Enigma Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 TNA Wrestling has been granted a 2-hour, Monday night special on Monday, February 13th, 2006 on Spike TV at 9pm, RAW's old time-slot on the network. RAW is pre-empted that night due to the Westminster Dog Show on USA Network. RAW will instead be taped that week and air as Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC on Saturday, February 18th, 2006, going head to head with TNA Impact. It should be noted that when WCW Monday Nitro debuted, RAW was pre-empted due to the U.S. Open (tennis) on USA. Spike TV will be keeping their eye on the Monday special's rating closely and if there is a marginal spike in the rating, the odds of a new Monday Night War taking place will be extremely better. credit: PWInsider Elite
Guest *KNK* Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I swear, every 6 hours, TNA gets another Primetime special. I'm starting to think by Saturday morning, TNA will get a Primetime special on CBS this spring.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I remember hearing that this was planned back when the deal was signed. It's a brilliant move since that stupid Dog Show always puts Raw on hiatus...and there's a bunch of wrestling viewers with nothing to watch. I think this was the first planned special Spike had given TNA. The one tonight was just supposed to be a one hour Impact since they're preempted on Saturday for UFC. The New Year's Eve special and the plans for it are sweet...but this is even better.
Guest ABOBO Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Has a wrestling promotion ever been pushed this heavy by a television company?
The Ghost of bps21 Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 ECW was pushed...out the door...equally as hard...if not harder by Spikes previous incarnation.
Enigma Posted November 4, 2005 Author Report Posted November 4, 2005 Has a wrestling promotion ever been pushed this heavy by a television company? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't know, but I'm betting Paul Heyman wishes the current management was in place back when ECW was on this network.

RedJed Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 Figured this was going to happen but interesting to see that they have already announced it this soon. That shall be an interesting week in wrestling, also consider the fact that SNME will go head to head for a half hour with Impact as well and TNA better have their gameface on that week. That will easily be their biggest true test of proving themselves (both the Monday show and what the follow up with for that next Sat's Impact to compete with WWE), even more than tonight's show by far. Looking back, I dont blame them one bit for going dark in the face of not accepting the WGN deal. Spike has given them a great chance here to succeed.
TNABaddboi Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 The good news keeps on coming for TNA. That means that between now and February, they'll have three opportunities to prove to Spike that they deserve a better timeslot or at least another hour on Saturdays. And they get some kickass exposure on New Year's Eve as well. I never dreamed that TNA would be such an enviable position when they walked out on the WGN deal. Now we know what Dixie was thinking...
Guest OSIcon Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I am pretty sure I read that that the Feburary spot was going to go to UFC originally, but SpikeTV just recently decided to go with TNA in that slot. It makes more sense to put TNA there given that they are getting ratings that Spike is happy with and it makes more sense to put a wrestling show in a slot decided to capture wrestling fans.
Guest Leelee Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 It's a brilliant move since that stupid Dog Show always puts Raw on hiatus Stupid dog show that's consistently around a 4.0 I just hope TNA puts on another special for the last week of August and first week of September.
2GOLD Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 I'm just pleased that TNA is doing well enough that Spiketv plans to have it on the AIR in Feb. The special is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned.
dubq Posted November 4, 2005 Report Posted November 4, 2005 It says a lot about TNA when I can actually sit through EVERY match on a two hour show and not be bored for once instant, yet I can't be bothered to even TRY to watch WWE Raw. This is coming from a guy who taped Raw religiously for almost ten years.

At this rate, they'll have 13 of these special primetime shows a year.
