Jampack Volume 13

Recommended Posts

Chronicles of Narnia: Impressive art direction, decent music, gameplay is boring as heck. Hack n' slash action with poor controls, but darnit it looks kind of cool. Some nice ideas that could stand more polish in the final game. It gets really tedious fighting off enemies when your goal for an area is just to hack through the barrier.

Castlevania Curse of Darkness: (covered in the CV thread)

Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood: Not my bag, but tutorial at least gave me a loose grasp of the gameplay, controls seem good, no gripes about visuals/sound. What I played was pretty fun, although I can't give an accurate report of how well it stacks up to the previous game/other games in the genre.

Ratchet Deadlocked: It doesn't really feel like such a radical departure from the series, just a continuation of the direction UYA was heading. So, craploads more combat, but with an engine that's highly polished after three games. However, the sound is pretty much drowned out by all the explosions and laser blasts. And while it's a demo, your robot squad doesn't seem too terribly effective. Final should be well worth picking up, as I loved this demo even though I miss the platforming. The LANDSTALKER rules.

Jak X: Incredible visuals, decent controls, but I spent most of my time playing the game getting utterly obliterated as one guy blasts me, and in one shot leaves me a flaming wreckage. Then I continue with a new vehicle and having lost my lead. Meh.

Sly 3: Really good, even though it's nothing radical as sequels go. More controllable characters this time around, very polished gameplay even though though it's not that innovative. The mood, humor, feel makes me think of the Banjo games with a better framerate and less junk collection.

Burnout Revenge: You've played this game already.

Soul Calibur III: You've pretty much played this game already as well, but the character creation stuff looks great so far. Several new moves seem present as well, but hardly any playables were present, and out of the new ones only Tira was available to play as in the demo (versus only). There's several random custom characters you can view when taking a crack at 1p, great for showing off what the mode can do.

Shadow of the Colossus: Well, I sucked at this demo, but it's already got its own thread. :) The 1st (?) Colossus took tons of hits and I could barely damage it at all. Guess there's a trick to it...

Genji Dawn of the Samurai: Okay, I had *no* expectations going into this and was burnt out by this point...but damnit, I'm impressed. Okay, action game with tons of enemies jumping out, you have to hack 'em up/stay alive. However, it feels so incredibly smooth and fun I had to keep playing it for a bit. Plus, knocking guys' torsos right off, leaving their bodies a blood-gushing waist and legs that drop to the ground--what's not to love?
