Guest bcu1979 Report post Posted May 24, 2002 The WWE just put up an interesting story on what they call the "forgotten" TLC match. http://www.wwe.com/news/headlines/1141630 It has comments from most of the participants about their feelings on the match itself and the fallout from the match. I was very surprised by Jericho's and Edge's comments. All the participants seemed unhappy at the lack of follow up the match received but Edge and Jericho in particular seemed the most bitter. But more surprising than their bitterness is their openess to talk about it on wwe.com. The WWE has never looked fondly on wrestlers who speak out against the company line. I guess Jericho figures they can't kill his career more than they have already. And maybe he's not even going to re-sign. But I don't get Edge's comments when he is in the middle of his biggest push to date.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 24, 2002 I guess Edge figures nothing he can do will kill this push. He seems to be pushing the limits, though.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted May 24, 2002 Well gee.. I wonder why no one remember it. Maybe because it was on a fucking SMACKDOWN~!!!
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted May 24, 2002 What does that mean? More people watch the stuff on tv than pay the 30 bucks to watch it on ppv. so...what does that mean?
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 24, 2002 Why does everyone in this article take they "They HAD to do the match" attitude? I mean, sure, Benoit & Jericho were hot. But would it have killed the ratings to just do a classic 15-20 minutes tag match with one of those teams? Why do they go for the most dangerous shit when it's totally unneccessary. That's the kind of thinking that got Owen Hart killed.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 24, 2002 I didn't read the article, did they let Christian talk? Or did they bat him away with a stick when he tried to contribute?
Guest Report post Posted May 24, 2002 I totally agree with these guys. I remember the dirt-sheet writers bashing this match too. I liked Jericho's comments here, "It's like it's been forgotten, and that really bothers me, because you had eight guys who kicked ass and basically tore the house down, and it was never really mentioned again. And when it wasn't on the year-end WWE show, I was really, really pissed off. Really angry. Especially when I saw the Gravy Bowl Match and bulls*** matches like that. And you can print that. This great contest -- such an intense, kick-ass match -- was left out, and to this day that bothers me."
Guest godthedog Report post Posted May 25, 2002 i don't remember anybody bashing the match itself. SK gave it ****1/2 and meltzer said it was the best of the TLC matches. what i do remember is people being pissed off about making the guys do the match on a day's notice, which i completely agree with. the wwf acted with flagrant disregard for their employees when they said essentially "you're going to do a TLC match tonight." they freely admit that the whole thing had to be thrown together at the last minute, something that should NEVER EVER be done with a TLC match. whoever came up with the idea (probably vince) should be put in a room with no windows with those 8 guys. i'm not really suprised that this TLC is forgotten, cause a) it was done as hotshot booking to get some ratings & give the canadians some extra cred, b) it was done the same week as best match that year, and c) it was only 2 months after the last TLC. Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted May 25, 2002 It was the best TLC match of the three, but it was really overshadowed by both RAWs main event that week (Benoit/Jericho vs. Trip/Austin) and the awesome Smackdown main event the next week (Benoit/Austin). As for the year end show, what can I say? Marks are stupid.

Guest Report post Posted May 25, 2002 your house has strict tv watching policies No, I went to the Arrowhead Pond to see a Smackdown/Heat taping. I sat in the second to last row.

Guest alfdogg Report post Posted May 25, 2002 All I have to do is wait for it to be available on KaZaA again.
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted May 25, 2002 I like how at the end Jericho said, when he has another home video he's going to make sure the match is on there. It's about time Jericho got another video anyway with everything that's happened with him. The DVDs usually have the wrestler's "picks" for extra matches, so it's cool to hear Jericho wants in on there. I think Benoit needs one too, and hopefully the match vs. Austin from Smackdown in June would be included.
Guest Report post Posted May 25, 2002 This is the kind of stuff that needs to be on Confidential. Show the match, toss a couple of sound bites, you got a show. And Jericho's right, that year end show had lots of bullshit matches on it
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 25, 2002 I still haven't forgiven them for showing all those crap matches, plus endless stupid "Top 5" lists, and then clipping or skipping so many of the others. Any they could've shown a FEW less PPV matches that are easily available at Blockbuster and a few more off live TV, but oh well. As for the WW(F)E.com interview, it seems like that website has become the officially sanctioned place for the wrestlers to do a little shooting and air some minor bitching. Maybe they figure since it's mostly marks who go there anyway, it doesn't matter. Slapnuts, you're right, it is weird that Benoit never got a "best of" video while everyone from Jericho to Lita has one. Weird that Kane hasn't had one either. And as for the TLC match, jeez that was hell week for both of them, Benoit especially. First the tag-team turmoil match on Sunday (and Benoit also had that 2/3 falls match against Angle), the legendary Raw tag match on Monday, and having to follow it up with a TLC on Tuesday. Talk about hazing.
