Meltzer's rating of angle vs. edge

Recommended Posts

Guest wolverine

Believe it or not, Meltzer gave Angle vs. Edge from Judgment Day ****1/2.  I figured it would be a good match, but c'mon now.  That sounds ridiculously high.  Then again, his rating last May for the Raw tag title match (****3/4) was ridiculously high as well.

Well, the Torch in comparison gave it ***1/2 which is closer but not nearly as low as I thought it was.

I also don't agree with Keith on his thoughts on the HIAC in that I think the basic idea was that Triple H was so confident going into the match that he left himself open to some of the same mistakes that Foley made. That match got ***3/4 from the Torch.

By Raw tag match, you mean Team Chris vs. Trips & Austin, right?  That match was **** easily, in my opinion.  The heat was unreal for that match.  Of course, half of the combatants had to get injured within the month...

Meltzer also gave HIAC ***3/4.

Yeah, the Austin/HHH vs. Benoit/Jericho match is the one I'm referring to.  I agree with the **** rating.  But no more than that.

****1/2 is far too high

The two really struggled in the first 10 minutes, just swapping spots without any build or intention to maintain an advantage. The match really picked up at the end though and they managed to knock up some great near falls.

I'd give it ***1/2

i'd give angle/edge ****1/2, i thought it was better than their last match & the match of the year so far.

and ****3/4 is not ridiculously high for the tag match on raw.  everybody and their mother gave that match ****3/4.

Meltzer really has been overrating alot of matches lately.  ****1/2 to me is like Austin/Bret Wrestlemania 13, or Kobashi/Misawa 1/20/97.  Almost flawless matches.

I agree that Edge/Angle is more like a ***1/2. Which means it was very good.

The HIAC is more lika a **+ IMO.  Very average match.

I think Austin vs. Bret from WM 13 is ****3/4.  Misawa vs. Kobashi 1/20/97 is *****+.

I thought HIAC was a pretty good effort actually, certainly a better match than I thought it would be since Jericho is very medicore these days and Triple H only shows glimses of his old form.

I'd probably rate it similar to Angle/Edge

I give Angle-Edge about ****1/4. I liked it a lot better than Backlash. I got into it more.

I give HIAC about ***1/2- it was a fun match but too slow.

What did Meltzer give the RVD/Eddie match at JD?  Keith actually rated it higher than HIAC or the Edge/Angle match, and I agree.

According to the DVDVR board, Meltz rated RVD/Eddy at ***3/4. Again, this is far too high as far as I'm concerned, Eddy totally sleepwalked through the match and RVD certainly can't carry anyone.

I'd give it ***

Meltzer gave it **3/4 stars. He said the match was decent but still disappointing. In his commentary, he seemed to think RVD's chance to move up to the next level had closed for now after his matches the last couple months.
