Guest Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Wrestlers returns seem to have great success when they take place in the hometown, country etc. Well, I don't know, but I think it would be cool if Benoit was there in some capacity. Again, I doubt this will happen, but it would be neat, and there WAS talk of him jumping to the RAW brand anyway......thoughts?
Guest RetroRob215 Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 1. I think that if Benoit was going to return tonight, they would have been promoting it in the hopes of bringing in more viewers. 2. I heard that since SD! has less viewers than Raw, Benoit will be kept there.
Guest Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Benoit's probably going to stay with Smackdown... plus, he's simply not ready yet. It wouldn't surprise me if he made an appearance to hype his eventual return, but it's about a month too soon before he can get in ring action
Guest Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 I think that they will probably start airing the benoit return videos like they did with HHH when he came back. Since it's in Edmonton, it's guaranteed to get a big pop and generate interest in his return.
Guest wolverine Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Benoit is obviously my favorite wrestler, and I'd be very pissed if they put him on Raw, thereby depriving me of seeing Benoit vs. Angle and Benoit vs. Jericho. Actually, if they would just put Austin and Eddie G. on Smackdown, I wouldn't watch Raw period.
Guest dreamer420 Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Raw needs a wrestler like Benoit. I'm praying for a run in during the Austin/Guerrero confrontation.
Guest wolverine Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 "Raw needs a wrestler like Benoit. I'm praying for a run in during the Austin/Guerrero confrontation." Nah, Jericho needs someone to feud with BADLY, and Benoit is the perfect choice. Either him or Rey Misterio Jr.
Guest alfdogg Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Good combinations for Benoit: RAW: Benoit-RVD Benoit-Booker Benoit-Austin Benoit-Eddy Benoit-Flair SD: Benoit-Jericho Benoit-Angle Benoit-Storm Benoit-Edge (as long as it's not a whole feud) If anyone has more, post 'em.
Guest Brian Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 I'm still looking forward to Benoit/HHH if HHH gets back up to speed. Benoit/Regal should either be "fuck this" stiff or so well layed out and on the mat that it would be incredible. If Benoit feuded with Mysterio, Tajiri, Hurricane, or any other cruiserweights it would be incredible and a great rub because what makes Benoit so good is he's willing to sell for those guys too. I'd be looking forawrd to a Benoit/Lesnar match-up because if Benoit wins coming out of it, both guys would probably look real strong. But wait until he's ready to wrestle before a return. Benoit conveys interest, emotion, and all that other crap through his ringwork, not sport entertainment.

Their match at No Mercy 2000 was maybe the best straight-up match Hunter's ever had. But 2002 Regal is a far cry from 1993 Regal. He's pretty slow. b) Those would be good matches, but I hope they don't stick him in the cruiser division. Surely Vince isn't THAT stupid. c) Good point again, but I don't see how they would do this. Right now, they're on different shows, and the main talk has been putting him with AA, which right now would make them both heels.
Guest Posted May 27, 2002 Report Posted May 27, 2002 Hey remember, back in 2000, Benoit and Regal had the match at the Pillman show that basicly got Regal hired. It was a GREAT match, probably thanks to Benoit mostly, but Regal was also very good. He just needs someone that can kind of complement his stiffer style, like Benoit.

I wouldn't even be surprised if we hear a "We want Benoit" chant.
Guest wolverine Posted May 28, 2002 Report Posted May 28, 2002 "Benoit-RVD" It isn't if RVD would do all of his pulled shit. Benoit would be stiff as usual and RVD would look completely weak in comparison. RVD can work stiff if he wanted. Maybe I'd like him if he actually landed his kicks and forearms. You CAN do it without busting people open you know.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted May 28, 2002 Report Posted May 28, 2002 If they're going to put Benoit on Raw then what was the point of even having a draft?
Guest wolverine Posted May 28, 2002 Report Posted May 28, 2002 "If they're going to put Benoit on Raw then what was the point of even having a draft?" I'm sure they're not going to do that. But people like to speculate. It would render the draft useless as you said.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted May 28, 2002 Report Posted May 28, 2002 Well, looks like he did show up. Oh well. There went that.
