E3 (the daddy of them all)

Recommended Posts

Guest Flyboy

Well, I'm been keeping up with E3 every since May 21st..

It's came and gone, and what system really pulled out the big guns this year?

From all I read, I would have to say Gamecube... I mean... the conference Nintendo had.  The opening that Mario had (or was it Zelda... memory slips me) w/ Miyamoto playing the game with Wave Bird (wireless GC controller).

They had Mario, Zelda, Metriod Prime, Eternal Darkness, SFA... all there.  Now, I'm anxious for these games to be released.

Hell, we even found out some of the Zelda plot.  *SPOILERS*

... In the Legend of Zelda game for GC, instead of trying to save Zelda or Hyrule this time.. Link is trying to save... his sister (Arill)?!

Not to diss the other systems or anything... I mean the pics of FFXI for PS2 were beautiful.  Star Wars Galaxies for PC looks like a must-buy for me.

But, I think GC really showed up to take the show this year...

Star Wars Galaxies? Any game that involves the phrase "monthly fee" doesn't get a second glance from me, no matter how cool it is.

I was wondering when someone would start an E3 topic. I sort of marked out when I found out that they're making a new Knight Rider game. Doom III, No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way and Republic: The Revolution are probably the games I'm most interested in.

Things I liked hearing about from E3:

Metroid Prime (sounds awesome)

Star Fox Adventures

Legend of Zelda

Super Mario Sunshine

Eternal Darkness (CAN'T WAIT)

The Getaway (PS2) (sounds like a realistic version of GTA3..they spent 3 years mapping London to the last detail...if it takes you 10 minutes to drive from one point to another in London...it takes that long in the game.  The cars handle real...damage real...sounds awesome)

Kingdom Hearts (PS2)

Evil Dead (PS2)

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

Resident Evil 0

Add those to WrestleMania X8, Silent Hill 3 (announced for PS2), Madden 2003, NHL 2003...and others.

And...did I here that Fire Pro 3d is coming to PS2 and Gamecube?

Yes you did...I wonder how they'll handle American wrestlers in this version.

Also, anyone know if the RPG Lionheart was shown at E3? During development, it was known as "Fallout Fantasy", because it's a medieval-style game using the Fallout-style SPECIAL system. I know there are a lot of fellow Fallout/Planescape Torment fans here--are you lookingn forward to this as much as I am?

I'm looking forward to almost everything bps21 mentioned plus Project Ego and Star Wars Galaxies.

I don't like the overly-kiddy atmosphere that Nintendo has chosen to use for the new Zelda game, but if it's anything like any previous Zelda game, it will have it where it counts: Gameplay.  Not to mention, the cell shading is very well done.  The game looks awesome.

SUPER MONKEY BALL 2!! [/caps] :P

I think PS2 and GC really gained from this E3, but not the X-Box.  They could have turned themselves around (well, not really) at E3... or at least tried to show us some exclusives that they had.  I think X-Box had a lackluster E3 showing...

I think a game that really got my attention was... Beach Spikers.  That seriously looks like a very fun game.

Girls... sand... balls.  *sighs*

And bps... I want to buy nearly all the GC games you named (don't have a PS2), but when they start coming out (most of them.. ED is June, baby!) I'd doubt I have the money to get them all.  -_-  The Legend of Zelda is looking like a MUST buy, though.

If that's what you're looking for, try DOA: Extreme Volleyball.

Hmmm... never heard of it.  What is it for?

I've looked at some sites looking for it, but came up empty.  I *think* I heard of it before... rings a bell..

I think I can find out for you, if you provide me some more info.  :P

BTW... will the PC version of Star Wars Galaxies have a monthly fee, too?  Or only the console versions?  I was probably going to get it for PC, but if it does... -_-

... I'll stop post hogging, now.  :P

Let me add a few things.

First off, theres a RPG with characters from FF and Disney Characters as well coming out for PS2 I believe.  Graphics are awesome, but I think the concept (DISNEY CHARACTERS) is a little stupid.

I bought the Sims when it first came out, but as much hype as its generating, I'll probably avoid the Sims Online for various reasons (one being my 14.4k connection).

Theres a Cel Shaded FPS called XIII, which looks pretty freakin awesome, but I dont know which platforms its going to be on.

Also of note is Dave Mirra XXX.  Take one guess about what the XXX stands for.  Its going to be rated M, and possibly AO(although its guaranteed that the AO version would get beat in the ground by government, news, parents groups and anyone else you can think of that would be against it)

Apparently, its features include Strip Biking(Male and Female characters, and apparently its going to go pretty far), Going to the Strip Club, and its supposed to be sorta like Conker's Bad Fur Day in relation to the humor and language and how serious the game takes itself.  Dave Mirra games suck, so I wonder how much of a sales boost this stunt will provide.

Anyway, everyone knows Im a Nintendo Fanboy at heart, and wham E3 was ruled by the BIG N.

Nintendo clearly had the larger quantity of outstanding must have games that will be out within the next year. Everyone by now knows the Trinity of Nintendo's own franchise games (Mario, Metriod, Zelda) are due out and are all MUST HAVES in just about everyone's book. But you also get Star Fox, Turok Evolution, Eternal Darkness (Probably the Cube's first hardware seller to people who say The Gamecube is too kiddy).   Plus PSO 1 and 2(which I'll probably get if I can get a cable modem at my dorm room in the fall..) and the new Resident Evil 0.

For us wrestling fans theres a someone shady port of Ledgends of Wrestling, UFC Throwdown (should be awesome, maybe more fun than WM X8) and WM X8 (possible letdown but still..)

The good part about this is that the majority of these games are only available on the Gamecube.

Ive said it many times, but I'll say it again.  I'll take a handful of AWESOME MUST HAVE games over a truckload of average to better than average games anyday of the week.

I think Nintendo is dropping because of too many kiddy games. Back then during the days of the NES and SNES they ruled, but now they suck monkey testicles.

I sounded so much of a X-Box fanboy/PS2 fanboy/GC Hater that it's not even funny.  I'm not going to even to start to rant on you.

Pretty much all MMORPGs have monthly fees, which in a way is a good thing, because I just know I would have even less of a life if I started. I didn't even know there was going to be a console version.

As for Lionheart, it's a PC game from Black Isle Studios (makers of Fallout, Planescape Torment, BG, etc..). The official site is here:

A few notes:

-Madden 2003 looks incredible from what I have read.  You can scout players, hold training camp, and play online starting this year.

-It seems like Hideo Kojima said his team is looking for a way to make an online Metal Gear game.  Wonder how it would work?

-Nice to hear that there will be an RPG Maker 2, I tried the first one and it seems like a great game for people with the patience and creativity.

-I hope we see a Fire Pro PS2 game in the States, at least it would give the WWF....er, E (argh!)games some competition.

-Seriously, can anyone name any "must buy" X-Box game except Halo?

I thoroughly searched and found that Black Isle were *suppose* to have Lionheart at E3, but apparently they didn't.  -_-  Checked all of Gamespot's E3 PC games and didn't find it.  I think they have some new pics of it (from the 22nd), but it wasn't at E3.

Madden 2003 *does* look incredible.

The online Metal Gear game is a mystery... sort of like how will Resident Evil: Online work (for PS2)?  Will players split into teams and go through the game together?  Will players play as the main characters while others play as zombies?  Mystery indeed.

A Fire Pro game for my GC will go nicely.  But, it rival WWE games?  Pfft... they have Crush Hour!  :P

I don't know about must buy X-Box games... I'll try to think of some that X-Box owners find very popular:

Halo, Jet Radio.. umm... whatever it's called.  You know the cel-shaded game, and Morrowmind (but it's on PC, too).  Future ones include... Halo 2 and Project Ego.. and that's about it, I think.  I think Halo & Halo 2 are coming to PC, anyways.. so.. looking sort of grim for X-Box, now.

On another subject... although many people say it looks like a disappointment (I don't really care) I finished paying off my reservation for WMX8!  Now, must wait until June 11th... patience.

The Disney RPG is called Kingdom Hearts.

Its for PS2 and it is getting rave...um...preveiws.

Its made by Square (Final Fantasy of course) and all indication say that it puts other RPGs to shame.

As for the use of Disney characters...most previews spend half of the time ranting on people who scoff at that...after they have gotten in on the playing.

Yeah, I saw Kingdom Hearts on Tech TV's game show Extended Play, and I was like, WTF is this.  I figured it was Squares Nintendo game lol.  That would set the Big N Attitude back a few notches.  The graphics were gorgeous, but Disney characters? eh..

From gamespot:

After explaining the details of the Xbox Online at the company's pre-E3 press conference today, Microsoft unveiled the lineup of games for the service. Xbox-exclusive titles include Unreal Championship, MechAssault, Whacked, NFL Fever 2003, and Midtown Madness 3, while additional titles include Counter-Strike, Star Wars Galaxies, Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder 2, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six RavenShield, XIII, NFL 2K3, and NBA 2K3.

Ed Fries, Microsoft's vice president of Xbox game content, stated that not only will Project Gotham Racing, Amped, and Rallisport Challenge receive follow-ups, but those follow-ups will be available online.

..as an X-Box fanatic, I have to clear a misconception up. The X-Box is NOT nearly as bad as people think it is. Advertising from competing companies, and MS's reputation have caused a lot of people to turn a blind eye to the console. "True Gamers" my ass. For anybody who's looking clear enough, 'box lovers have a lot to look forward to.

An online Halo sequel. This is wonderful news for the people that love this game. Amazing FPS. The multiplayer is already a blast, and online chaos should be fun.

Microsoft announced that the next installment in Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden series will be released exclusively for the Xbox. (- Gamespot.com) YES! This brings joy to my old-school self. Those games on the NES were hard as hell, but fun, and with Tecmo, it's bound to look amazing.

Unreal Championship: I don't even need to say anything. Much fun.

Mech Assault: I've always loved the MechWarrior games, and I'm hoping this one will be as good as the previous ones.

Star Wars Galaxies AND Knights Of the Old Republic: Big names, if they're both good.

There are lots of other games out there. This console will not come up short, I assure you.

-Shiro

I can't believe Ninja Gaiden is going to X-Box. Ninja Gaiden belongs on a Nintendo system.
