Guest Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Yeah it's early, but since Memorial Day is on Monday, I figured it'd be a decent time to throw this out there. Plus, Jericho's comments about last year's show got me thinking. Toss in your nominees for the Top 10 matches of 2002 show that TNN puts on New Year's Eve. At this time last year, you could have filled a whole show with the matches that had taken place. This year, well.......... It hasn't been a good year. Anyhoo, I'll start, in no particular order 1 - Angle/Edge - Backlash 2 - Angle/Edge - Judgement Day 3 - RVD/Eddy - Judgement Day 4 - Rock/Jericho - Royal Rumble 5 - RVD/Spike vs Regal/Eddy - Raw (4/15) 6 - Hogan/Rock - WM18 (Just for the crowd) 7 - Undertaker/RVD - Raw (4/8) 8 - Kidman/Tajiri - Backlash That's all I could think of without looking up all the old Raw and Smackdown reports. Pretty lousy list
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 25, 2002 My comments in italics 1 - Angle/Edge - Backlash Angle carried Edge's worthless ass 2 - Angle/Edge - Judgement Day Angle carried Edge's worthless ass 3 - RVD/Eddy - Judgement Day Not as good as it could have been 4 - Rock/Jericho - Royal Rumble Match of the year, better than Angle/Edge because both guys made the match 5 - RVD/Spike vs Regal/Eddy - Raw (4/15) Okay, I guess 6 - Hogan/Rock - WM18 (Just for the crowd) Eh. 7 - Undertaker/RVD - Raw (4/8) Goldust/RVD was better 8 - Kidman/Tajiri - Backlash Not a fan of cruisers. Throw in some of the women's matches as well.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Gotta back up the 'sault on this one. Rock/Jericho is the only thing that is MOTY material. All the other stuff is just ok. It may throw the judging curve some, but Rock/Jericho is the hands down MOTY so far in WWE.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted May 25, 2002 1) Angle/Edge both times are MOTY canidates. Now, that means very little compaired to last year, but it's still true. 2) Jericho/Rock was great stuff. Then again, they had better matches last year, so that trend continues. 3) What's with the Cruiser hate? The current crop doesn't hold much on the division WCW had going, but there have been signs of potential in there. Once they get more than four wrestlers, things should pick up. 4) HHH/Austin won last year, which was utter tripe and ruins any "prestige" this award would have anyway. Then again, just including a Bikini match on the list kind of takes care of that on it's own. 5) Once Benoit returns I have a feeling the snowflakes will be back with a vengence. Guest Report post Posted May 25, 2002 "Rock/Jericho is the only thing that is MOTY material. All the other stuff is just ok" I totally agree with you guys, that was kind of the point. There has only been one or two really good matches this year, unlike the first five months of last year, which gave us Austin/Angle, Austin/HHH, Rock/Angle, Rock/Austin, TLC2 and 3, Benoit/Jericho, Benoit/Angle 1,2,3, and Austin/HHH vs Benoit/Jericho all before June 1. The fact that average matches like Angle/Edge ever get mentioned is a sad commentary on the first half of the year.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Not to be a nitpicker, But Benoit/Angle 1, 2, 3, and 4 The Raw cage match Edit, Nevermind, that was after June

RVD Vs. William Regal is average. Edge Vs. Booker T is average. Angle Vs. Edge was great. Not excellent. Not amazing. Great. It's a slow year, but show Angle due love. He's earned it. Guest Brian Report post Posted May 25, 2002 There was nopthing great in either match. Neither was the best match on their respective show. Tajiri and Kidman carried a better story at BackLash and Eddie/RVD was alot better than it looked the first time around. Plus the HITC. Those three matches should all gets nods above the Angle/Edge stuff. Both matches were disappointing, ***1/4 peak for the BackLash showing. I guess that's a good match, but they should be better. I wasn't dissapointed at all. There is only so far Angle could carry Edge's deadweight.

I guess that's a good match, but they should be better. 1) Tajiri and Kidman, while great and all, are not up to par with Angle/Edge. Too much awkwardness between spots, Kidman not knowing what to do no actual developement of their feud. It wasn't a story, it was a bunch of nice-looking spots that made people pop and stuff. 2) I'll agree with you on RVD/Eddy II being better than Edge/Angle II, mainly because Eddy selling was just great and I disliked the way Edge/Angle ended, making it seem unclimactic considering it was supposed to blow off the feud. However, Edge/Angle from Backlash still beats both Eddy/RVD matches for me. Just great pacing and both men sold wonderfully. Both guys bumped better and told a better story, in my opinion. 3) Hell in the Cell was not up to par with the afformentioned matches. It was brutal, entertaining, and good, but not much else. However, I find it interesting that people are critisizing that match for needlessly borrowing from other HIAC's because of lack of thing to do, while the match that won this little contest last year (HHH/Austin) was just as guilty of all of that. Whatever, more proof this award doesn't mean much to begin with.
Guest Brian Report post Posted May 25, 2002 I liked HITC borrowing at the parts where Triple H was using Foley spots, because Triple H was getting too confident and missing things like this. Everything in this match dictated that Jericho was winning.

The current crop doesn't hold much on the division WCW had going, but there have been signs of potential in there. Once they get more than four wrestlers, things should pick up. Because, according to Anglesault, cruiser matches are nothing more than 10 minutes of continuous 30-flips-culminating-in-an-armdrag spots.
