Guest Redhawk Report post Posted May 25, 2002 Okay, so I see Jose on "The Best Damn Sports Show," and he's furiously plugging his soon-to-come autobiography. He says it could possibly ruin Major League Baseball and generally cause World War 3 and 4. I admit that I know REALLY want to read this book, but my problem is this: Jose has pumped it up so much that it makes it even more likely to be a huge let-down. Unless he really brings the goods, like Mark McGwire was on crack, or Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling are gay lovers, than how can it not be disappointing? Guest DrTom Report post Posted May 26, 2002 "... how can it not be disappointing?" Well, people who write books that are "tell-all" usually don't. Also, this is just going to be Canseco trying to get back at the game he feels has blacklisted him. I wouldn't be surprised if he made up half the shit he's going to write about, just to sell more books and keep his name out there longer. If you want to waste your money on his bitter diatribes, go ahead, but don't sign me up.
Guest Report post Posted May 26, 2002 I don;t know, I will buy it first day cause it sounds interesting. Even if he makes shit up it will still probably be funny. Even if he "accused" unit and schilling of being gay lovers, it would still be fuckin hilarious. --Rob
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted May 26, 2002 Canseco's book does sound interesting. Being someone who started watching baseball in '87 where the local stations broadcast A's and iants games I was immediately a McGwire and Canseco fan. McGwire definitely gained a massive amount of muscle mass during his career and I doubt it's natural, Canseco was obviously juicing and Bonds gained a ton of weight during an off-season and I doubt it's because he just got a nutritionalist. Supplements, lifting and diet can only go so far, such quick muscle growth has to be attributed to being on the juice on some capacity. I doubt Canseco will have to make shit up because like wrestling you're in a highly-public envronment, travel alot, have tons of money, groupies everywhere, pressure to be on top by any means; plus he doesn't want to get sued for making stuff up. I bet their are tons of lurid stories out there involving MLB players. BTW, didn't Canseco seem a little weird on TBDSS, he was blinking and flinching an awful lot which makes me wonder if he wasn't on something.

He did the same thing on The Last Word with Jim Rome. I'm gonna check it out. It looks to be a curious read. Plus, I want to know why he thinks he's blacklisted. An I also was an Oakland A's fan. Immediately dug the Mcgwire & Canseco Bash Brothers. Mcgwire became my favorite player an i use to pretend I was him when playing baseball. Yeah the man did gain massive amount of muscle. An yeah he probably did take roids. Which is ashame maybe that is why he kept getting injured. Well you still have to have the skills though to hit the ball. But if you did it without the roids then you be truly skillful. You can add Ken Caminiti to the list of Roid User. He admitted it. Said he was on them when he won the MVP. I guess people will do just about anything. To get the little edge above the other players. But when you live on that edge you're gonna fall off sooner or later.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 29, 2002 That's why I'll respect players like Ken Griffy Jr and Sosa. Unlike, Bonds, Mcgwire and others...They never used juice. Look at Junior...he's still as scrawny as he was when he went to Moller High School. Let Conseco make his shit up...nobody intelligent will take it seriously. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted May 29, 2002 How do you know Sosa doesn't? Because he says he doesn't. Sosa added alot of muscle to his frame in a short amount of time.I don't know if he did or even does juice but it honestly wouldn't shock me if he did at some point. Oh and about Canseco's twitch he's done that his entire career.

Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted May 29, 2002 Its funny that Caminti now admits to using roids during his MVP season now that Canseco going to write that tell all book. As far as Sosa he went from a basestealer from to a homerun machine he claims that he takes vitamins and nothing else, so I don't know. Canseco's book might be full of bitterness since he claims he was blackballed but he was in the White Sox organization last year and during the season this year. Well if he does tell all forget any chance of getting in the Hall of Fame or taking a baseball related job.
Guest DragonflyKid Report post Posted May 29, 2002 On his rookie card Sosa was listed as 165lbs, now he is at 220 which is a massive weight gain in around 10 years on a 6-foot frame. On Griffeys rookie card he is listed at 195lbs, now he's 205lbs so he hasn't gained that much weight in 12 years or so. McGwire in '87 was listed at 225lbs, he was around 250 when he retired, thats 25 pounds on a 6'5 frame over a 15 year career which actually isn't as outrageous as I had thought. In 1989 Bonds was listed at 185lbs, now he's around 228 and that weight hasn't accumulated overtime it's happened in the last few yers. Sosa and Bonds have gained the most weight and have also seen their homerun numbers explode the mose if that tells you anything. I wish I had the year by year weight gain statistics but I'm too lazy to look over the baseball cards I have and I haven't collected over the last few years anyway. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted May 30, 2002 Jose just comes off like a bitch in all of this. I wonder if he's going to talk about his own roid use... He's crying cause no teams will pick him up, so he retires...he says teams blackballed him...gee, maybe it's cause his numbers are a sad shade of what they use to be...I hate these people who blame everyone but themselves for their screw ups. So now he's going to make a buck at everyone else's expense cause he's a crybaby who's just not as good as he use to be.
