College Football - Bowl & Heisman Babbling

Recommended Posts

If Houston was going to entertain the thoughts of trades, meaning they dont care for Bush (which I know they probably have some kind of interest in), they'd want someone who is a bit better than their incumbent HB starter, Domanick Davis. Or they'd want someone that could fill a need like an OL or something.

I could see a team like Detroit trying to move up to get Leinart or Green Bay trading Ahman Green trying to do it. That's about it.

You give the Texans things they want and you can get that first pick.

Give them a top notch NFL lineman, your first rounder and maybe third round pick and they'll give up the one. Houston doesn't need Bush, they have a back who can be an electric NFL back if he has a line. Hell, he's getting over 100 yards with that shit line.

And I'm sorry, but how is saying Reggie Bush won't be LT or Alexander or Barry Sanders a KNOCK on Reggie Bush? Sanders is in the hall and the other two are on their way. I think Bush would be more than pleased to be mentioned in the same sentence with those guys.

I didn't really spend a lot of time in that post talking about Oklahoma, so I don't see how I made them out to look bad. I just said UCLA creamed them, which they did. You can't say something like "Well if it werent for the turnovers..." because, as I'm sure you know, turnovers are part of the game. Its like saying "If USC hadnt scored those touchdowns, Oregon would have had them." I don't think Rhett Bomar is going to be good enough to win a bowl game this year, hes had all year and he only piled up 9 touch downs. Dennis Dixon has 5 in splitting time over the last three games (he has 6 total, but one was against Montana and it didn't really matter.) Oklahoma has gotten the ball rolling lately, and they looked good against Ok. State, but Oregons offense has been getting into gear with a new QB as well.

Also, as nogoodnick pointed out, Jordan Kent is stupid fast. Faster than anyone Oklahoma has played. This is a guy who has a realistic chance of making an NFL roster, an NBA roster or the Olympics.

Anyway, I think its going to be a good game, but Oregon is angry, and they can pass all day. I still feel like its their game to lose.

PS - U of O is NOT Cal. Oklahoma is NOT Texas Tech.

I think Oregon is going to be "up" for this game so that next year's game in Eugene is the rubber match with Oklahoma, rather than a game the Ducks need to win to avoid getting swept by the Sooners for three straight seasons.

You think OU will beat Oregon next year? I know OU will be a 10 win possible Big XII champion next year but I don't know anything about Oregon next season.

OU WILL win the National Championship. 13-0.

I don't think they have the personnel to be a legitimate NC contender next season. If Bomar continues to improve and they can get a senior season out of Adrian Petersen then they could be a serious threat in two years.

Because even though USC didn't miss a beat with the switch from Palmer to Leinart, they will from Leinart to Booty.

I'm thinking Matt Sanchez will be starting next year. He'll win the job in training camp.

As his name would indicate, he's more obsessed with asses than passes.

Serious answer: His ego doesn't match his talent.

edit: Should be the other way around (talent doesn't match ego)

I agree with that. I honestly though don't see the personnel on this team that we had in 2003. In 2003 if White hadn't gotten injured and Mike Stoops hadn't taken the Arizona job I think they would've easily finished the season with the national title.

But I don't see a lot on this team outside of AD that compares to that team.

Well Stoops was 3-1 in bowls and had a national title in his second season.

Then it all fell apart the last two years.

Two years ago b/c the driving force of his offense should've by all rights been in a wheel chair and the guy that fired his defense up was taking another coaching position.

Mike Stoops didn't coach in the Big XII title game or the first half of the Sugar Bowl and OU got lit up. He got on headset in the second half of the Sugar Bowl and LSU had like one first down.

Then in his second straight bowl loss he basically had a team with no heart going up against a much better team. I mean I still think USC would've won if OU had been playing with heart but it wouldn't have been as bad.

The Sugar Bowl I think could've been a deal where if they played 10 times then OU wins 5 or 6. The Orange Bowl was a deal where if they played 10 times then USC wins 9.

Yes.

Now I know that you're just biased against Mr. Booty.

He needs to transfer. John David Booty sounds better as the starting QB for Alabama. Or Auburn.

Time for useless facts about the bowl games. Some are mildly interesting, most aren't, and some aren't facts at all but I'm Bored.

New Orleans

-First time North Texas is not playing in it.

GMAC

-Former game MVPs: LaDanian Tomlinson, Byron Leftwich (twice), Ben Roethlisberger.

Las Vegas

-Cal sucks, it's a fact.

Poinsettia

-Fourth different bowl game based out of San Diego: Holiday, Harbor Bowl ('47-'49), San Diego Christmas Classic ('21-'22).

Forth Worth

-Houston has lost five straight bowl games (last win 1980 Garden State Bowl, 35-0 vs. Navy).

Hawaii

-First time Hawaii is not playing in it.

Motor City

-Sixth straight year a school from Ohio is in the game.

Champ Sports

-Only been around 15 years but has had five different names (Blockbuster, Carquest, MicronPC, Tangerine) and for two years was a January 1st bowl ('93-'94).

Insight

-Rutgers only other bowl apperance was also against Arizona State (lost 34-18 in the 1978 Garden State Bowl).

MPC Computers

-Actually only the fourth time in the bowl's nine years that the Boise State is in it.

Alamo

-Typically a blow out or super close: Five times decided by 20+ points, four times by three points or less in the games 12 years.

Emerald

-Still a stupid idea to hold a bowl game in the Bay Area which could careless about college sports.

Holiday

-10th time in 11 years that a Top 10 team has played in it.

Music City

-3rd time in four years that Minnesota is in it.

Sun

-Only the Rose Bowl has been around longer (Orange and Sugar started same year in 1935).

Independence

-South Carolina has a three game bowl winning streak after losing their first eight.

Peach

-Miami & LSU are the first Top 10 teams to ever play in it.

Car Care

-Really fucking stupid bowl name.

Liberty

-Tulsa's last bowl win was in the 1991 Freedom Bowl (San Diego State, 28-17).

Houston

-Started with one of the worst (or best?) bowl names ever: galleryfurniture.com Bowl.

Outback

-Florida has lost five of it's last six bowl games.

Cotton

-Once the second biggest bowl game but hasn't had an all Top 10 match-up since 1993.

Gator

-Since 1989 only twice has the game been decided by single digits (1997 & 1999).

Capital One

-Wisconsin's first ever apperance in it.

Fiesta

-Once just a glorified home game for Arizona State (appeared in five of the first seven games) now one of the biggest bowls.

Sugar

-Georgia has won seven of their last eight bowl games; West Virginia has lost 11 of their last 12.

Orange

-Has had a Top 10 team in it 28 straight years; FSU is only the sixth non-Top 10 team to play in it during that time.

Rose

-Fist time the AP's #1 & #2 have played each other in it since 1968.

GMAC

-Former game MVPs: LaDanian Tomlinson, Byron Leftwich (twice), Ben Roethlisberger.

That's a sign that Omar Jacobs may make it big.

Also, it's really stupid how the bowl system completely disregards the midwest. Would it really hurt to put a bowl game in Cleveland or Chicago?

They should have some bowls in bad weather. Like, move the Emerald Bowl to Buffalo. Nothing was cooler than that Independence Bowl played in snow.

That was why I was hoping FSU would play in Boise. Damn VT.

USC/Miami in 10 degree weather, and 10 inches of snow = cash money.
