Kevin Millwood Everyone knows Johan Santana was the best pitcher in the A.L. but writers can't get over the win/loss record. How'd Cliff Lee get more votes than Buehrle? How'd Cliff Lee get more votes than Buehrle? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because of the win/loss records again. Lee compiled an 18-5 record, for the best winning percentage in the league. Mark Buehrle lost out because his type, inning eaters without dominant stuff, are always overlooked in these votes (see Wilbur Wood, 1971). I don't know how you would break down who would and would not be allowed to vote though. This isn't as bad as Randy Johnson getting overlooked last year, but it's right up there.
