Guest Duke_The_Dog Report post Posted November 30, 2005 Second coming of Mr T By SIMON ROTHSTEIN Sun Online HE may not be dripping in chains and jewellery any more but 1980s icon Mr T hopes his return to our screens will be golden. A battle against cancer forced The A Team star to take a break from acting 10 years ago, but now he's healthy and back with a new American reality show, a part in upcoming movie Rocky VI and even his own comic book. Mr T told us: "I call all this stuff my resurrection, my second coming. "There's a new generation out there and they like me and I'm honoured by that and grateful to God. "We are going to start filming Rocky VI soon, with me as Clubber Lang again, and we're also starting work right now on my new show - which is called I Pity The Fool. "Unlike all the other reality programmes, it is going to be about helping people. We're not going to be eating worms or swapping wives. "For example a lady might write to me saying she's having trouble at a car dealership, because she's the only female employee and the men are harassing her. So I'll go in and straighten things out. "I learn about the situation, observe for a couple of days and then call the guys into a meeting and give them the Mr T rap - 'I tell you fools, you don't disrespect no lady. My mum is a lady.' "I don't get physical with anyone but I talk to them man to man and brother to brother." Off-screen, Mr T is lending a helping hand to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The tragedy deeply affected the 53-year-old Christian star, who was so moved by what happened in New Orleans that it convinced him to give up his trademark gold chains. He said: "I watched my people, the black people, screaming, begging and crying just for water. "They didn't want diamond rings or new houses, they just wanted water, and they couldn't get any. "I knew that soon I would be going around visiting these people in homeless shelters and it would be a sin against God and a sin against humanity to go around there wearing a million-dollars worth of gold chains, rings and diamonds. "It would be wrong for me to say 'it's going to be alright buddy' and then go about my business. That would be a lie. "People need to see that Mr T has a heart of gold, not just the gold that drips around my neck. "That's my wardrobe, my uniform, but I will never wear it again." Mr T has always used his high profile to aid others and says his charity work helped him when he went through his own cancer fight. "When I was on the A Team a little kid was dying and he wanted to see me - and that's when my life really changed," he revealed. "Before then everybody watched me on TV and in Rocky III and they loved Mr T, but I didn't know what to say to somebody who was dying. "I knew that I couldn't give this kid the same old speech - 'hey, look buddy, feel that muscle' - as I'd be a liar and a phoney, and that's the one thing I'm not. "His name was Ryan, he had cystic fibrosis and a little oxygen tank strapped to him. "I played with him and I let him play with my jewellery and my hair. He made a phone call from my car and he was really excited. Then it was time to go, because he couldn't be there too long. "Two weeks went by and the paramedics told me he'd passed away and I started crying. "Then they said: 'But Mr T, we've come to tell you that all Ryan talked about was how happy he was to have met you.' "So I got involved in the Make A Wish Foundation and all these little kids, as their last wish, wanted to see me. "Little girls suffering from cancer would see me, with their hair falling out, and I'd lift them. "Now, whenever I'm down, I think about those little kids." Confessing that chills were running through him while talking about the children he met, Mr T added: "In 1995 I was diagnosed with cancer and some magazines said I was dying. "But they did me a favour, because they touched some of my angels. "The kids and the schools I visited when I was well, wrote to me and drew me pictures. "One boy wrote: 'Mr T, remember they said I was going to die. You came to see me Mr T. I survived cancer. So Mr T - don't you be afraid of no little old cancer.' "But that's the way God works. I touched so many people and they came back to help me. "That's what the T stands for. "To the bad guys it's thug or tough, but for the women and children it stands for tender." ----------- Mr. T says a different reason every 2-3 years as to why he gave up the Gold, then he'll have it back weeks later.
