Help with windows media player/codec

Lately, when I try to play a video on my WMP, it only plays the sound.  This happened to me once before and a guy I met on Hotline gave me a link to get a codec.  Does anyone here know what type of codec I need and where I can get it?  Thanks

What kind of video is it (what's the extension of the file)? Try getting the DivX codec (www.divx.com), since that's a common one.

It's an AVI.  I'll check out the link.

Thanks.  I don't know what I downloaded, but now everything plays fine.
