Awesome 1-2-3 punches in albums.

Recommended Posts

Neutral Milk Hotel, in the aeroplane Over the sea

"ghost", "(untitled)", "two headed boy, pt. 2"

ITAOTS, Two-Headed Boy Part 1, and Holland 1945 would be the ultimate 1-2-3 punch if they weren't separated by The Fool. But it flows better the way it is.

bump

Rain Dogs

Singapore-Clap Hands-Cemetery Polka

Pleased To Meet Me

I.O.U.-Alex Chilton-I Don't Know

Another Green World

Sky Saw-On Fire Island-St. Elmo's Fire

Those are all 1, 2, and 3, in addition to being sequential. Neat!

Berlin

Lady Day-Men Of Good Fortune-Caroline Says I

Funeral

Neighborhood 1-Neighborhood 2-Une Année Sans Lumiere-Neighborhood 3 is a 1-2-3-4! punch, but Neighborhood 4 never gets off the ground so no 5. And besides once you're calling half an album really awesome you're treading beyond the premise anyway.

Ghostface Killah- Fishscale

3. Kilo's

4. The Champ

6. 9 Milli Bros.

(There's a skit on track 5 so I'm not gonna count that.)

Call me Anglesault on this one, but somebody's gonna have to explain this whole "skits on albums" thing to me. I'm not even gonna raise a stink about it, because I like this thread concept, and I don't want to derail it like I derail all the other music threads. So just clear this up for me and we'll be back on our way. I mean, everyone says they're dumb and don't add anything to it. So what's the point of skits?

Yeah. That skit in question is actually only, like, 6 seconds long. They fit in rap albums since it's generally such an emphatically vocal medium, and while often just a waste of time, they can be great. Actually, I think the new Ghostface album uses them pretty well--extremely brief transitional pieces, or thematic introductions to songs that follow (i.e. "Bad Mouth Kid" and "Whip You With a Strap"). I feel that rap skits had their heyday with Niggaz4life, The Chronic, and Doggystyle, and a lot of the Ice Cube and Eazy-E stuff in that same period was similarly good.

Pink Floyd: Welcome to the Machine

1) Shine on, you Crazy Diamond i-v

2) Welcome to the Machine

3) Have A Cigar

4) Wish You Were Here

5) Shine on, you Crazy Diamond vi-ix

Which three were you referring to? Though it hardly matters, as that's the best album by ratio for my money of all time.

U2, The Joshua Tree, "Where The Streets Have No Name", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "With Or Without You" (followed by "Bullet The Blue Sky")

Awesomeness.

This is the exact album I thought of when I saw this topic.

Yeah, you and the whole board. Probably the most famous 1-2-3 punch in rock, especially notable since after "Bullet The Blue Sky" the whole thing just peters out.

Man, I fucking hate Bullet The Blue Sky.

Granted, I'm not a U2 fan at all, but could somebody please explain to me why that song is held in such high regard by their fans?

I can tell you it's not because of "ONE HUNDRED! TEW HUNDRED!"

Weezer - "Pinkerton": Across the Sea, The Good Life, El Scorcho (alternatively: The Good Life, El Scorcho, Pink Triangle)

o i bet u could say n e 3 songs from pinkerton apply! =w= <3!

I know you're being sarcastic, but no. The center of that album is quality, while the ends are a bit uneven.

Tom Waits - Closing Time

'Ol' 55'

'I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You'

'Virginia Avenue'

Just go with it. The melody machine bust a cog or two before the final hit.

I think it might be because, for a lot of U2 fans, that about as heavy as music gets, so it's kind of a novelty? I like some of the swooshy guitar sounds.

By the way, to hell with the first two albums; the Stooges never offered up a better example than tracks 4, 5 & 6 on Raw Power. 5, 6, 7's feasible also, but I prefer 'Penetration' to 'Shake Appeal'.

Also, a mix I made of Use Your Illusion I & II, and I've done that for most double albums that have filler on both discs.I've also got a ton of Mixtapes, (Ones by DJs and one's I put together, mine don't have anybody yelling throughout the songs, though ** ) and CDs if anybody wants to trade shit though a fileshare site.

* ~In no way do I think this is Ozzy's best 3 chronological songs. I just busted out this disk again for the first time in a few years.~

** ~Unless I'm REALLYFUCKINDRUNK, or way too high.~
