The one and only memorial day thread

Right now, I'm incredibly bored at work (got stuck opening, pulling a 9-5'er).  That's why I started the thread.  Hopefully some of you guys are having a better time than me (but if you are, you probably won't be on the message board.)

I'm about to go leave to grill some burgers with my dad.  After that, I'm going to finally go see Star Wars (and hopefully sneak into Spiderman or something else afterwards).  Then tonight I'll probably go help (i.e. stand around and watch) some of my friends shoot some segments for their local wrestling show.

I just woke up and am now watching this ultra-lame Best of Backyard Wrestling show on DirecTV.

Since I have no life and live for all five of my fans, I'm writing a Starrcade 1988 review and watching the X-File's marathon on FX.

wh00! I'm sure all my loving, adoring fans were wondering how they were cursed with two days on the board without me.  I'm sure all my hating, loathing enemies are wondering how they were cursed with my returning after two days on the board without me.  Anyway... I was going to start a Memorial Day thread all my own, but proving once again that he gets the best ideas before I do, good ol' Zack started at first.

That being said, on Saturday I drove up with my family to Garberville, in Northern Northern California (not this "Bay Area" Northern California crap... I'm talking two hours from Oregon Northern California).  Ummm... so we arrived, and nothing really happened.  Before I fell asleep at the hotel I watched most of Wishmaster 3.  It struck such a chord with me that I'm going to review it in a future column.

Zzzz.... Sunday! I woke up to a block of Spiderman cartoons, thus r0x0ring my s0x0rs for the day.  We were supposed to meet some family friends for breakfast, but we were running late and missed one of them.  D'oh! But it didn't matter in the end because we got to go back and watch Satellite TV! Switching between MTV2 (music videos? what the funk?), "Max Headroom" on TechTV (never heard of the channel or show before but my parents seemed to like it...), and "Godzilla" and "Valley of the Dinosaurs" on Boomerang (I really want that channel) took up the rest of the afternoon.  There wasn't much else to do, but it's always been like that, so we chilled until dinner and went out to eat at an Italian/Mexican/Chinese/Americana restaurant (I think because there are such few restaurants they have to squeeze as diverse a menu they can into each one).  The food was all right, but I had my eye on the late teens-early 20's waitresses (say what you will about hippies, but their daughters are HOT!).

Zzzzz... huh? What do you mean I have to get up? I don't have school, it's a vacation... Spiderman encouraged me to get up, we left, wandered around town, I went to the local CD store, and no, it isn't just bastard corporate mall outlets that have the gall to ask almost $20 for a CD... I ended up buying the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique for $12.  Then we left and I just got back... or rather would have if I hadn't spent so damn long writing what I did.

Anyway... here's what I read and listened to during the trip up and back: Macbeth by William Shakespeare, In Search of Dracula: A true history of Dracula and vampire legends by Raymond T. McNally & Radu Florescu, The Winter of our Discontentment by John Steinbeck, Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Green Day - Kerplunk, Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (is it just my discman or was this album mastered REALLY poorly?), Marvelous 3 - Hey! Album, Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade - Live Frogs Set 1, Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow, Elvis Costello - My Aim is True, Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters.

So yea... that was my weekend.  Later, I'm going to fill out college forms that are due by the end of this week, watch RAW (...what? I can't believe it either), and write a column.  Right now, I'm on my sister's computer, and since she "banned wrestling" on her computer (lucky for me this is general chat! ::claps hands.  Mysterious individual comes to provide EVIL LAUGHTER~!::) I won't be able to "catch up" on the 47 posts I missed so far to keep up 16 posts a day or try and figure out what the hell happened in OAOAT while I was away.  All I can say is when I'm gone for a week at the end of June, catching up is gonna be a BIYATCH!

Oooh.  Good choice.  That and Trail of Dead are my two favorite 2002 releases thus far.

My Memorial Day weekend sucked, yo.  On Saturday, I went with my father and brother to a little slice of heaven known as Big Spring State Park.  How this deserted area, featuring a modest playground and half-mile nature trail, was deemed a state park is beyond me.  Either way, it wasn't much fun.  We then went swimming, which was fun.  As usual, that fun turned to agony the next day as I can't spend more than 30 shirtless minutes outdoors without turning into a lobster.  I have a lot of interesting sunburn anecdotes, actually.  I'll share them sometime.  Beyond that, I've done nothing this weekend.  Memorial Day is a sham.

Oh, wait.  I also had a private screening of "Where The Boys Aren't 11."  That is all.

"In Search of Dracula: A true history of Dracula and vampire legends by Raymond T. McNally & Radu Florescu"

Small world, I have that book.  But isn't Radu the name of the vampire in the Subspecies movies?

My mom's Boyfriend's family (follow me?) came over and had a BBQ. None of mine did, so I just played Halo, Rogue Squadron and Hunter all day. Pretty laid back.

From a technical standpoint, I was driving from Orlando, Florida, back to my town. A friend and I visited a pal that lives there on Friday and stayed for the weekend.

Since the new day starts at midnight, we did find ourselves at Cocoa Beach from around 12:30 to 2am. There we drank beer (Bud Ice; it was my first time with it and I wasn't particularly impressed), saw a sea turtle, and marvelled at how bright the moon was, bright enough to reflect the pale, white ass that was bobbing away between someone's open thighs, blissfully unaware (?) that a trio of beer drinking college kids were standing not ten feet away from them.

Both are definitely great releases, but if I had to choose between the two I'd pick ...And You Shall Know Us By The Trail of Dead, but that might be just because I've listened to that one more.

That's cool about the book, I just picked it up a week and a half ago because the school library had a bunch of books for free and I said "ooh... Dracula!".  Yea, I'm pretty sure the Subspecies character's name is Radu.  Actually, for someone who likes Full Moon so much, I've never seen any of the Subspecies films (though I have read a Subspecies mini-comic that Tempe sent me with an order).  I know the stories connect somehow, but I'm not sure if they connect very closely or use some of the same plot elements.  The reason this is so important is because, as usual, your friendly neighborhood Hollywood Video only has part 4, and I don't want to see the series out of order if it matters.

I've only seen part 2, but from what I can gather the same characters are involved in all of the movies, though the actors that play them change sometimes I think.  So yeah, see 'em in order.  They've got the standard Neo-Gothic eastern Europe flavor that makes all Full Moon flicks so fun (Dark Angel: The Ascent truly does rule the world).

Dark-haired, somewhat exotic looking chick. I'm sure if you did a Google search for "Leslie Glass", you'd come up with some pics.
