To shore up the middle of my D

8.  Donovan McNabb

Reason- Can take game into his own hands

9.  Pace

10.  Ogden

Reason- Would give McNabb forever to do his thing

1. Donovan McNabb.  I'd want a QB who can do it all.

2. Edgerrin James.  So so my QB doesn't *have* to do it all.

3. Terrell Owens.  He might be a jackass, but the man is an excellent receiver.

4. Eric Moulds.  I like big receivers for the matchup problems they create in the secondary.

5. Jonathan Ogden. Someone to run behind.

6. Ray Lewis.  Start building the D with the best LB.

7. Peter Boulware. OLB or DE, he just gets to the freaking passer.

8. Champ Bailey.  Excellent all-around CB.

9. Charles Woodson (Alternate: Chris McAlister, if Woodson's health is an issue).  Ditto.

10. Sam Adams.  I want to stop the run, too.

1. donovan mcnabb

2. marshall faulk ( i've had him 2 years in a row for fantasy football, I have to be loyal to my best guy.)

3. terrell owens

4.  johnothan ogden

5. ray lewis

6. brian urlacher

7. Jeff Garcia ( i'm a fan of his, I think manning is overrated, atleast garcia can scramble.)

8. Randy Moss

9. Warren Sapp

10. Brett Favre

those would be the top 10 guys I would look for, I might put favre higher on a different day, but today in general I am not for whatever reasonj

Donovan McNabb (QB)- Always my #1 pick on Madden 2002 in "Franchise Mode".

Ricky Williams (RB)- A punishing running back.

Freddie Jones (TE)- VERY Underrated. T. Gonzalez may be too pre-occupied with basketball...

Chris Samuels (OT)

Orlando Pace (OT)

Ray Lewis (MLB)

Derrick Brooks (OLB)

Champ Bailey (CB)

Fred Smoot (CB)

Sam Madison (CB)

Remember I'm not talking about fantasy football here. This is what you would do if you could pick any 10 players to build a real life team.

It's your list and all so pick whoever you want. However i'm wondering why you would pick 3 qbs when you can take any player?

I can somewhat understand picking two good qbs on a real life team even though it wouldn't be the greatest idea. But taking three makes no sense at all on a real life team and there are much bigger needs then a third string qb.

1. Donovan McNabb - He's going to be the best QB in the 00s, IMO

2. Marshall Faulk

3. Ray Lewis

4. Jonathan Ogden

5. Randy Moss - Sure he takes plays off, but he's just too talented for me to pass up.

6. Terrell Owens

7. Orlando Pace

el santico, I thought we are drafting, did you want me to make my all-stone team 55 man roster?????  If I couldn;t pick mcnabb I would take garcia, and if I couldn;t take garcia I would taker favre.  If I couldn;t get favre I'd be fucked :( .  Let me know if want the 55 man All Stone Team and I will break it down for you with lineups and certain players playibng certain formations like nickel and shit.

Interesting.  I always go for the franchise running back.  I'll grab MARSHALL MARSHALL MARSHALL~! if I have a really early pick, then it gets to James, George, Dillon, etc.  Jamal Lewis becomes REALLY good (and he's cheap), so he's a good one to grab with an eye for the future.

I traded for McNabb in the last franchise mode I did.  Damn, is he good.

What are you rambling about? The point of all this is to pick any 10 current NFL players to start a real life team with. Take for example all Nfl teams cut their entire roster and you suddenly become a NFL team owner and you get the first chance to pick any 10 players to start the rebuilding process on a team that has no players.

Just imagine it as a normal NFL draft just with teams being able to pick 10 players with their first round pick.

Choose what you want but why would you want 3 qbs in the top 10 players you'd pick to totally rebuild a real team that has NO players. There are more vaulable positions to fill instead of 2nd and 3rd string QBs.

1. Jonathan Ogden - need a solid foundation for the O-line and won't ever have to worry about my QB's blindside

2. Kurt Warner - Good arm, amazing accuracy and brings the leadership skills of a QB who's guided his team to two Super Bowl's.

3. Marshall Faulk - Can do it all - run the ball and catch it out of the backfield, providing Warner with an important safety valve.

4. Brian Urlacher - Middle linebacker is the most important defensive position (kinda like the quarterback on offense - provides leadership and a bad one makes your defense not look so good), so it's my belief that you should always have an All-Pro here - especially a speedy one like Urlacher.

5. Champ Bailey - So I can lock down the opponent's #1 reciever.

6. Jevon Kearse - So the ball never gets to the #1 reciever, cause his QB just got a faceful of grass.

7. Jimmy Smith - My favorite NFL player - underrated guy who has good hands and can make the big play.

8. Brian Dawkins - Best safety in the NFL today.

9. Orlando Pace - Another tackle to shut off the outside rush and let Faulk go off tackle for big gains.

10. Rod Smith - Catches everything thrown to him, good possession guy and can rack up the YAC (yards after catch) on short passes.

phoenix, I like eveything you have to say except warner, he isterribly overrated, I could qb the rams to atleast 5 wins next season if I was the starter, shit.  Honestly I don;t even see warner in my top 10 qb's, even though his arm is strong.  Do you think he could have the stats he has if not 4 4 great recievers, the best o line and the best rb in the nfl?
