Since this is a video game folder, I felt tlike talking about Catlevania.  I think that part 3 and Symphony of the Night were the best ones out of the series.

Pushing your fetish with the undead aside, I definitely think it's one of the most consistently solid non-Nintendo franchises.  There are only a couple of turds in the lineup, but otherwise, it's always been one of the most addictive series out there.

The first Castlevania is still my favorite, though.  SOTN was great as well.

Symphony of the night (is that the right name) was awesome. The first one for NES was great, even though graphics. lacked.

I have actually hated some of them, the Game Boy ones for some reason.

Symphony of the Night was great is because it brought back memories of the old Castlevania games.  It had the backgrounds of part 1, the story of part 2, and the characters and map of part 3.

"greatest series of all time" may be a bit strong, but it's definitely one of the top contenders.  Ignoring crap like the Gameboy releases and the retarded American version of Dracula X, it's hard to think of any bad games in the series.  Even their "weaker" entries like Bloodlines outshined lots of other games along the same lines.

Does anyone else think that the Castlevania world could easily turn out a really cool fighting game or RPG?

I like 'Simon's Quest' the best out of all of them, if just for the music alone. I'll never forget the theme when it turns into night.

Symphony of the Night was a damn good game, as was the original Castlevania & Castlevania III, but I still think that playing as Simon takes the cake. It seemed more rpg like as opposed to side scrolling.

They need to get the series off of Game Boy! It would be cool to get a PS2 Castlevania game. That would be so much better then on a 4 inch screen with SNES graphics. Does anyone else get a headache if they play a GB for 10 minutes?

Headache?  hell no, I think the GBA owns it all...anyway, why hasn't anyone mentioned Super Castlevania IV?  yeah it was easy but it easily has the second best music of the series next to SOTN.  Dracula's boss music as well as the music of the 3 Gaurdians is beauty!

The music is definitely worth a mention of its own - from the first one to SOTN, the Castlevania series has always had awesome tunez, which is why there are around eight "remix CDs" of Castlevania stuff in Japan, including an absolutely gorgeous symphonic take of stuff.

Anyways.

Past that, I think Castlevania is good as is, as a side-scrolling action/adventure game - I could definitely see it morphing into an RPG if necessary, but I don't know if it would really feel like CV to me unless they did some genre-bending stuff a la the two Mario RPGs.

Maybe an RPG where the battles are side-scrolling action sequences?  Has that ever been done before?

And oh yeah, does anyone else remember the only Castlevania arcade game, Haunted Castle?  It was damn hard, and had more than a little in common with the Ghosts & Goblins series at times.  (I can't find a workable ROM of it for my Mame emu, dammit.)

Speaking of the Music for this AMAZING series...Im sure most of you know this but for those who dont, If you play Sympony of the Night in a CD player, Track #2 ONLY, there's a cool little song from the game!

I never understood the criticism of Dracula X for the SNES.  I never played the original PC Engine Duo version, but I thought the graphics and sound on the SNES were really awesome.  At least, it was better than the Genesis game, Castlevania: Bloodlines.

BTW, I read somewhere that they are remaking the original Dracula X for the PlayStation.  Has anyone else heard about this?  That would be really cool.

I picked up a used copy of Symphony of the Night for $15 today, hopefully it will be as good as everyone says. If not, I can always sell it on eBay for $50. :)

Symphony of the Night is the best in the series, period. They need to do a sequel to it...in 2D. It had a great control system, awesome graphics, awesome sound. Plus it had the cool familiars and stuff, and you could turn into a wolf, bat, mist, etc. That was pretty damn cool. I want another Castlevania game, but only in 2D, no 3D please, Konami.

I haven't played the GBA games yet, as I don't have a GBA! (though I'm planning on buying one after I find a job soon). Are they decent?
