Georgia was the #3 BCS team at the end of the '02 season and I don't remember many people singing their praises, much less USC

What was USC ranked b/c OU finished that season ranked #4. Man that is craziness.

OU might finish this season unranked. Kind of weird when since 2000 they've finished 1, 4, 4, 3, and 3.

Yeah but I was talking about how everyone finished. I know OU was a 2 loss team in 2001 and 2002 but they won their bowl games in convincing fashion so they got the nod to be the #4 team both of those years.

I don't think they release BCS after the bowl games, since it's essentially irrelevant by that point, but Georgia and USC won both their games while Iowa lost (to USC), so the highest OU could have finished was fifth

I'd say last year's USC team was better than this one. But it's hard to pick their 1-loss team ahead of an undefeated one.

I also had some uber-homer USC fan telling me about how the 2002 team was the greatest 2-loss team of all time, and that they should have been viewed as "co-champions" (whatever the hell that means) or some other such nonsense.

What kind of crazy nonsense talk is that? Did they think they got screwed out of the national title shot or something?

No it's definitely not that, but I still don't understand exactly what he was talking about. He was babbling something about how USC were the hottest team by the end and that he wanted to see them play tOSU to see who the best team was, and that there are "writers" (nothing elaborated here) that recognize them as "champions, but not the national champion".

Don't ask me to figure out what all that means.

TCU has accepted an invite to the Houston Bowl which had an open bid with the SEC unable to fill it. Mountain West allows this as they have enough bowl eligible teams fill their three spots and TCU gets a bigger payout by going to Houston rather than the Las Vegas Bowl.

And due to this BYU has now accepted an invite to the Las Vegas Bowl.

Now Colorado State is going to the Poinsetta Bowl to meet Navy. The Mountain West's other bid is the Emerald Bowl which I assume will go to Utah.

Well, in CFN's column on what would have likely happened with a four team playoff each year, they did have USC knocking off Miami and OSU to win the national championship that year. Other than that though, I've never heard anyone try to connect that USC team with a championship at all.

They were good, but not that good. Justin Fargas as their starter or 2nd back? I don't think so.

Follow up bowl news:

-Fresno State has accepted the invite to the Liberty Bowl.

-Utah has accepted the invite to the Emerald Bowl.

-Music City Bowl announced they'll take an ACC team to fill the SEC spot, probably Virginia.

-New Mexico accepted a conditional invite to the Forth Worth Bowl, which would be if the Big XII can not fill the spot. Kansas needs to beat Iowa State to fill it.

There goes the Fiesta Bowl for me. Strictly this Poinsetta and Holiday Bowl now.

I could never go. My father hates Penn State and Notre Dame and I hate Notre Dame. Wouldn't be fun for either of us. I could go to the Orange Bowl, but that's too much damn money to fly and stuff.

Posted

I'd like to see Oregon and Oklahoma so I can watch Oklahoma get their asses kicked in person from the Oregon section.

As a Duck fan, this is the game I'm hoping to get if Oregon get's left out of the BCS bowls. Damnit why couldn't OHHHio State just do the fucking job to Michigan like they were supposed to? Also while I don't object to OSU and ND being chosen, I think this backroom dealing to manipulate the bowl matchups is pretty stupid, because the TV networks are involved in it. It would be one thing if the BCS was manipulating the games to give the most appealing football matchups, which is what they should have done last year (so that Auburn could play Utah). But ABC shouldn't be influencing the process for TV ratings.

I imagine the Holiday Bowl would be a great shootout if they get both Oregon and Texas Tech there.

Unless Texas is upset in the Big XII title game and gets knocked out of the BCS, Texas Tech is going to the Cotton Bowl.

On the subject of Oregon I'd feel a little more upset about them most likely not going to the Fiesta Bowl if they had Kellen Clemens. Without him I think Notre Dame and Ohio State are simply better teams.

Want some revenge for the thumping that Oregon got in Norman last year?

You're right Slayer. The finished #5 in 2002. Still damn good. Apparently 3 Big XII teams finished in the Top 10 in 2002. Yeah boy that conference has never been good.

Wow I didn't know some of that about OU. To deny they are a top 5 all time program is ludicrous after checking that out. And yes it is an OU site but it's facts so it's not a bias work.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Continue your discussion on this week of college football.

Nah, you can continue talking about OU.

Can't stop the inevitable.

I might be going to the Arizona/ASU game.

I'm going to OU/OSU. I'm glad it's not one of those god damn 11 am games. Does anyone else have to do that shit? It sucks doesn't it? You can't even tailgate beforehand!

Sure you can. Breakfast. I cooked up 5 pounds of potatoes o'brien, 2 pounds of bacon, and about three dozen eggs last Saturday for the UVA/VT game. It's impossible to fuck up. Do mimosas instead of beer and you can even get women to come.

Also: BIASED FOR MOTHERFUCKS SAKE. ONE IS A NOUN THE OTHER IS AN ADJECTIVE JESUS GOD FUCK

I just want to see one of my better friends fuck up some OU WR's and hopefully lay out Adrian Peterson once. That's all I want.

There will be a riot in the OU section led by Dama that you will need to take care of.
