Favourite dvd studios

What is your favourite studio for releasing DVD's? You should take into effect quantity, quality and features of discs released by the studio.

List your favourite big, corporate studio (Warner, MGM, Universal etc) and smaller, alternate studio (Image, Anchor Bay, Synapse).

As for my favourites:

Corporate Studio: MGM. They have done a good job of releasing a lot of older, catalogue titles very cheap (usually $15-$17) in widescreen. In some cases they even make them special editions for the same price or slightly more. Being a big fan of horror/thriller/sci-fi, MGM has done a great job of providing cool discs of their older titles.

Alternate Studio: Anchor Bay. Man, I LOVE Anchor Bay. Like I said, I like horror, and Anchor Bay has been a godsend in that department. If you like Italian horror, Anchor Bay has released films that were never even available in North America, or at least were only available edited. Anchor Bay releases them uncut, in widescreen and usually with decent features. The same can be said with AB releases of 80's North American horror titles. I'd estimate I in my personal DVD collection, I probably have at least 100 Anchor Bay discs.

Anchor Bay rules it! Italian horror movies (especially Dario Argento films :)), stuff from Hammer Films, weird old b-movies and Werner Herzog films. I love Anchor Bay.

I also agree on MGM, for the same reasons.

EDIT: I mean for the same reasons C.H.U.D listed, not the same as for Anchor Bay.

I love Fox DVD's, Fight Club, X-men, ID4.  The ***** collection is the shat!

The studio I hate the most, incase you haven't noticed already....UNIVERSAL due to all of their double & triple dipping.

Tai Seng is my favorite studio for Hong Kong movies, especially with Bride With White Hair which has special features that beats the other import studios.  Besides previews, there is commentary by the director Ronny Yu, behind the scenes documentary, choice of language, English subtitles.

Dimension release of the Kevin Smith movies are pretty good.  Deleted scenes, commentary, music videos, Comedy Central special and DVD Rom features.

A lot of the corporate companies are doing great jobs with their DVD movies.

MGM has good SE DVDs for cheap prices (UHF!!), Miramax/Dimension/Buena Vista/Disney totally loaded the Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back DVD, and Warner despite those damn snappers have pretty good DVD releases which are also cheap like MGM.

As for smaller companies, Pioneer since they got all the Animé movies and Best of ECW DVDs.

I'm going to go with MGM's Midnite Movies on this one, just because they're affordable releases of niche and possibly obscure material that even have special features sometimes!

As for non-major label, I'm going to say Anchor Bay with Criterion Collection in a very close second.  If Criterion's discs were a little cheaper and they would put out a Metropolis disc, or if Anchor Bay releases ONE MORE version of Halloween, Criterion'll be best non-major label with Anchor Bay in a very close second.

Oh, never mind, I forgot about Tempe.  Their releases of their own material and Full Moon's are pretty loaded as far as low-budget horror goes, even going so far as including a bonus movie from Low Budget Pictures on their two most recent releases.  They're also just as affordable as a Midnite Movies disc.  Scratch that last paragraph... Tempe first, Anchor Bay second, Criterion close third.

New Line with Fox for major labels. Between Platinum Editions and Infinifilms New Line's are always loaded. Same thing for Fox always quality and always loaded.

For small labels I've got to go with Rhino. Just because they brought Transformers to DVD and it looks great!
